Additional info & updates

6/23/15: Attending SIU-Carbondale. Best combination of scholarship, tuition value, and cost of living.

5/5/15: Contacted Wyoming about waitlist and have not rec'd a phone call back.

5/4/15: Was admitted at STCL for spring, but waitlisted at STCL for fall. Hoping I can get pulled from the waitlist.

4/30/15: Put in $250 seat deposit at SIU-Carbondale. If I don't end up at a Texas school, this will most likely be my home for the next three years. Researching the town and rentals at the moment.

2/18/15: Waitlisted at Wyoming via status checker. Heart broken. Was really holding out for Wyoming.

2/9/15: Rejected from Creighton via regular mail.

1/29/15: Received e-mail from dean with acceptance letter and scholarship info from Elon.

1/26/15: Contacted St. Mary's and apparently my application has not even been put in front of the admissions committee. A little annoying considering I applied a heck of a long time ago.

1/26/15: Called Willamette and bc I noticed my LORs were not showing up under the required documents. AHHHHH! Apparently LSAC sent everything but the LORs. I'm to call them in a couple of days to follow up and make sure they got the required LORs.

1/13/15: Telephone interview with Elon.

1/7/15: Called Hamline admissions office because the status checker kept saying my file was incomplete. Mistake on the school's part and it is complete now and has been sent to committee for review.

1/6/15: Online checker says denied at Texas A&M. No surprise. Well known the law school doesn't accept its own (Texas A&M graduates). Most A&M graduates end up going to South Texas in Houston.

1/5/15: SIU-Carbondale will provide in-state tuition even though I'm an out-of-state student.

1/5/15: Elon admission committee wants an interview. Told them in-person was not feasible and I have a telephonic meeting scheduled for mid-month.

1/5/15: E-mail from Savannah came. Accepted! What a fun city Savannah would be to live in... again, things are coming down to $$$ right now.

1/4/15: Reread some of my acceptance letters. Trying to decide if $$$ talks more than "tier level" for each school I've applied to. When I put the scholarship numbers together with the tuition rates, I realized I'm paying about $52,000 less for certain schools. With the legal market recovering, law school is less of a gamble than it was say three years ago. However, I'm still cautious and at this point, $$$ talks. I'm also concerned with where I will live; as I have three small children and a husband to think about.

1/3/15: Contemplating retaking the LSAT. Need to register within the next four days for February LSAT date. I am thinking about calling the schools that I'm waiting on decisions and discussing this issue with the admissions team and see what they say. I really would hate to take the damn test again, but it is what it is. I don't intend to study -- I think I'm prepared. I just psyched myself out the last time.

12/8/14: Rejected at Texas Tech. Letter came regular mail.

9/17/14: Waitlisted at Washburn. This would be huge -- although I live in Colorado and I would get in-state tuition. I will be taking out student loans and need all the help I can get.

9/2/14: App in at Southern Illinois.

9/1/14: App in at Creighton.

8/26/14: Sent Fall 2015 application to Charlotte.

8/29/14: Received big envelope in mail from Western Michigan/Cooley. Yay! 1st acceptance feels great!

8/26/14: Status checker says a decision has been made at Western Michigan.

Out at Tulsa. I knew my shot was EXTREMELY low...but the in-state tuition scholarship would have been amazing. Rejection is no fun -- but it is what it is.

University of Tulsa -- its a long shot, but they have a great scholarship program so I'm hoping for the best. Sent through LSAC 8/14/14

Florida Coast School of Law -- sent through LSAC 8/14/14

WILLIAM MITCHELL

hey! We have similar stats but I was rejected from William Mitchell. How do you think you got in? What do you think was so strong about your applicaiton that they offerred admission? Thanks!

Friday, May 02 2014 at 05:30 PM

I think my application was strong because of some of the personal obstacles I've overcome to even be at this point of applying to law schools. I had three strong LORs from employers/attorneys that probably helped as well, along with a LOR from a former client.

I got accepted there too. How did you get them to give you so much scholarship money. Did you negotiate with them?

Congrats on Charlotte. I did not negotiate. It is what they sent to me in my acceptance packet. Not sure how they figure scholarship money, however I did apply fairly early in the process. Sorry I'm not of any help. **Note the the money is a total figure for 3 years -- not each semester.**

Hi I noticed we have the same numbers. Congrats on your acceptances so far, are you leaning towards any one school?

Friday, May 02 2014 at 05:30 PM

Not leaning towards any schools yet -- still waiting on decisions from 10 schools. Right now my focus is determining the cost of attendance and the cost of living for the next three years. Unfortunately, this will be a substantial controlling factor in my decision.

Hey, I have a 3.83 g.p.a. and a 142 LSAT you think I get accepted to SIU?

I would think the high GPA would compensate for the low LSAT...but I'm not an admissions office rep. :-) Schools I thought I would not get into, I got into. Schools that I thought would be a "safety" I was flat out rejected out. By no means do I know what the secret to success is. I did have a strong work history during school and strong LORs...so I would assume those factored into the equation.

Friday, March 06 2015 at 07:10 PM

Thanks, I think I get in no problem.. I worked on average of 30 hours a week in college. I am getting 2 letters from professors and one from a boss at work. You think I should write an LSAT addendum?

Friday, March 06 2015 at 07:10 PM

I am also applying to Niu do you have to go to the interview, did you since you got accepted?

Friday, March 06 2015 at 07:10 PM

My name is Mitchel btw whats yours because if I get accepted to SIU I be going there and you be a 2L.

LSAT Addendum
Friday, May 02 2014 at 05:30 PM

I did write an LSAT addendum on my application -- basically that I don't feel like I test well but that I'm prepared and eager to learn. Good luck with SIU...I head there next week. Keep in touch! Name is Amanda.

Friday, May 02 2014 at 05:30 PM

No interview at NIU...just acceptance letter in the mail.

Friday, March 06 2015 at 07:10 PM

Thanks. What I am going to do is state my ACT was not good either but my undergrad GPA was good and was hardly a indication of my performance in college. You think I get accepted to SIU? I am nervous...

Friday, March 06 2015 at 07:10 PM

Btw, being a single mother of 3 and going to law school I applaud you... I mean to up root all your 3 kids for this big life change must be semi difficult....

Friday, May 02 2014 at 05:30 PM

Mittayl, yes, its difficult! Not single mom...but still hard as a mom in general. Big life change. Where there is a will there is a way! :-)
