Additional info & updates

11-22-13 Samford informed me I was accepted faster than they could email me an application tracker. 24 hour turnaround on that one. Packet and scholarship info on the way
12-02-13 Mercer emailed me informing me I had been accepted. Another quick turnaround. Scholarship and acceptance information are in the mail.
12-10-13 Mercer offered 18k/year with no strings attached. Found out through a nice email
12-13-13 Stetson acceptance came in through email with 7500k/year scholarship as long as I stay in good academic standing
12-17-13 Accepted at Tulane through email
01-10-14 SMU called and informed me that I was accepted. Told me any scholarship information would be included in the acceptance packet
01-17-14 Visited Mercer and found out they have upped their offer by a few thousand. Came home and found a 45k scholarship from SMU. Was not expecting that. The SMU scholarship certainly throws a monkey wrench in the running gear for my school choices.
01-22-14 FIU status changed to decision made. Called the school and they said they could not reveal decisions over the phone. 30 mins later I got an accepted students forum invite from the admissions coordinator. Guess that tells me the answer to their decision.
01-24-14 Visited Samford for a scholarship interview.
The results of the interviews will be disclosed in Feb. but I was very surprised at how nice Samford was. Faculty and everyone I met seemed to have it together. Samford is definitely on my short list at this point
01-28-14 FIU packet came in today with a 12500/yr scholarship as long as I stay in the top 50% of my class. Definitely makes that school ridiculously cheap. Too bad Miami COL is so high
02-05-14 Samford emailed me informing me I was awarded a 9k/yr as long as I stayed in the top 2/3rds of my class.
02-24-14 Things went quiet for a little while but today I was accepted into LSU and South Car. with LSU giving 20/yr over three years with a 2.75 floor on my GPA to keep the scholarship. South Carolina said any scholarship information will be in the acceptance packet
03-05-14 Sat down today and boiled my list down to to my final choices. Sent out the withdraw emails to the other schools.
03-05-14 After many many many agonizing weeks I was accepted to FSU. They say it takes 90 days to review files and it took every bit of that and some by my count.
03-11-14 FSU it is

I'm a lawyer and law school applicant's father. My son-in-law and his father are graduates of Samford . They're doing exceptionally well. Samford's trial advocacy training is remarkable. Great school, so give it serious consideration.

Yes Samford is very high on my list. I am waiting to see how the financial aid falls into place (not wanting to go too far backwards in debt) but I have been very impressed with Samford and their program. Rankings and pictures really don't do that place justice.

It's okay and no they accepted me first and the scholarship was included in the acceptance packet. Let me know if you have any other questions

Sunday, September 15 2013 at 05:03 PM

Did they tell you in an email that you had a scholarship coming or was that just a "hey we'll send you a packet and it might have a scholarship too" kind of thing?

It came in the admissions packet. They did not call or anything to that effect

FSU

Congrats on FSU! Did it really take them close to 4 months to make a decision? Did they contact you in any way during the process?

Friday, February 22 2013 at 11:24 AM

Congrats on FSU, hope to join you there as well...just hope I don't have to wait as long to find out haha

They did not contact me at all during the process and they said it would take about 90 days to review so if you subtract out all the university holidays between November and now they were about right
