-decided to include scholarship money, for all of about five minutes. I'm just not comfortable posting dollar amounts. Anyway, feel free to ask if you are interested.

Update: Changed my mind, I'll post the scholarship money

2-19-06: Time to withdraw from some of these schools.

2-21-06: Not looking forward to the mail today...hope I can get through today without a thin envelope from Vanderbilt. Update: no mail from Vanderbilt :-)

2-22-06: Empty mailbox...lots of activity on LSN. I feel left out.

2-24-06: Acceptance from St. Louis includes a generous scholarship award that I will fully consider before making a final decision. Nothing yet from California other than a complete notification from one of the three schools where I applied.

2-26-06: Scholarship offer from Washington& Lee arrived yesterday. I still have eight schools to hear from and I am already beginning to lose sleep considering the excellent options I already have.

2-27-06: Wisconsin!! I was worried about this one because of a mistake I made on the application. Somehow, information I entered on the personal information sheet was not saved and I had to send in a corrected form. I share the school's values and I think this school could be a good fit for me. We'll see...

3-01-06: No mail for the last couple of days. I am going to Indiana for the open house at IU-B on Friday, so this is my last day recieving mail until early next week.

3-05-06: Returned from trip to IU-B and Indianapolis. Feel free to ask about my visit if you are interested in IU.

3-07-06: Silence from the Golden State...not sure what to make of it. I am going to schedule visits to Minnesota and Washington & Lee. As of now, I will try to get to Minnesota ASAP while it is still cold and I'll visit W&L during their admitted students weekend.

Update: USD acceptance via e-mail. How is that for timing? I visited USD in early December. I can't think of a better setting to study law. Despite this, I am still planning to visit the cold white north.

3-10-06: Three weeks until I have to accept or decline scholarship offers and I haven't heard from seven schools.

3-12-06: Had I known that Christopher Edley is the Dean at Boalt Hall, I would have signed up and paid for my ding. Crap! Anyway, I decided in 1995 that my first UC degree would be my last...probably wise to stick to that decision in the long run since CA has, of late, done a remarkably poor job of supporting UC's.

3-13-06: Scholarship info from USD arrived today. I had to read the letter four times before I could believe what I was reading. Wow!! I had hopes that I would be admitted, but I am amazed by this grant.

Faculty Directory & Research Activities publication arrived from the University of Minnesota. UMinn's mailings have been frequent and substantial in the information they provide. Very impressive overall...I am looking forward to my visit.

3-15-06: Called four schools today. None of the four have reached a decision. Fine. I don't mind if my name is still be kicked around the these adcomms every week. Maybe, in the absence of a consensus, they will unite in being sick of me and let me in. :-)

3-16-06: Recieved final determination from Fordham; no scholarships or need based grants. Decided to withdraw. Good luck to all Fordham applicants.

3-17-06: Signed up for March 25 open house at Washington & Lee. Anyone else going?

3-22-06: Fifteen days or so since my last decision. Seven pending applications this late in the cycle completely sucks. With the exception of two pending apps everything was submitted in December. I will continue to hope for the best and prepare to choose between my existing offers.

03-27-06: Priority waitlisted at Illinois. I'll make a decision regarding the waitlist sometime in the next day or two.

03-28-06: Time to withdraw from more of these schools. Withdrawal letters will be sent by the end of the week.

04-03-06: Another waitlist. No surprises here. Vandy was realistically my top choice, but I am not shocked by this outcome.

04-11-06: Ding Ding Ding!

04-14-06: My aversion to debt grows with each passing day. I will bring out the "A" and call it a day within the next 23 hours.

Time to withdraw from a few more schools.

4-16-06: This decision process is very complicated. The "A" will appear shortly.

4-27-06: Columbia required three Dean's Certifications (2 UG and 1 grad). As of last Friday, they are still missing one. Is there another school anywhere in the country that requires more than a Dean's Cert from from the school granting the undergraduate degree?

I accepted the scholarship offer from Indiana. Apparently they don't offer many full-tuition scholarships and I am thankful to have been offered one. The decision process was difficult and I am glad to be through it.

