Additional info & updates

Decisions:

Miami - Small, white envelope with generic acceptance letter. Included was a card inviting me to a dean's party of some sort with instructions to dress "smart" casual. Too bad I don't own glasses.

RU-N - a regular, alarmingly thin, envelope containing a single sheet of paper. It expressed how painstaking the application process is and that they were impressed with my application, but will be "forced" to make the decision in April.

NYLS - A nicely plump (but tattered looking) white envelope offering me full-time admission. I also recieved a $10K dean's scholarship for 1L that's renewable if I maintain a 3.2 GPA.

SWU - The acceptance was sent in a large package with all sorts of materials including study abroad programs, honors clubs, a roomate exchange list, and a "New Student's Guide to Living in Los Angeles" (which is extremely handy).

Pace - Large package recieved with cool information in a sleek-looking folder. They offered me a $15K conditional scholarship as long as I maintain a 3.2. The 30th anniversary viewbook is neat!

SHU - Their acceptance letter was SO thin I would have thought it was a rejection, save for the fact that they sent me Financial Aid material in a seperate mailing. (Will prob withdraw Pace and NYLS soon)

Pepp - Almost identical in envelope size and contents to Miami. Is this a coincidence? (both are located in paradise cities that begin w/ M :=) Whatever... the important thing is that they have housing availble ON their resort-like campus!

Hof - Acceptance arrived in a large folder with an $8000 renewable scholarship. The "Business Reply Mail" envelope is hot pink. I'm not sure why.

Cath - This is the first school that offered me admission via email (which came early on a Saturday morning, bizarrely enough). The acceptance package is "on its way" and I wish most schools notified applicants in this manner.

ASU - Yikes!! My first ding came by way of an Arizona State snail mail. I can't really report much about the letter's contents because as soon as I read "regret", it was trashed.

USF - An email with "University of San Francisco - Admissions Notice" written in the subject header signaled the end of my one-school losing streak. The refreshingly concise, no BS, email was written by the director of admissions.

Rich - Richmond admissions crafted my priority waitlist notification so benevolently, I almost forgot I was reading a virtual rejection. Because we are fairly optimistic about being able to admit you from our special Priority Wait List, we strongly suggest you file your FAFSA asap.

Loyola (!!!) I decided to forgo describing the recent onslaught of generic, tired, and monotonous waitlists. Yes, we understand, there are X (colossal) number of applicants to fill a Y (infinitesimal) number of seats. However, a glorious PT acceptance package from Loyola arrived at my doorstep today and turned this cycle around. 25% Chaishu. Fantastic.

USCaro - I almost forgot I applied to South Carolina until an ultra-thin rejection letter graciously reminded me. 10 hour road trip down the drain. Don't USC adcomms realize my preference rankings are only tentative!!?

I too have been deferred from Rutgers Newark and it is one of my top choices. I see that you have already been accepted to Miami, a school you prefer over Rutgers. Does this mean you are going to withdraw your application? If not, are you waiting to hear from any other school before withdrawing since Rutgers is toward the bottom of your list?

Thanks

Thanks for the comment. I didn't apply to Villanova because I am not interested in Philly. Good luck this cycle!

Just got accepted today too, but to the PT eve program. I had the same reaction when I saw the envelope and my heart skipped a beat. Congrats!!

Thank you! SHU is def #1 at this point, although I hope to hear from St Johns soon. Any chance of you attending, or do you have your heart set on another school?

withdrawing

sorry it took me so long to get back to you, but the point of withdrawing is to let schools know that you won't be attending, and perhaps open up a spot to either a borderline or waitlisted applicant. All it takes is an email. When you do decide where you want to go, please withdraw from the rest of your schools. And congrats on your acceptances so far.

Hey, do you have any idea when Richmond makes most of their decisions? I see we're both "pending"...... what else do you know about the school?

USD
Saturday, January 07 2006 at 07:00 PM

Yeah, my brother graduated from USD and he wrote a letter to the dean about me. I'm not sure how much that helped though, so who knows. I didn't think I heard back "soon" though. It feels like I've been waiting forever.

Hey Tom, I applied PT/FT and the acceptance came in a very large, white package.

Re: Loyola (2)

Tom, I applied PT as first choice and my status checker also indicated that a decision was reached on April 12th. My mailbox is huge and can fit just about anything but the package was about the size of a standard folder. Good luck!!!

Tom, I applied for PT consideration at USD. The Loyola acceptance letter did not mention anything about FT. Just bla bla.

J chick - People have told me that it's virtually impossible. When I posed this question to Loyola adcomms, they said a prospective transferee has to submit a transfer request statement and the committee decides whether or not to grant it - but they only do so in special circumstances.

hey!
