Extra Curricular Information

For future folks reading this: you might think you need to stress out about preparing everything in your life for the law school application process... just don't. I thought that's what I wanted, too, but my plans fell apart giving me the opportunity to experience real life in between.

Don't think that getting into the "right" school will sate your desire to prove yourself. Once you're there, you'll want to finish in the top of your class, and then you'll want to go to the right firm. And so on and so forth until... what exactly? The endless pursuit of validation for its own sake rings hollow after a while, so it's up to you to determine whether whether that path offers instrumental value, too.

So take a moment before, during and after this process to enjoy yourself. I hope you'll be glad you did.

Additional info & updates

19 April - Depositing at Mich and waiting on Harvard. Pretty stoked about what comes next no matter how it unfolds.

12 April - Interview request at Harvard. What does it mean?!

05 April - WL at Harvard. Hooo boy.

29 March - WL at Chicago. As Michigan would say, "What the what...?" Wish I could have traded the Columbia/NYU acceptances for one there.

08 March - Rejected at Berkeley. :/ Never would have guessed that Columbia would be the more ski-bum friendly of the two.

04 March - $102k at UT. $18k/year + in-state tuition

25 Feb - In at UVA and UT via phone

01 Feb - Scholarship offer from CU. Full in-state first-year. 12k/year after that.

28 Jan - In at Columbia. Years ago, I was denied admission to the only Ivy UG to which I applied after a bad interview conducted in a pontoon boat at Bass Pro Shop. At last, I am vindicated. (Withdrew before getting fin aid info because, when I thought about it, I never really wanted to go Columbia in the first place.)

22 Jan - 25k/year dean's scholarship from Michigan. Woohoo!

21 Jan - Applied to UT after a lengthy conversation with an Austin resident. Interested to see what happens this late in the game.

14 Jan - In at Michigan! Wooo!

09 Jan - In at CU. Really hoping for big money, no whammies. $$$ at CU would make it tough to leave Colorado for anywhere else.

13 Dec - Wow! Had no idea NYU moved that quickly. Not sure about life in NYC, but it feels good to get some love this early in the process.

Hi, new here. Wondering if you could elaborate on why you chose Michigan over the other acceptances. Great job by the way, you got into some amazing schools, including my first choice, UVA. Thanks also for the advice about chasing the dream. I'm starting to recognize a pattern, I've reached all my goals thus far but still want more, wondering if I'll ever feel satisfied.
