02/11/07. Deferred at Harvard. I don't have any new info to send them, but I'll write a letter of continued interest.

2/13/07. After much frustration, I give up on Columbia. They informed me on 12/21 that they hadn't received my Dean's Certification, which I'd requested in October. I had it resent the same day. I still have not gone complete. I've e-mailed them twice and gotten no response. I called 1.5 weeks ago. The person said she would put a flag for a status check on my account and someone would get back to me. I still haven't heard anything. I'd rather go to Yale anyway, so I guess it's not worth my trouble anymore. But Columbia, why are you ignoring me?

2/15/07. I've decided not to write a letter to Harvard. I read a blog post by Toby Stock saying that additional materials submitted after a deferral generally are inconsequential. Just going to wait it out.

3/6/07. I finally got a response from Columbia a few days ago. Apparently my UG sent them a letter certifying that I was in fact enrolled there. But Columbia needs to know that I am in good standing. Can't be bothered to call UG again. I withdrew today.

I've been deferred at Chicago. They gave me the option of writing an additional essay on one of three topics: legal interventions for obesity, parental legal responsibility for children's actions, or a review of a recent bestseller. I'm in the process of writing the essay. I want to see if I "win" the essay contest and get admitted.

I love your comment about the prank call. I've totally thought about that happening to me. But I'm sure that it wasn't unless Yale is in cahoots with VA, Georgetown, Duke, & Berekeley. Congrats!

Thanks for your note. Yeah I know, I guess I just like Yale, UMich and Cornell. Omitted the others for irrational and individualistic reasons so I'll spare you the gory details :) But holy moses congrats on YALE!!!!!!
