Extra Curricular Information

I graduated in 2007 and have been a social worker at an elder service organization. I'm also the union steward, and I'm on the chapter board for the union. That's part of what got me interested in law.

A few leadership positions in school, but nothing crazy. I was really into languages. The LSAC GPA boost is from summer language classes I took at a LAC.

I got 2 LOR's from professors and one from a boss, and I sent a different set to different schools depending on preferences expressed in their application instructions.

LSAT:
June 2009: Cancel
September 2009: 176

Additional info & updates

11/17: JR1

11/23: In at Harvard!!!

12/09: In at Berkeley via email!

12/07: Decision Rendered at Georgetown, but I never got the envelope for some reason. But I did get an email on 12/22 saying I was admitted.

1/22: In at Penn via phone call! I thought I was possibly in YP territory there, so I wrote them a pretty risky optional essay. I don't know if they liked the essay or just the fact that I wrote one of the optional ones. Or maybe they're not doing YP this year.

1/25: In at NYU via mail! The letter is dated 1/19.

2/02: Email from Columbia that reads, "We congratulate you once more on your acceptance to Columbia Law School..." I never received an acceptance packet. This is the second time this has happened. It's starting to seem as though my mail carrier has a grudge against me.

2/04: Tracked down the letter from Columbia. No scholarship, so I will be withdrawing shortly, as I would definitely rather go to Harvard.

Also 2/04: Invitation to apply to Toll Public Interest Scholarship (at Penn) via email. Excellent.

2/12: In at Northwestern via email.

2/26: Offer to interview for Root-Tilden-Kern Scholarship (RTK) at NYU! (Phone call)

3/10: Waitlisted at Chicago via email. It's my own fault; they invited me to apply for a scholarship, and I never got around to it. Will be withdrawing shortly.

Waitlisted at UVA via email as well. Withdrew.

As of 3/11, I have officially withdrawn from UVA, Chicago, Georgetown and Columbia.

3/23: No from Toll Scholars Program. Withdrew from Penn.

3/27: RTK interview. Very cool experience. I got to chat with a panel of accomplished lawyers (including a COA judge) and get advice on law school and my career. Oh yeah, and they put me up in a hotel in Times Square. Needless to say, I'm glad I came, even if I don't get it.

3/31: Rejection from RTK via phone. In the same phone call, I was offered a $35,000 dean's scholarship. (This would be reduced 3L if I don't do PI, as are most NYU scholarships.) It's a pretty nice consolation prize, and I have until 5/1 to decide.

Withdrew from Northwestern. I never completed the financial aid application, so I don't know if I could have gotten a scholarship.

4/08: Received financial aid package from Boalt. All loans. Berkeley was my dream school back when I first started entertaining the thought of law school, so it really pains me, but I just can't justify the enormous out-of-state tuition. Withdrew from Berkeley.

4/12: Rejected from Stanford.

It's down to NYU with $$ v. Harvard.

4/27: I have deposited at Harvard and withdrawn from NYU. I'm psyched for next year!
