Extra Curricular Information

I have some great work experience working for Home Depot Corporate. I also currently hold the position of Controller with an internet marketing and website development company. I am a mother of one, and expecting a second in the Spring of 2013. Will have just enough time to get over the pregnancy before I start law school this Fall. I applied to some reaches, but also applied to a couple I knew I could get into. I wish everyone the best of luck with their cycle.

Additional info & updates

11-15-2012 - Got accepted to the University of Tulsa today, via status checker. Nice to go ahead and get one out of the way. Not in my Top 5, but always great to start off on a positive note.

12-14-2012 - Got accepted to Charleston today, via phone call. Really exciting because my husband's and my dream is to live in Charleston, so this could be a great step in that direction with the tight network for Charleston Law in that town. Still crossing my fingers for Georgia though, and Early Decision results should be out Monday. Have a great weekend everyone.

12-17-2012 - Have been "held" over for regular admission at Georgia. Stinks to not really get a decision during the Early Decision period from my #1, but hey, atleast I wasn't waitlisted or rejected. Contemplating re-taking the LSAT now that they will still accept a new score and since I was practice testing around 163-165.

1-8-2013 - Rejected from Georgia via Status Checker. Contacted the Dean about the decisions, especially since I was held over for regular admission and had already signed up and paid for the LSAT on February 9th, and they said if I score better than the 155 I currently have they will re-open my application. Georgia, my home state school left a sour taste in my mouth with the way they handle the application process so far, so even if I score higher on the LSAT and I'm accepted I highly doubt I will give it even the slightest thought in going.

2-15-2013 - Visited Charleston School of Law and got a $25,000 a year scholarship, contingent on a 2.75 GPA.

3-7-2013 - Accepted into the University of South Carolina. Very nice to get another acceptance. Had a few friends that went there and have done tremendous for themselves.

3-7-2013 - Sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for my LSAT score to be released from my re-take in February. Made the exact same score as before.

3-8-2013 - Accepted into South Carolina! Status checker said letter had been mailed two days before, but then I received an e-mail for accepted students before receiving the letter.

3-11-2013 - Finally received my letter from South Carolina, and it says scholarship information should be received in the next week or so.

3-12-2013 - Submitted my application to Tulane University. A little bit of a stretch, like some of my others, but you just never know. Also set up a meeting with the Dean of Admissions at Alabama to talk about possible admission and how badly I want to study at Alabama.

3-18-2013 - Received scholarship information today from South Carolina. They are offering me a scholarship of no less than $20,000 a year. Numbers aren't 100% confirmed until the school decides on tuition amounts, but it will be no less than $20,000 a year, with no stipulations on class ranking or GPA. Not bad.

3-20-2013 - Rejected from SMU today. Very weird considering I got an e-mail saying I was Waitlisted and then got another e-mail 5 minutes later saying I was rejected. A little upset simply due to being rejected, but it would have taken a big scholarship (not likely to happen)to get me out to Texas away from Alabama and Georgia where the family is.

Good luck with everything girl! Charleston is my dream as well :). I am getting married on Halloween down there and I hope I will be attending Charleston School of Law by then! How did you like it when you visited? I've been to Charleston a bunch of times and right by the school but never actually inside.

Thanks so much. My husband and I got married in Charleston back in 2010, so I know you're going to have a beautiful wedding. There is a lot to be desired compared to more traditional and older schools, but they are getting there it seems. A friend that went to South Carolina for law school told me Charleston is charging very hard and making a great name for theirselves in the market. He was telling me that class ranking and GPA are what matters these days, not the school as much in a state like South Carolina, so it made me feel better knowing that. Best of luck on your decision coming soon and congratulations on the upcoming nuptials.

I figured as much...but I'm glad that your friend said that are making a name for themselves. A lot of people give them a bad rap but I know most it comes with the territory of being a new school. Where do you think you're going to end up?!

A lot of people just run their mouths about things they particularly don't know anything about, especially with law schools. I have done so much research that I have come across so many egotistical opinions it's really not worth reading anymore. A good law student can be produced at any school. All of the books are the same and it's the same information. It's the student that makes the difference. Yes, Harvard is nice, but you can't tell me that Georgia, Alabama, Emory, and even Charleston haven't produced excellent students as well. I plan on attending Alabama if I am accepted. I have already sent in a seat deposit at Charleston so my scholarship is held, atleast until my decision from Alabama in May. What about you?

I TOTALLY agree with you. I've read so much crap from (most likely) disgruntled people. I have no idea where I'm going yet...I've only gotten two acceptances so far and am waiting on the rest of my schools. Charlotte's seat deposit passed Monday, but I think I'm going to put a deposit down on Barry which is due Friday. I really want to go to Charleston though!