I owe utahman a beer. Any future classmates care to join us?

Ture Story
Friday, October 21 2005 at 08:00 PM

I had a nightmare that my identity was stolen and that I couldn't secure private loans for law school. According, I applied to a school where I knew I could go tuition free. Of course, soon after I applied, another school offered full-tuition for 3 years. So it goes...

Thanks

Thanks for the congrats and encouragement. Score on University of Minnesota! Where's your top choice? What do you think you'll prioritize in your decision.

Re: Congratulations

Thanks DougLLewellyn, It appears you're doing well also. I'm sure there are more on the way. So sit back and get ready.

Trolls
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

Yea, I believe I'm being targeted by trolls wanting to assign negative attributes to Bush supporters. It's a shame, because this site is such a great tool if people don't abuse it. What's even more of a shame is that morons like that might actually be in law school with us one day :/ Anyway, thanks for the congrats! I'm wondering if I should have tried a few more reach schools, but I wasn't very optimistic at the time with my abysmal LSAT score. And congrats on your own accomplishments!!! I have no doubts that you'll have many more acceptances.

Thanks
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

so much!! I really appreciate the kind words, this sight really eptomizes the good qualities in future law students!! ;0) I am still trusting in God and the bigger picture at this point. It is all really out of my control and so I find peace in that, until the mailman comes, haha You have some great acceptances on your list thus far and I can see many more to come. Congrats and Good Luck on the rest. I too, am rooting for YOU!!

wapner's your boy
Sunday, December 04 2005 at 07:00 PM

thanks for the holler. yeah, i'm not stressing about harvard and stanford, if anything it would be icing on the cake. as for nyu and columbia, i've had a few friends who've had miserable experiences at columbia, say that there's a prevailing aura of hostility there that i'm not so much into. and i've gotten really good endorsements of nyu, so i'm leaning downtown. good luck with the rest, and maybe i'll see you in MPLS. (i'm from there, it's a nice place to live, and the school's goooooood).

congrats!
Saturday, February 04 2006 at 07:00 PM

on ford-ham. a car and meat...what more could a student want? :) hehe congrats man. good luck with the rest of the apps.

Thanks. I really want to go back to davis, miss the cow town. Goodluck with yours too. where is your first choice?

I figured out how to use this title thin
Sunday, February 19 2006 at 07:00 PM

ya, Davis is my top choice, I even put that in my personal statement, not sure if it's a right move. oh well. Good luck with columbia and vandy, I wish i have the number to apply to those schools.

Thanks
Sunday, February 19 2006 at 07:00 PM

Thanks, i'll be rooting for you for columbia and vandy! =)

congrats
Sunday, February 19 2006 at 07:00 PM

from the idiot who got rejected at mich. st., but in a bloomington. if you get into columbia, you have to go. i will be trying to transfer there after year 1, when my terrible undergrad grades are history, and if you go to bloomington i will buy you a beer. good luck.

congrats!
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

on st lou. you got some choices ahead of you. if you end up in the mid-west i'd like to set up a meeting for all the lsn urm mid-west acceptees. i think it would be a great networking opp. i plan to start a large minority firm someday. you are always welcome to join up. take care man and good luck on wisc and nd.

hiya
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

Sorry for the misunderstanding...I started volunteering after I got injured. I fixed my info so it is more clear now. Good luck on the rest of your cycle you have gotten into some really great schools already!

congrats!
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

on wisconsin. your a cheeze head! you gotta say hello to brett 'farvera' for me. :-) check out my additional info. i'm thinkin chicago/ny/philly/dc sometime in august. if this works out bring some business cards. did you check out that firm in minn? kind of cool, right?

congrats
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

on Wisonsin!! That school rocks!! I e-mailed you back as well!!

good luck
Sunday, November 13 2005 at 07:00 PM

With that LSAT score, I\\\'m pretty shocked at the Notre Dame waitlist. What were your grades like? I\\\'m fairly certain you\\\'ll get off of the ND waitlist if you had a 3.0 or above. Deffinitly have some good options. Planning to visit Washington & Lee?

yeah
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

i did say that. i really thought i had no shot at notre dame. i am a little bit amazed that i get the waitlist. you just know i'll be sending off a ton of stuff. :-) dude, you are doing it up big-time. i can only guess about the hidden apps.

