Additional info & updates

4/4/09: withdrew Fordham, University of Virginia, University of Michigan, Duke.

3/31/09: quiet week. "on hold" at Northwestern today. at this point, I am only seriously waiting on 5 decisions: Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Chicago and Columbia.

3/23/09: e-mail from UC Hastings - waitlisted. they have a good sense of humor.

on a different note, Boalt is making me think twice about moving to New York. their package brought back memories of everything that is so great about berkeley. financial aid battles are looming in april.

3/19/09: my worst nightmare... email from Dean Tom, UC Berkeley Boalt Hall... In. Now NYU v. Boalt with all the pros and cons of moving, staying; family, no family; New York, Berkeley; new environment, hit the ground running, etc.

Now is the time to establish concrete criteria for selection.

Harvard or Yale, please save me by admitting me. That's one decision that would be impossible to regret.

3/18/09: email from Fordham. In.

3/17/09: updated transcript mailed to Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Chicago.

3/17/09: email from Columbia requesting updated transcript. emailed back with requested info. another email thanking me for email back. came across as very nice, organized people.

3/14/09: USC package in mail. In. NYU, everything after you is so underwhelming.

3/13/09: putting together chart of 3-year cost of attending schools. NYU a little over $200K, UCLA a little under $100K. Head is spinning with the difference. My boss is pushing me to go to UCLA: "You can't beat the education at that price, and if you're at the top of your class, it doesn't make any difference whatsoever whether you go to UCLA or NYU."

I still am skeptical... Can I pass NYU for UCLA? Maybe the April visit to NYU can give me the right gut feeling.

"Intuition is reason in a hurry."
- Holbrock Jackson, British writer

3/13/09: waitlisted at Michigan. State schools don't like me.

3/11/09: tiny little envelope from Georgetown, but containing good news. hand-written note from Dean referencing personal statement and interview. Tempting...

3/10/09: Waitlisted at UPenn. Must I pursue?

3/4/9: Waitlisted at University of Virginia.

3/3/09: University of Hawaii package. In. Must I let my life go to a completely different direction?

3/2/09: Call from Rob Schwartz, UCLA dean of admissions. In.

2/26/09: NYU admitted students event in the city. Gorgeous house, interesting characters.

2/25/09: Large, beat up pacakage from Vanderbilt. In.

2/20/09: Interview with Georgetown alum in the city. Went lovely, fantastic view, great lunch.

2/10/09: large purple envelope from NYU. In.

1/25/09: Applications sent.
