WUSTL sent the 10k scholarship info a little too late.

with the Wash U app. My alma mater and I worked in the law school for 4 yrs. They have a new dean, but the school environment is terrific. Also, Lexington is a great place if you decide on UK. My little sister goes there and loves it.

Couple of reasons...

I'm not applying to WU. First, this is my second round w/ law school apps. I tried applying last year while planning a wedding for January. I got my priorities a little confused ;o), and I didn't take as much care w/ my apps as I should. So I applied late last year and had a terrible (and I mean TERRIBLE) personal statement. I got wl at WU and accepted to Hastings. My husband and I decided SF was too expensive, so he accepted a transfer to Chicago w/ his job, and now I'm trying again w/ some more reasonable schools in the Chicago area. I noticed we've applied to many of the same schools, and we have similar numbers, so it should be interesting to compare our results. Out of curiosity, would you mind posting your app and complete dates? Just wondered what the turnover time has been for some of my schools. Thanks!

Kent over Loyola

Kent seems to have a slighlty better reputation around Chicago. I also live in a Chicago suburb and Kent is located very close to Union Station which would make commuting there easier.

similar numbers
Monday, January 09 2006 at 07:00 PM

I have very similar numbers as you (166, 3.48) and am applying to many of the same schools, i was wondering if you had alot of extra things on your resume or if it was pretty basic.

thanks

thanks, good luck as well, hope you get your top choices

Thanks for posting the numbers. Very helpful, and congrats on the new acceptances. Out of curiosity, how are you gauging Kent's rep (i.e. interviews with Chicago lawyers, etc)? My cousin works for a "prestigous" Chicago firm and he seemed to think Loyola was acceptable if you graduate in the top 5%, but he didn't know much about CK. (FYI, he graduated from WUSTL)

I went to undergrad at UW and had an upward GPA trend, but other than that not really.

Illinois, huh?
Friday, May 13 2005 at 08:00 PM

Hey Badger. Haven't said hello in a while. Congrats on Illinois...are you in state or did you just decide not to wait on Minnesota etc.? Hope you're enjoying having made your decision.

in-state
Friday, May 13 2005 at 08:00 PM

I agree, that would be difficult to pass up. And I am very jealous that you already heard from IL. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for the best, but I'm a little concerned. Then again, it seems 166 was the lucky number this year for IL, and all of us 165ers seem to be in limbo...darn them. Anyway, congrats again on the in-state + scholarship. I'll let you know if I'll be heading down there, too.

Illinois ? again
Friday, May 13 2005 at 08:00 PM

Sorry, I have another question....so, it seems that I (again) was not included in their most recent email wave (yesterday). Argh. I swear if I had ONE POINT higher on my LSAT...anyway...to the point: Did you originally hear from IL via email, or did you only hear from them via snail mail? This just helps me time my email refreshing/sprinting to mailbox trips. ;o) Thanks!

OMG
Friday, May 13 2005 at 08:00 PM

And congrats on WUSTL! As I said before, WUSTL's atmosphere is terrific (what a gorgeous school). I hope you received some $$$ from them. Oh, and the area around WUSTL is fantastic, too. Be sure to check out the Delmar Loop if you haven't already. Let's see...I think it's N of the univ, but you might want to check. Anyway, best of luck on making a tough decision.

And Again...
Friday, May 13 2005 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the IL info. Why do you think you didn't receive the acceptance email? Just curious, since it seems like this has been their preferred means of communication.

MN
Friday, May 13 2005 at 08:00 PM

As I said, I'm crazy ;o) Seriously, I just felt like I should have applied to more "reach" schools (i.e. at least one school in the T20). I'm one of those people who's always second guessing themselves. Anyway, MN is about the only school in the T20 who doesn't seem to have already admitted everyone. I figured what the heck. If it was going to bug me that much, I might as well spend the $77 for piece of mind. Then again, when I get the rejection...*to self* "let it go, let it go." lol I need to get a life. ;o)

peace
Friday, May 13 2005 at 08:00 PM

I meant "peace" of mind. then again, I think a piece of my mind has been missing since I started law school apps....omg "shut up, shut up now" ;o)

U of I
Monday, January 09 2006 at 07:00 PM

Have you been to U of I for any open houses or anything? Although it is one of the better schools I applied to and the first I was accepted to, Im not exactly sold. Spending 3 more years in central IL might make me go crazy. I was just wondering what had you sold and why you choose it over the others. Just trying to figure out my life , you know how that goes.

