Additional info & updates

Received date: Date LSDAS report is requested

Choices are 2004 Chiashu percentages

Fee waivers: Northwestern, Notre Dame (partial), WUStL, William & Mary, Arizona, George Mason, Baylor, etc.

11/3--Got an e-mail from Northwestern saying that all their alumni interviews in SLC are already booked. They have an adcomm coming down to do some additional interviews, but my appointment isn't until 12/8.

11/9--Northwestern is officially redeemed...they sent a fee waiver!

11/21--CU acceptance came snail mail in a big brown envelope...a very pleasant surprise, especially considering they never notified me that I was complete! Feels great to have one in the bag!

12/10--Arizona acceptance in a letter-sized white envelope. 2 down, 11 to go...

12/19--BC acceptance in a large white/green envelope!

12/20--UCLA e-mail! I would LOVE to study law in Westwood!

12/21--GW acceptance e-mail. Man, what a great week.

12/27--USC via snail mail (large white envelope). I'm intrigued...

1/5--In at WUStL via e-mail!

1/9--Got the ND acceptance e-mail! (Later that day...got the admit packet offering $15k/yr!)

1/13--Placed on the waitlist at NW. Realistically, I'll probably end up withdrawing soon, as I really like some of my other options and I don't want to wait until "late May" as it said in their letter to know where I'll be in the fall. Oh well, if this is the worst it gets this cycle, I'm a happy camper.

1/18--In at George Mason, received a phone call from Dean Richards (first one I've had via phone, which was fun).

1/20--Got the BYU e-mail from GaeLynn Kuchar. I loved BYU during my time there in undergrad, so it's certainly still in the running!

1/30--Today was a BIG money day...received the Bernard J. Seeman Scholarship from Colorado, full nonresident tuition the first year and half in-state tuition second and third years, so a total of about $39k. Also got Scholars in Law money from WUStL, $22k a year.

2/1--$$ from Arizona, $13k the first year and $7k the last two years. This probably won't be enough to sway me, especially since you can't get residency there your last two years. I plan on withdrawing from CU, Arizona and GMU soon.

2/6--Withdrew from Arizona, Colorado and George Mason

2/11--GMU scholarship, $10k/yr. Already withdrawn, though.

2/23--Received a need-based grant offer from UCLA for $6,160 per year. I'm hoping that there might possibly be some merit money on top of this...

2/24--AND IT'S ABOUT TIME!!! In at Vanderbilt!!

3/6--Received $2k for first year (renewable) at BYU. Doesn't sound like much, but with how cheap it already is, my total tuition would be under $20k. Something to think about.

3/14--Offered $12k/yr from USC. A nice offer to be sure, but due to a variety of factors I don't think I'll end up there.

3/18--Received $12k/yr from GW and $10k/yr from Vandy. I'm actually in the process of appealing to Vandy for a little more $, as I'm starting to lean in their direction. I'll be at the admit day in Nashville on 3/24.

3/20--Received $18k/yr from BC. A very generous offer, but right now I don't think that Boston is the place for me.

3/30--Vandy bumped their offer from $10k/yr to $12k/yr. My wife and I really enjoyed our time in Nashville at the admitted students day, so that just might be enough to get us there...

3/31--And it's official...I'm off to Vandy! Will be withdrawing soon from everywhere else. If anyone is still unsure and considering Vandy, I'd definitely encourage you to visit the school and meet the students/faculty there. You will come away very impressed!

4/20--Everybody's gotta get one, and I got mine from Duke. This would hurt a lot more if I had received it when I still thought I had a chance. As it is, it's more funny than anything else.

Nice numbers, represent the accountants! Someone told me that accounting gets no love from the adcoms but I refuse to believe that. Good luck.

Hey Jared

I'm getting out of public accounting (I've been working on the tax side) basically because I just don't see my future here. A lot of the people at my firm are miserable with what they're doing, and they work too hard for the scraps they end up earning. I'm interested in business law (specifically transactional and securities) so my accounting undergrad should serve me well for that. Law seems like a field where I can use and develop a more complete skill set (research, writing and quant stuff as opposed to pure number crunching) which also really interests me.

Congrats

Congrats to you as well. We kind have the same career track in mind since I'm also in Accounting and wanting to go into corporate law. Have you considered tax law at all? I've thought about it, but I don't know much about what a tax lawyer does. Can you shed some light with anything you saw working with a Big 4?

Congrats

You've already gotten into some great schools. Good luck the rest of the way.

A couple reasons, I guess. First, financial aid could really swing me one way or the other and I didn't expect my chances for aid at a T14 were that great. And, quite honestly, I wanted to get the most bang for my application bucks. I'd be happy going to any of the schools on my list (right now, I'm thinking I might actually prefer UCLA to NW or Duke) so it's not like I feel like I settled either.

Congratulations...

on USC! We have the exact same numbers, so I'm hoping for a similar positive result! Good luck with the rest!

Not sure yet...it may come down to $$ (it always seems to, I think), and I'm trying to get off those two deferral lists at Cornell and UT. I'm visiting USC this weekend - that will be exciting!

Saw your post on LSD and wanted to pick your brain a little more on Notre. Sounds like you loved the campus. Any real downsides that you picked up from the tour? Thanks and congrats.

BYU w/d

I went to Visitation Day today and my hosts told me that the Grove was a hot place for law students. Don't know about you, you might be thinking differently if you're married.

UCLA

any advice for another kid from Utah trying to get into UCLA? My credentials aren't quite as brilliant as yours, however, I would cut off my right hand to go to that school. Thanks and good luck
