3/20 - Numbers on Boalt: 10 acceptances, 170 rejections in the last three weeks!! Unlucky...what the hell does that mean for us deferrees...??

3/21 - After spending six, nervous minutes on hold with NYU they tell me that my transcripts are lost...sigh...on the bright(?) side it's only one day til the Boalt deferral notifications start rolling out...

3/22 - More waiting from Boalt apparently...sigh...and waitlisted by American...already in at Fordham, which I prefer, but still a bit of a blow to the ego...not too bothered...guess I should start withdrawing soon...

3/23 - Georgetown online status checker went to decision today...I'd say the suspense is gonna kill me but I'd be willing to bet it's a rejection, so I'm not holding my breath...

3/27 - Called Berkeley and received my ding...not a huge surprise...disappointed all the same...what a way to start my spring break...

04/03 - Sent out an email to all my pending schools updating them on recent grades, employment, etc...Harvard said they wanted it in writing...well!!

HELP!! Any suggestions on where I should send my seat deposit...??? USN&WR puts BU at 22, Fordham at 32, and Davis at 34...Davis is so cheap tho!! And NYC is so cool!! What do I do...?!?

I think it's gotta be Fordham...BU didn't wanna give me any money...UC Davis is just too out in the middle of nowhere...and USD is offering $27,000 a year, but its a bit low ranked, and I had a friend there who hated it...and I'm kinda thinking I wanna change of scene from California...unless UCLA wants to mix it up and throw an acceptance my way...huh...? UCLA...that sound good...? Yeah...?

I went to a CC and transferred to a UC also. Good system. I sympathize with other CC'ers. Good luck with Boalt!

Boalt

I see that you also had today marked on your calendar for when Boalt decisions are coming out...any idea how long it will be till we hear? I've checked my email about 542,000 times today.

Thanks!

Mmm...thank you so much for the info. Although I'm not excited about having to wait another week or two, it's so much better to know that that's what's up! Yea, I am originally from Iowa. I grew up in Waterloo and now I go to Iowa in Iowa City.

Definitely

I would definitely go to Boalt over Iowa, Minnesota, or any other school that might accept me. I absolutely cannot take this waiting!!

rugby

do you play touch rugby as well? My group is actually going to be down in san diego in july and august. Nationals are being held there. thinking you might go?

GW/Fordham
Tuesday, September 27 2005 at 08:00 PM

I'm not feeling pt anymore, so GW doesn't look good. Fordham is perfect but very very expensive. Good luck; if we end up at Fordham it would be good to see another UC grad.

Hey- So sorry about the ding from Boalt. You're so much more of a man than me though- I'm too scared to call, so I'm just waiting for mine to come in the mail! At least you've gotten into some good schools and you're still alive at a lot more. Good luck with the rest of your apps!

hastings
Friday, March 03 2006 at 07:00 PM

i'm waiting to hear about $$ from hastings. i would love to go back to northern california. however, all hastings students have chips on their shoulders about not getting into berkeley and they are competing for the scraps left over from boalt and stanford. i don't want to be one of those people. what was your impression of the campus's location and safety?

my $.02

You should definitely send in the Davis form because there it doesn't require a monetary deposit and you you can check the 2nd box, which lets you off the hook if you later decide not to attend. The other choices will come down to personal taste.

BU Law
Monday, January 02 2006 at 07:00 PM

Hey, I've got the same dilemma: BU or Fordham. I've decided on BU. My three top reasons for picking BU over Fordham: 1) better professors, based on personal observation, current student feedback, and Princeton Review survey; 2) Better national recognition and wider ranging career opportunities (that being said, Fordham seems to be better for NYC big law jobs); 3) BU's campus, building, and student community was superior to Fordham's environment

lies, damned lies...
Monday, January 02 2006 at 07:00 PM

i've heard the Fordham stat also. And, based on searches on martindale.com, I tend to believe it. However, i think you still need to take it with a grain of salt. For example, the National law Journal ranked the top 20 sending schools to Vault's 50 biggest law firms in 2005, i.e. which schools sent the largest percentage of graduates to big law jobs in '05. Fordham wasn't on the list (though BU was, at 14%). So, how can Fordham have more alumni in big law firms than almost every other school but not even be among the twenty most recruited schools last year? I'd like to have the definitive answer to that! I do have a few theories. Point being, don't base your law school decision on only one statistic. Also, about BU's building, see it for yourself before you decide it's hideous. I loved the building. From the outside, it looks pretty phalic and ugly, but from the inside I think it's great: very nice classrooms, best view of Boston and the Charles River anywhere. Best of luck man!

Sun, surf and really cheap tuition! We must be crazy to turn it down, but I know where you're coming from. I think i might head to GMU instead :-/

BU v. Fordham
Saturday, March 18 2006 at 07:00 PM

Hey, Of the two, I think I'm going to end up at BU. I visited both, and they're about comparable facilities-wise (the BU building is a bit ugly, but fordham isnt as technologically advanced). BU just struck me as having a better education and a more intelligent student body. However, Fordham seemed to have more going on outside the classroom with respect to clubs (but I've since been reassured that BU does have a "well-developed" social life as well). A lot of it may depend on where you want to practice, though (thats what I've heard in terms of deciding between the two schools). Since I'm looking at a judicial clerkship, I, sadly, need to pay more attention to rankings... let me know your thoughts on it all. :)

we got waitlisted the same day :-/ did they tell you that you would know the final decision in 2 weeks?

BU v. Davis
Tuesday, February 07 2006 at 07:00 PM

I'm facing a similar dilemma; I'm not sure whether the higher ranking of BU justifies delaying my hope of returning to the West coast. I'm told that the ranking isn't really significant enough to make a difference--any thoughts?

NYU transcripts
Sunday, April 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

What do you mean they lost your transcripts at NYU? Did you go through LSDAS? I'm nervous now because I haven't heard yet and your note about that makes me think there's a problem with my application. I called and all they could tell me was, "You'll get a decision by the end of April." They're klling me here...

Congrats on

Are you planning on withdrawing or have you already? I'm in at USD but waiting on a scholarship so I was just wondering... Congrats on all your acceptances!
