Extra Curricular Information

I really only had one EC in college, and it wasn't remotely law-related (music/performance).

Honors thesis in Biology, Graduation with Distinction, magna cum laude. Dean's list/Phi Eta Sigma. My MS was funded entirely through merit fellowships.

I have a couple of publications (scientific journals).

2 years experience in biomedical research (cancer and drug discovery) and spent the last couple of years getting an MS in Marine Biology from SIO (CA).

I did spend 3 months on a Russian research vessel in Antarctica, which made for a pretty random personal statement. Luckily I was working for NOAA, not the Russians.

Additional info & updates

I only applied to schools in places either near the beach, or without harsh winters (Atlanta). I can't handle cold. I was aiming for UCLA, and got my decision from them within 2 weeks.

Schools Visited: USD, Hawaii, USC, UCLA, Emory
Withdrawn from: USC, USD, Florida, Hawaii, Berkeley

Deciding between: UCLA and taking a year off.

Rec'd $30K/year Merit Scholarship from USD on 4/7
Rec'd $15K/year Merit Scholarship from Emory on 4/8
Rec'd $5K/year merit scholarship from USC on 5/1

4/25: Got a weird "scholarship" offer from UCLA for 3 years of a guaranteed graduate student housing unit... which I still have to pay for. I am stuck scratching my head as to how that is a scholarship. Guess they ran out of $$ but wanted to make me feel better?

5/21: Pretty much eliminated Emory -- my husband has a couple of really good job offers in LA and San Diego and there's not enough reason to move to Atlanta anymore.

tough call

it's a tough one for me... my parents live in Atlanta and the cost of living is SO much lower. depends on where my fiance gets offered a job I guess. We're heading to ATL next weekend to check it out.
