Additional info & updates

To the viewers of this page: I hope this information helps you on your admissions cycle.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Update: October 24th. Letter of Continued Interest sent to Tulsa. If requested, I will post a copy of the letter on here as a learning example of what to possibly do and what possibly not to do
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update: November 12th. I've been waitlisted in my first two decisions. And my thoughts on what it is like being waitlisted, twice: it is the limbo of the admissions process where one is stuck in a conga line without getting any closer to the bar (pun intended).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAJOR UPDATE: November 25th: I wanted to try something extremely different compared to what other applicants in this years admissions pool are willing to do by standing out a little bit more than the rest. How you may ask? I sent a ten page (8.5 x 11) booklet that highlights who I am (more than my resume and personal statement could have ever done for me) to the at least some of the schools I applied to and I will post which schools I sent them to as soon as I receive some decision from them. Each booklet has a front and back cover (pg 1 and 10), quick facts (pg 2), diversity (pg 3), scholarship (pg. 4-7), family (pg 8), and personality (pg 9) and the colors of the booklet were the colors of the respective schools I sent the booklet(s) to. If requested, I will post the text of the booklet on here.
Schools:
1: LSU: In response to being wait-listed; sent December 5th.
2: UGA: Delivered in person by one of my best friends approximately three weeks before getting rejected; though I think it was my numbers that got me rejected and not necessarily the booklet, which could have possibly been a contributing factor)
3: Oregon: sent before any decision and sent in December.
4: Utah: sent before any decision and sent in December.
5: Oklahoma: sent in response to being waitlisted which was also complemented with a letter of continued interest; sent in December.
6: SMU: In response to getting deferred on the 28th of January, which was also complemented with a letter of continued interest; sent on the 4th of February.
7: Tennessee: In response to being waitlisted; sent on friday march 8th.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
November 29th: Waitlisted by LSU via e-mail.
Letter of continued interest received by Oklahoma.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Minor update December 19th:
In review at UALR, Tenn, Utah, and Memphis.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Minor update: January 16th:
Checked all of my apps and I have yet to hear anything back
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
January 21st: First Acceptance!!! Whoop Whoop. That's All For Today.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
January 28th: Second Acceptance!!!! Lets keep the acceptances coming. I was also deferred by SMU today and given my numbers, it was a major surprise for me--I still have a fighting chance there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
February 4th: Sent SMU my personal pamphlet and letter of continued interest.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
February 13/17/20/24/27th: Checked all my available applications on online status checkers, and I have yet to hear back from the rest of the law schools I applied to. I really would love some responses back soon!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Minor Update February 25th: Deferred at UALR
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update February 28th: Waitlisted at Memphis.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update March 4th: Wait-listed at UTK.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update March 6/9th: Checked status at Oregon today: decision expected next week in the mail: Waitlisted.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update March 11th: Found out I was accepted to South Carolina via an e-mail welcoming admitted students to an admitted students day before I officially received a letter in the mail concerning my acceptance.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update March 13th: Sent LOCI to Utah & Emory, and I also responded back to an email confirming my continued interest in attending Oklahoma.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update March 17th: Sent LOCI to Oklahoma
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update March 18th: Checked status at Ole Miss--no change in decision; sent LOCI to LSU; rejected by Utah via mail; received scholarship info from USC stating I will receive in-state tuition for a non-resident that is valued around $20,000 per year
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Update March 28th: I have been withdrawing from many of the schools I've applied to and my withdrawals will continue. I'm hoping by no later than April 28th to know where exactly I'll be in August.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update March 31st: I've sent LOCIs to UTK and SMU. These are the last LOCIs I will send.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update April 8th: Really happy to say that I will be at LSU this fall!

Almost identical stats. I'll keep an eye on your cycle. Best of luck!

Sunday, September 23 2012 at 08:00 PM

How did you hear you were wait listed at tulsa? Good luck.

Sunday, September 23 2012 at 08:00 PM

Thanks. I wish you the best also.

Sunday, October 07 2012 at 08:00 PM

You did a good thing applying early in the cycle. You will probably end up being accepted to Tulsa and, to the extent you ultimately want to go there, that's good. Why not apply to UH, which is ranked almost as high as SMU (both in the 50s), and way higher than STCL, but way cheaper.

