Additional info & updates

Top 20 Fee Waivers: Columbia, NYU, Michigan (after I already applied), Duke, Northwestern, Cornell, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, Washington in St. Louis.

Note on USC: I actually applied there...long ago...like November or something...with their short application. Full application was sent on date shown above.

I realize that Harvard and StanFUrd (37% and 18% chances respectively according to chiashu.com) are not likely, but eh, I paid $75 for rejection letters to frame (at least I got an email from Harvard, but no love from "the Farm").

I have a stellar rec. from a professor in Japan, and I'm guessing an average one from a prof. in Berkeley.

December LSAT.

USPS: The mail people hate me. My mail (and my roomate's med school mail) is getting lost!

Stanford: I visited on 3/3 and talked to the associate director of admissions. Hopefully that will help me...

----Letters---
UCLA: Postmarked 1/19/2005 (only a 14 day turnaround); I found it on my table on 1/26/2005 (I guess one of my roomies brought it in and left it there...). Large white envelope ($4.55 postage). Also, turns out that I got an email on the 19th as well, but it got filtered out by my server's spam system. $20K/3 years merit scholarship 3/15. Declined offer 4/20.

Boalt (Berkeley): Phone call from Director of Admissions on 2/1/2005 at about 2:45 PM informing me of admission. Email confirming completed status of application arrived the day before. Large white package arrived via Priority Mail on 2/3/2005 (ironically, it would have only taken me 5 minutes to walk to Boalt). Submitted prelim. non-binding SIR on April 13th.

Georgetown: Never received any complete or received notifactions. Large white package postmarked 2/2/2005 arrives in Berkeley 2/4/2005 (priority mail). Received small envelope on Feb 26th that was postmarked January 24th. This was the actual acceptance, and made note of my personal statement and my family members who had attended the law school. Withdrew 4/20.

NYU: Letter dated 2/8/2005. Postmarked 2/10/2005. Large, thin manila envelope. 83 cents postage.

Northwestern: "Hold" email arrives 3/9/2005. Not surprising. I have no significant work experience and I did not interview. The only thing that is surprising about the "hold" is that I was not rejected outright. Currently debating if I should withdraw or continue the process. *I scheduled the "hold" interview for 3/9/2005 at 1:15 PM PST.* Interview goes well...but doesn't happen until 3/10/2005. Who knows.

Stanford: Denied as epected. Decision dated 3/11/2005. Small envelope. Brutal.

Michigan: Email arrives 3/14/2005. It's been a rough week. Deferral, rejection, waitlist.

USC: Package dated 3/22/2005. I found it on 3/28/2005.

Notre Dame: small envelope. Letter dated 3/30. Arrives in Berkeley on 4/1. I don't mean to be cocky, but, wtf?

UVA: ding is presumed. I was unable to log into the Law Forum on the admitted students website and I am at "decision" on the website. So much for that. Update on 4/14. I finally called because my mail is really messed up. I was placed on the priority out-of-state waitlist. More on this later.

UChicago: Letter dated 4/4/05. I called on 4/18/05 because I had not heard anything. Will not write extra essay.

Columbia: Letter date 4/15/05. Still waiting. Will call back on Thursday. Waitlist letter faxed to me on 4/22.

Harvard: called on 4/18/05. They are "running behind." Called 5/2/2005. Found out I was rejected the Monday prior.
--------$$$--------
UCLA: Dean's scholarship offer comes via email on 3/18/2005. $20K over three years.

USC: 3K/year

Ya, I rank Boalt lower than UCLA and GULC not because I think they are better schools or anything, but because I am having a hard time convincing myself to stay in Berkeley...however it's nice to know that if I have a change of heart, the option is there.

Good luck on your top choices

I got the late fee waiver from michigan too. Why couldn't they just have included the waiver on the LSACD application?
