Extra Curricular Information

Mediocre softs, decent LORs, good essays. No C&F.

Some good internships but only one was paid. No other full-time WE.

Additional info & updates

01/11--All apps are in. So it begins. I've blanketed T14 except for Yale and Stanford (not with my GPA), Berkeley (not if you made me), and Northwestern (no WE). If I had to guess where I'm headed, I'd probably go with one of CCNV. But I'm just not sure at this point. I'd love to see some money for DCG though.

2/20--In at UVA with $75k! Super excited to get the call from Dugas. This is a great offer and more than I was expecting. I hope this means good things for the rest of the cycle. I'd need some money from CCN or the Harvard long shot to come through to move me.

2/21--Withdrawn from Duke, Cornell and Georgetown. Shame, I particularly liked D and G, but none of those schools are going to push me off UVA at this point.

3/29--Waitlisted at Chicago. Bummer. I guess the cycle won't be all sunshine and rainbows. I'll wait them out for a little while and hopefully there's some movement before summer.

4/3--Waitlisted at Penn. I know that even if they pulled me they couldn't give me an offer competitive with UVA. Withdrawn.

4/12--Waitlisted at Michigan. Withdrawn for the same reason.

4/12--Waitlisted at NYU. That one stings a little; I really thought I was going to get in there. They seem to use their waitlist a lot, though, so who knows?

4/26--Reserve at Columbia. Sucks even though at this point I saw it coming a mile away. That was the only school I would've thought long and hard about pulling me from UVA. Their reserve is a total dead end. Looks like I'm Charlottesville-bound, unless by some miracle Harvard comes through.

4/29--Rejected at Harvard. I knew I would be, so it doesn't really faze me at this point. Still, who doesn't want to go to Harvard? Unless something serious changes, I'll be in Charlottesville come the fall.

5/9--Accepted off the waitlist from NYU! Really glad to have a decision to make. My parents are big on NYC, but with no money it's not going to fly given how much I like UVA. Really nice to have a T6 acceptance under my belt, though. If they can send me money, it's going to make this decision very difficult.

5/16--NYU award came in: $25,000. Given the goose eggs my numbers have gotten off the WL, I'm really glad to have this offer. Thought about it for a little bit, but I'm sticking with UVA. Submitted a request for consideration. If they send a little bit more, I'll be depositing at NYU.

5/20--They won't budge on $25k. I didn't really expect them to, it was more than they often give applicants like me. But it can't beat a half-ride at UVA. Withdrawn.

5/24--Signed my lease and sent my second deposit in to Charlottesville. Assuming that's it, I'm really happy with how my cycle turned out--as it's gone on, I'm fallen more and more in love with UVA and convinced it's the best option for my goals. Unless there is an offer from Columbia or Chicago, I'll be in Charlottesville in the fall.

6/11--Interview request from Columbia! HUGE deal. Looking back on info, it seems about 80% of those who get interviews off the reserve at CLS are accepted. Fingers crossed.

6/13--Just had the interview. Thought it went well. If I do get in, I'll have 48 hours to make a decision.

6/19--Accepted! I'm going to Morninside Heights!

I doubt you will see this, but I wanted to say thanks. No doubt you are doing well this year, and the admissions committee at Columnia must believe it made the right call with you because I was admitted outright with virtually identical numbers. Thanks for blazing the trail!
