I applied to a bunch of reach schools to test the waters a little bit... I have no delusions about my chances of being accepted though.

sure enough...

After a brutal cycle replete with waitlistings and rejections, there are a few things that stand out that I would have done differently: One, I wouldn't have sent BC a personal statement intended for another school and then tried to make up for it by sending them an identical personal statement with only the name of the school changed. This undoubtedly generated some resentment on the ad-com and I'm lucky to have been waitlisted. Two, I'd assume that any school where my numbers are more than a point or two below the MEDIAN is a reach school. Going in to the application process, I thought that if my GPA/LSAT fell into the middle 50% (or even slight below) at a given school that I would still have a sporting chance of being accepted. Not so. Unless you are the economic adviser of a small country or go to an elite u-grad school, hitting the median at a school is sort of a requirement for being accepted there. Three, I would have not worried so much about the LSAT and personal statement. While immensely important, these two are stressed way too much by pre-law advisers and can drive you crazy. That's all.
