ADDITIONAL INFO & UPDATES

***7/9/12*** Although I'm waitlisted at 5 schools (each of which I'd attend), I'm preparing to move forward with USD. I need to start planning out my living situation, etc., so I guess this is it for me.

I don't think my work experience helped my application overall. The schools apparently didn't care, opting many times for inexperienced candidates with only slightly higher numbers. I think my GPA was the real nail in the coffin though. Although I've significantly improved my study skills since undergrad (my MA should have demonstrated that), I think the schools cared more about their medians. However, I'm confident that I'll be successful in law school, wherever I end up, because I find the subject matter very, very interesting. My future plans now are to get the highest class rank I can, and, if possible, transfer to a better school. I'll update this if anything changes. I hope this has been helpful to anyone trying to assess their chances. Good luck.

***5/22/12*** Davis just requested a 3rd WL reconfirmation. I have already submitted a LOCI and visited the school. Also, WL at ASU, denied from the WL at UCI (ouch!), and still no word from Pepperdine. I called Pepperdine and everything is fine with my application. They'e just taking their time with it.

***4/10/12*** Waitlisted at Davis. That's something I should be very happy about.

***4/5/12*** Admitted to Cardozo's part time program. I'm not sure I can swing it since the program starts in May (I'll still be teaching). I'm also not sure it's a better option that USD, since I'm planning to practice in CA, not NY. In any case, it's nice to have the option, and it's nice to receive good news for once.

***4/4/12*** Waitlisted at Loyola and denied at U of A. What a terrible season. That's what I get for applying late to a list of longshot schools. I'm not holding my breath for the remaining schools. All I can really do is fight for those waitlist applications. Other that, looks like I'm going to San Diego.

***3/28/12*** Denied from Hastings. I expected it, but it still hurts.

***3/23/12*** Rejected at William & Mary. They just hate me in Virginia. Also rejected at WUSTL, but that almost goes without saying.

***3/1/12*** Waitlisted at Fordham via status checker. Great. At least it's not outright rejection.

***2/29/12*** Accepted at USD via snail mail. Yay! My first acceptance ever!

***2/21/12*** Waitlisted via snail mail at UCI. I am going to fight like hell for this one. Denied at Minnesota. Disappointed but not surprised.

***2/6/12*** Waitlisted at Cardozo. Yay! My first non-rejection of the season.

***1/26/12*** Denied at W&L. This is my surprised face :-I

***1/17/12*** I just finished submitting the last of my apps. I'm happy to say that most of them are about as good as they can be.

Don't kid yourself, law schools are increasingly looking at other stats besides LSAT and GPA (while LSAT still in the running). Your work experience and MA will help your chances tremendously especially if paired with a good PS, I can see you definitely getting into Hastings or Davis, if not both.

Tough luck getting rejected from Cooley. I hope you know now that Cooley won't accept just anybody. There is a reason they rank themselves number 2 overall.

Yea, I pretty much took the lsat cold. I think I am capable of getting a much better score. I'm going to grind it out until June.

Sending some good vibes your way and here's hoping you get some more good options in the weeks ahead. I'm sure they're coming!

That's a great achievement, and a great school. I had the same problem with the early start but awesome that you have another option. Best of luck with the other schools and the waitlists!

i sincerely believe you have strong PS and WE. i doubt the writing is off considering you are an English teacher. MA should have had offset undergrad. i bet late app is the major culprit. sorry. i sincerely hope you get 95% percentile at UCSD then transfer to UCLA! i'll be cheering for ya!
