Extra Curricular Information

At Cornell now. Gonna try and make it happen.

June 2011

-6/14/11: In off the WL at Cornell. Curiouser and curiouser.
-----------------------------------------------

May 2011

-5/31/11: Successfully negotiated scholarship increase at WUSTL, and put down my deposit. WUSTL is wonderful and I'm excited to be going there. Planning on applying to the T. F. Eagleton Scholarship for 1Ls.

-After a lot of soul searching, and some open and honest conversations with the great people at VULS, I made the tough decision to withdraw from consideration. This was largely based on long-term practical considerations. The admissions office at Vandy is a class act.

-5/5/11: Received call from VULS to gauge interest. I am thankful for another opportunity to consider.
------------------------------------------------

March-April 2011

-Visited UMN, NDLS, and WUSTL on travel stipends. NDLS and WUSTL made a definite impression. After negotiating for scholarship fell through at NDLS, I settled on WUSTL. WUSTL felt so positive, and a place that I could form myself as an attorney. I'm really to have the chance to go there.

-Decided to ride the waitlists at Cornell and Northwestern. Still on the waitlists at BU and Vandy...need to meditate on those.

-Visited U Mich Ann Arbor, took tour, met with admissions officer, and sat in on a class. It was my first pick for a school academically, and I figured it would help to go get a feel for the place on the off chance I got in off the waitlist last minute.

The trip was more of a fact finding mission than a sales pitch. I loved the school, despite my best efforts to not get more attached. Sent thank you e-mail to admissions admin and hand-written thank you card to admissions officer who spoke with me.

-Sent LOCI e-mail and Optional Hold Essay to NU.
-Sent snail mail LOCI to Vanderbilt.
-Sent snail mail LOCIs to Cornell and U Mich.

Waitlist Management and Decision Making started in March. Follow along above if interested.
--------------------------------------------

-Legal internships, Policy research, XC Runner, Sorority, Campaign Work, LSAT instructor. Nothing too special. Like some 2008 graduates, work history is punctuated with volunteer jobs and unpaid internships. Luckily, they've all been meaningful learning experiences and opportunities to serve!

-I am a re-applicant for the 2010-2011 cycle. Realized I was finally ready to go to law school a little later in the game than I would've liked for the 2009-2010 cycle. Decided to try my hand again this Fall. Reformatted and polished my file. Ready to fly by the seat of my pants...I hope I land on my feet!

-Sent my first round of apps in between October 8 - 12th, and then my second round from the October 17-26th.

-Given my weak splits, I figure the deciding factor will be the quality of the rest of the documents in my file. I feel confident about those. So I'll take a risk on those reach schools.

-Thinking of reach schools I hadn't considered before on the encouragement of an adviser. The T10 and even the T15 require a stretch of my imagination.

-Interviewed at Northwestern and Vanderbilt late Sept./early Oct. Note on Vanderbilt: great school in an excellent city!