You must read minds!
Monday, December 19 2005 at 07:00 PM

Thank you!! cause that is what I needed and you totally made my day with that. I belive I have lurked on your page via partyguy and angelasassy :0) I am pulling for you too, I can pretty much guess 5 of your 7 hidden apps ( they must be the most important which I can relate to) I hope we end up at one of them together; not just for the schools, but you seem to be a great guy!! I will be watching you too now...I can't wait to hear which apps are hidden. Please email me when you get in to Stanford! :0) much cali love...

hehe
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

thanks, how was your trip to Indiana?? Was it nice??

thanks
Sunday, December 04 2005 at 07:00 PM

about the NW scholarship, it's a big deal of stress off my back. so yeah, it just vaulted to number one on my list. how about you? what are you favoring right now? i'm sure you still have some heavies to wait on. good luck with them, and think hard about MN, i love that place!

congrats
Thursday, January 05 2006 at 07:00 PM

Congrats to you too. It looks like you have quite a decision to make yourself. Scholarship offers do come into play to make things interesting, but if I fall in love with any one institution I'll go regardless of initial scholarship offers. There's always negotiation. What's your first choice?

re:
Sunday, November 13 2005 at 07:00 PM

Looks like you've got a clean sweap going! Congratulations. Deffinitly drop me a line... I don't know how good my advice is... but I'll tell you whatever I know. Good luck.

Indiana
Thursday, December 22 2005 at 07:00 PM

I'd love to hear what you thought of IU!

Thanks
Monday, August 15 2005 at 08:00 PM

for the kind words! I don't visit San Pedro much, but a close friend of mine shares keyboard players with mister Watt. The music world is really small. Best of luck to you my friend!

hey you
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

are you doing a me??? haha, I haven't gotten your e-mail as yet!!! ;0)

thanx man
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

i have tried not to let it get to me. they were the first rejection of my life. i am going crazy waiting on my top choices. i have tried to go about my day as if i'm going to toledo, but that does not help. having all these pendings is getting to me. once i hear from a few schools i probably relax. it would just be so nice to be in your position. of these accepts, which is your top choice? indiana? i know that $$$$ is something else. my aunt just told me that i have a family conection to one of the deans of a top uc law school. now she tells me. :-)

hey,
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

i forgot to ask. some of those 7 hidden are top 14, right? with the results you have hear i'm really curious as to your chances at the upper echelon. take care and good luck on the hidden 7.

sorry
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

UC's
Monday, December 19 2005 at 07:00 PM

Soooooooo true. I am really scared for the UC system as it seems to be in major decline!! As an alum I do think that an education other then UC is important--I know people who have gone to Cal for ug and grad!! I am so very interested in where you end up!

Thanks
Sunday, November 27 2005 at 07:00 PM

...for the kind words, and allow me to be one of many to congratulate you on some awesome acceptances! We both have some pretty tough choices to make, but I'm pretty thankful that I have great options. San Diego is pretty high on my list, so perhaps I'll see you there in the fall...I received scholarship info a week after the acceptance arrived, I wasn't really expecting it. I'm sure you'll hear of an offer soon. Are you going to follow through with the ND waitlist? I haven't decided yet... Good luck with the rest of your apps!

Thanks
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

and congrats on your nice $$ from USD. IUB sounds gorgeous, I bet that trip made them go up for you. I bet you would be top 10% at the school as well!!

hey,
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

it's deleted. you know my great uncle graduated from penn and he became a judge. his daughter wanted to do everything on her own and decided to go to widener. she was accepted into temple and other schools but.... i know she now regrets many decisions. she turned down firm jobs, she turned down a party nomination for a judgeship. look, the purpose of aa is so that the next generation won't have to struggle as hard to make it. i believe that it is disrespectful to our ancestors and all they did to make our paths. hell, they didn't just make them, they paved em. stay on the yellow brick road, man. stay on the yellow brick road. good luck this cycle. i hope you get the ONE you want. i truly hope it's the one that was layed and paved before you.

