Additional info & updates

*Scholarship amounts are for all three years.

12/23/13 - Applications in before Christmas. Now it's time to see how my cycle unfolds. Fingers crossed.

1/10/14 - In at Northeastern with money. I'm glad the first decision was an acceptance. Makes this process a little less stressful.

1/16/14 - Great day today. I was accepted at W&L and Wake Forest. These feel good and I hope this bodes well for the rest of my cycle. Hoping for some scholarship money.

1/17/14 - Accepted at Howard.

1/27/14 - Full tuition scholarship at MSU!

2/5/14 - Rejected admission to NYU. First denial stings only because it was NYU and I would've loved the opportunity to attend.

2/6/14 - Rejected by Columbia and Michigan. Columbia via status checker and Michigan by snail mail. Rough day.

2/10/14 - Voicemail from BU informing me that I've been accepted. Extremely happy about this one. Boston is a great city and I know I'd love spending three years there.

2/15/14 - Receiced my acceptance package from BU and I have to admit I went a little crazy. This has been an amazing cycle and the BU offer and scholarship was the icing on the cake. August can't come soon enough.

2/28/14 - Accepted to Boston College with a $90K scholarship and Maryland with $45K.

3/6/14 - In at Penn State with $90K.

3/24/14 - Accepted at UNC today!

What's your secret for securing such big scholarships? Did you negotiate with any of the schools? Congrats!

No, I did not negotiate with any of the schools I was admitted to. I was just extremely lucky with the amounts I was offered. The only thing I can tell you is that I spent all my free time on my essays and rewrote them constantly. When I was finally confident in what I had, I asked a former professor to critique it. After receiving his feedback I rewrote my personal statement over with a different focus. It was a long and sometimes tedious process, but it made all the difference in my cycle. I also took some risks with my essay, but it was worth it.
