Some Post-Season Comments (4/23/07):
I hesitate to keep this account up, given that my application cycle isn't really indicative of what "pure" law school applicants often do (withdrawing from half of the schools pre-decision and not attending anywhere) or should expect (I probably should have been declined at HLS much earlier - I imagine that I stayed in the running so long because I was a JD/MBA candidate).

I can't say I'm surprised...or frankly, too disappointed. I knew that HLS was pretty ridiculous given my numbers; I also explicitly indicated in my personal statement that I didn't intend to practice law. For my interests and ambitions, HBS was the best admit (I applied to all of the business schools at the institutions above - 740 GMAT - was accepted almost everywhere). I hit the bid. I'm excited to be attending this autumn.

The amusement is that, until they never got back to me, I deeply liked UVA. I got into Darden, asked for a decision at UVA Law, and never heard back. Judging by the numbers, this is because I would've been dinged. But had I been accepted by both schools there before my HBS bid exploded, I'd likely be headed to Charlottesville this fall. In fact, had I been able to apply ED as a dual-degree student, I very well might have. Given that I was precisely at both of UVA Law's medians from last year, I bet they knew about US News and were/are acting accordingly. I guess that's life in the big city.

If my time on hold at HLS was an indication that I was actually being considered (and not just lost amid the shuffle), then I'm flattered. I'm not sure if I'm going to reapply when I'm enrolled at HBS - depends how life evolves.

Prospective JD/MBA applicants are welcome to contact me - I'll check this account periodically until August 1, 2007.

Additional info & updates

11/12/06: Sorry for failing to update in a while. In at Georgetown Law - first decision (of any sort) received.

11/16/06: In at Georgetown business.

11/17/06: Declined at Cornell business. Withdrew Cornell law app. Also withdrew both apps to W&M.

12/2/06: In at W&M law. Apparently w/d didn't hit early enough. $8k scholarship.

12/8/06: In at UVA business. Wrote UVA law admissions to request a decision.

12/21/06: In at Yale SOM; declined at Wharton. Withdrew Penn Law app.

12/22/06: Deferred at Penn Law. Secretly disappointed that I couldn't ding them before they dinged me.

1/12/07: "On Hold" at HLS - better than the complete rejection I had expected. HBS to report middle of next week, which will determine if I withdraw.

1/17/07: In at HBS. Shocked and thrilled.

1/29/07: Committed at HBS. Withdrew all other law apps except HLS. Rolling the dice...

3/21/07: A kind (and signed-by-human) letter from YLS, acknowledging my withdrawl. Only law school to do as much. Georgetown was only business school (about first week of April).

4/23/07: Dinged at HLS. That concludes my apps. Comments at left.
