Rich- I have no idea. When Dean Trujillo called me he told me that I qualified for a merit award which would be determined in the Spring. Sorry, I can't be more helpful. -Jeff

i also had to decide between uchicago and columbia (didn't apply to UVA though). i ended up deciding on uchicago after MUCH deliberation. if you have any q's, id be happy to discuss the decision! i've had a chance to visit both schools. good luck! all the schools you are considering are fantastic-- i'm sure you'll be happy wherever you end up! -jessica

HLS Supplemental Materials
Friday, June 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

Hi - In answer to your question on my page... When I was defered, I sent a new essay/personal statement, plus a new letter of rec (from an HLS grad). Both were mentioned in my phone conversation with Todd Morton. If I had to guess, the new essay was the more important piece. It was meant to make up for what I now see as a flaw in my old personal statement - I didn't cover the "why law school question" adequately, which as a 30+ student changing careers, I should have done. So I answered that question in the new statement, and perhaps more importantly answered "why Harvard in particular." My answer to that second question is what made them think that I was a "good fit." (So I was told.) I did not send in any new materials at wait list time - just the form.