re: your question
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

where do you want to practice? the only thing that worries me is that you have not felt compelled to withraw from usd yet. if you crave the sun, you crave the sun. know what i mean? now w&l might be your best balance of sun and rank from this list. then again 81k is 81k. i say visit the three, then throw caution to the wind and choose the one that feels right. you probably can't go wrong.

thanks
Friday, October 28 2005 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the message. I'm not dying to leave the NW, infact I like it a lot up here. I love the mountains and the outdoors so I'm strongly considering CU. Congrats on getting into some great schools.

IU
Thursday, December 22 2005 at 07:00 PM

I did get the review and I appreciate it sooo much! I don't think I will accept IU's offer, but we'll see. I'm all about making up my mind at the last minute.

When
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

I called I spoke to anyone. Everyone was nice to me apart from FSU, she was like, didn't you just call the other day. I have not been impressed with their admissions process. Which school has the high gpa requirement? I guess I should find that out from UIUC.

GL
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

with UIUC!! I hope you get in with big $$$, I am sure you will. And I hope Minn lowers that req, that is too stressful to try and keep!!

Thanks
Thursday, December 08 2005 at 07:00 PM

I'm originally from New York but went down to NC after UG. I fell in love with Chapel Hill, the university and the people. Can't imagine going anywhere else :) You've got some great choices ahead of you--i have a colleague that graduated from UMinn Law and only has great things to say about them, particularly if you're going the public interest route. Either way they have great clinical experience. Myron Orfield who runs the Institute for Race and Poverty there is a pretty awesome professor as well (i've had the pleasure of meeting him). If you can withstand the cold, you should choose there--from the looks of your choices (predominantly in the MidWest and North East?), looks like you can :)

Truly
Monday, December 19 2005 at 07:00 PM

a great week!! I am really happy about that 25k at Santa Clara...their IP program is really good. So we're still waiting on those Cali schoools huh? Here's to good next week being just as good as this one!

Where are my manners?
Monday, December 19 2005 at 07:00 PM

Thank you for the congrats!!! Bummer with the Fordham$$ too..but I am sure you are not tripping!! :)

GMU
Monday, December 19 2005 at 07:00 PM

to put it simply:fee waiver. I'll be withdrawing on monday bc they haven't offered me any $$$ and that would be a necc. thing for me to even consider them and it still would have to be a darn good offer. ( I'm talking 10k extra to pay my rent and gas money to d.c ) I am surprised that yopu haven't gotten offered any $$$ by wisc. like really really surprised!!

IU-B
Sunday, February 19 2006 at 07:00 PM

Doug, will you hit me up with your impressions of IU-B. I am really considering going there.

fake numbers
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

people who know me have been told my numbers. I put fake numbers on my profile because one guy on LSD has been stalking me and harrassing me constantly. Thank God he will be going to Arkansas or Alabama and will be far away from me.

eek!
Monday, December 19 2005 at 07:00 PM

I know, so late in the cycle--why must we wait so?!?!? I am going mad. UCLA and USC have got me going mad!!! Doesn't help that a friend just got in to UCLA this morning! ahh well whatcha gonna do?

UDub
Friday, October 28 2005 at 08:00 PM

Hey-thanks for the message. I am leaning toward going to UW. I just got waitlisted for UVA today though. I'm shocked--I feel like this is all a dream. Good luck to you--you've done well. Have you committed to a school yet?

Illinois
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

that is so weird that you are on the WL. Maybe they think you are going to T14 and can't be bothered with them!! I hope you get in though!! Good Luck!! (These results are so arbitrary)

IU Review
Thursday, January 05 2006 at 07:00 PM

Please send me your review of IU. I'm hoping to get an acceptance from them, but since I live in Utah I won't be able to visit their campus. Thanks!

hey man,
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

at this point, it's down to toledo and lewis and clark. i was definitely going to l&c until i got a full ride to toledo! it's so cheap there that i can live like a king. + i have heard so many good things about the toledo faculty. it sounds like a solid education. with their move into the 2nd tier, how can i (broke brother that i am) pass on that? i'm still going to hold out for notre dame, uiuc, loyola, kent, and depaul-but i had better get a nice package from kent and depaul to rationalize turning that offer down. what do you think? tough huh? i think i would like to work in chicago and toledo would allow me to get an llm at john marshall/depaul in a few years after i've saved some money. plus i can still apply at the minority job fairs. also, toledo put me in some transition program where i will only take 3 classes the first semester and make up the two missing classes over the summer. this will allow me to really get off to a good start without worrying about money for the first time in my academic life.