Con Law is awesome!

Good luck on your cycle! I'd love to see your LCI, want UVA to know I'm willing to wait. I'll be checking in regularly!

Monday, January 16 2012 at 07:00 PM

WOW! That was some LCI! Thanks for sharing it!

Sunday, June 17 2012 at 08:00 PM

Your LCI to Tulsa is great and 'gratz on the WL at Oklahoma!

Thanks

Thanks! I see you picked up another waitlist. LSU is a very good school and still close to the Texas market. I know the waitlist process is stomach churning but keep your head up and something will break right. Your booklet strategy is very interesting. It will definitely make your application unique. Could be good, could be bad depending on the views of the committees. I see it as a plus though. I think it shows desire and committment and the ability to think outside the box.

LSU should have snatched you up already and accepted you. I worked at the LS at LSU for 2 yrs while in undergrad and, unless you're interested in learning a lot about how code law makes La different than all the rest, Ga or Emory--the way to go, if accepted.

Congrats

Well done on acceptance #1. I am sure there are more coming. I came across this site over the weekend and your profile was one of the first I saw. Very happy for you, and best of luck the rest of the cycle!

Thanks for the encouragement. Congrats on your first acceptance! I wish you the best of luck on the rest of your cycle. Best, LD&D

That is excellent, I grew up probably about 15 minutes south of Gurnee. Now I live west of the city. I hope you have many more acceptances to come!

Congrats!
Sunday, June 17 2012 at 08:00 PM

Hey, congrats on STCL! They place well in Houston and the price is nearly unbeatable.

Sunday, June 17 2012 at 08:00 PM

I'm planning to visit the three Chicago area schools in late February or early March and writing LOCIs to all three following that. I'm likely going to withdraw from the waitlist at Seattle and Seton Hall and possibly Pitt as well. I'm quite happy to attend 'Cuse or Marquette if not accepted to one of the Chicago schools or Houston.

Sunday, June 17 2012 at 08:00 PM

Thanks man, i got in off the wait-list at Kent so it's looking more and more likely that Chicago may be where I go. Any advice for areas of town to look for apartments and what areas to avoid. I've heard Lincoln Park is a nice area.

Sunday, October 07 2012 at 08:00 PM

Continued best of luck at SMU.

Sunday, June 17 2012 at 08:00 PM

Yea this is not fun. April 15th can't get here soon enough! How do you feel about your options if you don't get off one of your waitlists? I'm guessing you'd lean more toward STCL?

Sunday, June 17 2012 at 08:00 PM

Haha yea it certainly seems we're destined for a long summer. I see you picked up another WL at Oregon. I think you and I will both have our choices when all is said and done. It just won't be as soon as we'd like it to be.

Sunday, June 17 2012 at 08:00 PM

I've more or less narrowed my choices down to 4 schools: Chicago-Kent, UIUC, Loyola-Chicago, and UH (in no particular order). I withdrew from all of my other waitlists.

USC
Sunday, June 17 2012 at 08:00 PM

Hey congrats on USC man! A nice bonus with the in-state tuition offer. I've spent a lot of time in South Carolina. It's a beautiful state.

LSU!
Sunday, June 17 2012 at 08:00 PM

Great news with your acceptance to LSU! There's still hope for me at UH. We may yet meet in court in Houston!

Sunday, June 17 2012 at 08:00 PM

Sent my first seat deposit to C-K a week ago, the second is due on June 15th. If I don't get into UH then I'll definitely be attending C-K.

Sunday, October 07 2012 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on LSU. You'll love the atmosphere. I attended undergrad there and worked at the LS, in the gov docs section, for a student job. Best wishes.

Sunday, October 07 2012 at 08:00 PM

I'm leaning toward TSU, provided they accept me. I won't be too sad if they reject me, although my wife won't like it so much. If TSU does reject me, I'll be headed to TexWes, which will not be bad at all.

Sunday, October 07 2012 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, my intent will be to go full time as soon as I can...at whatever LS I end up at.

Sunday, October 07 2012 at 08:00 PM

You too, MIKTEXAN. You have a great story, you worked hard this cycle, and you've got a seat in a great school to show for it.