I concur
Friday, May 13 2005 at 08:00 PM

Yup, you probably should have applied to more T20s as well. But I hear you on the scholarships. It's just nice to be able to say "I COULD have gone to a T20, you know, if I'd REALLY wanted to ;o) ). It's the bragging rights factor. Anyways, let me know what you decide on WUSTL vs. IL. And let me know if you want my opinion ;o)

that was me
Friday, May 13 2005 at 08:00 PM

i wrote so much it logged me out.

you're welcome
Friday, May 13 2005 at 08:00 PM

This is what happens when you're not working and have nothing better to do (besides clean the apt.). Good luck with your decision. Let me know which one you choose.

March 3
Monday, January 09 2006 at 07:00 PM

I agree, in-state tuition is a plus. I will see you at the march 3rd open house so i guess we'll both see what its like. And by the way, march 3rd is their unofficial st.pattys day so if youre staying there over night, its a good time. Lots of green beer.

leave...
Friday, May 13 2005 at 08:00 PM

LSN...leave it now! We need to find something else to do with our time!

re: IL comments
Friday, May 13 2005 at 08:00 PM

First, never said anything was wrong with IL. Just rooting for my a.m. Second, WUSTL, in addition to having its own museums, is also within walking distance of the STL Art Museum, History Museum, Science Museum, and Zoo. It's also sits next to Forest Park, one of the largest urban parks in America (and absolutely gorgeous for roller blading, biking, running, etc.) As for music, it's St. Louis. There's tons of it. Sports: IL wins for college sports, hands down. It's div. 1, WUSTL is division 3. Can't really compare. BUT STL has the Cardinals, Rams, Blues, plus a prof soccer team and a couple of others if you're interested. And if you really need div 1 college action, go watch slu. It's all less than a 2 hr drive away. As for the new dean of the law school....didn't we steal Vandy's??? This is fun ;o) And just for the record, I hope to be offered admission at IL...it is an awesome school. Now I've probably jinxed myself....

might be seeing you at uiuc next year

UIUC
Monday, January 09 2006 at 07:00 PM

I recieved $ from them which would make it only around 5k/yr, pretty cheap for a good school. My sister goes there as an undergrad (although im not so sure thats a plus). I would like to stay in IL although depending on what Marquette offers I would love to live in Milwaukee. Basically though it comes down to being willing to live in the middle of IL again- I currently attend EIU and 4 years later realized I am more of a city person. U of I is a great school though, I have lots of friends that go there and love it, so i guess we\\\'ll see next friday what its like.

They need a 12 step program for people like us...

go to illinois
Sunday, February 19 2006 at 07:00 PM

and tell them to pull me off of their "hold" list, i like drinking champagne, it would be cool to live where it is made.

doh...
Friday, May 13 2005 at 08:00 PM

so WUSTL lost, huh? I can't believe they didn't give you any money, especially considering the amounts they seem to have been giving everyone else with your numbers. Must have run out... Congrats on UIUC!!! Still no word from them on my app, so don't know if I'll see you there or not. Did you already go to the admitted students day?

Thanks
Friday, February 03 2006 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the advice. I know UIUC is the superior school, but I not really sold on living in Urbana for 3 years. It will be a tough decision. Again. thanks for the imput and good luck.

thanks
Friday, May 13 2005 at 08:00 PM

I am definitely disappointed with UIUC's decision to defer me. I'm trying to decide if I should call and ask if they need additional info, email w/ the same message, or just stay quiet a bit longer. Let me know what you think ;o)

Thanks
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

so much. I am most probably headed there. I am quite excited right now!! Do you know anything about the area??