Love?
Monday, December 19 2005 at 07:00 PM

Can't we get any love from these Cali schools? I mean c'mon! We're in-state! If only the UC system had UT's approach to admissions!!! How was your open house?

IU-B
Wednesday, March 08 2006 at 07:00 PM

congrats on the acceptances. can you also send me the review for IUB? thanks a lot.

Good name
Friday, December 16 2005 at 07:00 PM

I love your LSN nickname. You've had an awesome cycle, good luck on your decision.

So...
Thursday, December 22 2005 at 07:00 PM

Leaning towards any particular school yet?

Well...
Thursday, December 22 2005 at 07:00 PM

I haven't withdrawn from Indiana yet. I am still slighty considering it...just because it's ranked so much higher than Marquette which is my other favorite that I have already been accepted to. I have until April 15th to decide. At this point I'd probably say no, I won't go to IU but I am not 100% positive yet. I really am crossing my fingers for Georgetown. Columbia would rock too. I am SO running out of patience. But yeah, I'm glad that I have a lot of wonderful opportunities ahead of me. I hope I just choose the right one!

Heya! I'm deciding between some of the same schools. it'll prolly be W&L if my man can stand the lil mountain town, if not then fordham. or maybe wisconsin... ahhhh anyway, were you at 3/25 in lexington? I thought it was great fun. Any thoughts?

Heya. Maybe our paths did cross on 3/25, I don't remember. Did you go to the party on Saturday night? I ditched a bit early so failed to fully socialize, but I was on the porch for a while early on. As for Fordham, I applied for the day program but was waitlisted, and then offered a spot in the PT night program. If I chose to go there, I won't be working, and I'd go full time as of 2nd year. I waffle daily between W&L and Fordham, and still am considering Madison also. PLUS I have so many waitlist spots that maybe something else will come into play also. I'm taking my family to visit W&L in early May, so I'm hoping that the town will fully charm my better half and he'll see reason. But if he feels he would be uncomfortable there I wont force him to live there for 3 years, and will prolly go w/ Fordham. I really think W&L is something special - the group was awesome, the town unbelievably charming. I don't know much about IU, so sorry I can't offer much advice on comparing the two schools. BTW, have you approached W&L about offering more money? They may be able to pull some more together for you, and they're SO nice about everything. Just ask nicely, they might be able to help.

so am i gonna

I amsad tho that we will not be classmates...I guess this is the result of forming friendships via national "online communities" I'll catch you at the NBLSA conference! And perhaps if you ever come back to cali :-)

Thanks for the comments on my page. I'm really glad that I could be of some help. I hoped that someone was reading those reviews ;-) What schools are you down to now? Leaning towards any schools in particular? Is it down to Wash lee and IU? Are you still considering Minn? I really liked UC Davis when I visited, but I am a bit concerned about being locked into CA. Do you think that would be the case? Is there a reason you didn't apply to Davis for law? Did you enjoy your UG experience there? Thanks for any info you could provide!

Thanks for your thoughts. Deciding is really tough! I know it. Here's hoping that that the lil ol town of Lexington charms the socks off my man. I hope they do right by you in terms of $$. They should have some floating around after this week's withdrawals and acceptances come through. Anyway, best of luck wherever you end up going, I'm sure you'll be a superstar.

Brought out the A. I turned down HU but it was sooooo hard, you knowb I love that school. So if USC comes a knockin'? If they come a knockin' for both of us I will go !!! :-) I think it's a solid program with a lot of great connections but do those connections transfer to every arena of law? not so sure...

Congrats
