I took a 4 year break during my undergraduate studies, resulting in my LSDAS GPA being significantly lower than my degree granting GPA. I made some bad decisions when I was young!

I also applied to the following Canadian law schools:
- University of Toronto
- York University
- University of British Columbia
- University of Victoria

Additional info & updates

Minnesota offered $8,000 scholarship

UGA acceptance via online status page. Came via snail mail three days later. I notified Georgia via email that I am declining their offer of admission.

Indiana-Bloomington offered $24,000 merit scholarship (divided evenly over three years). I notified Indiana via email that I am declining their offer of admission.

Iowa offered a Merit Fellowship, paying my out of state tuition for year one ($25,718), then in state tuition for years 2 and 3 ($11,510). Way to step up Iowa! Good job.

Northwestern rejected me today via email. I was expecting that, but ouch, it stings!

Illinois' acceptance via snail mail. Offered $10,000 annually. I notified Illinois by mail that I do not plan to accept their offer of admission.

Received email notification of my acceptance to the University of Victoria.

University of British Columbia acceptance via snail mail.

Rejected via snail mail by the University of Toronto.

Today (2/7) was an interesting day. I received via snail mail a rejection from UC Berkeley. This was my top choice, but I didn't think I had a realistic chance of getting accepted. When I checked my email, I found out that I was accepted to Washington University in St. Louis, so that helped a little bit.

Just as an aside, I realized I applied to Washington and Lee, Washington University, and the University of Washington. That being said, I was always more of a Jefferson fan.

At this point (2/18/05), I am a little confused as to what is taking Wisconsin and William and Mary so long to make their decisions. I know my application isn't as crystal clear as some others, but we're not talking about rocket science here either!

Washington University in St. Louis offered $5,000 per year.

UW's rejection came via snail mail. That's okay though, I don't like coffee enough to go to school in Seattle.

I just got a really impressive package from Washington University in St. Louis. It was very informative and professional. Head and shoulders above any of the other informational brochures I've received from other schools.

Washington and Lee offered $7000 annually.

Got rejected by Virginia via snail mail.

I attended W&L's admitted student's day on Saturday (March 18) and I was quite impressed by what I saw. I am now trying to decide if I should go were my education will be the least expensive (Iowa) or if I should take out more loans to go to a school with which I was more impressed. Any advice?

I was pleastantly surprised to find I had been put on the waitlist at Cornell. I honestly thought I had no shot at all, and I probably still don't have much of a shot, but at least I wasn't rejected outright. On the flip side, I was disappointed with William and Mary's decision to waitlist me. I spoke with dean of admissions there and she told me flat out that the reason I wasn't admitted had nothing to do with me as a person, or whether or not they thought I would succeed in their program, but was entirely because my cummulative GPA wasn't high enough. She told me that my GPA number was just too low and, "we have to keep our numbers up for the rankings." I guess the more highly rated law schools of Iowa, Wahington and Lee, Minnesota, and Washington Univeristy didn't have the same concerns.

I think I will accept Minnesota's offer of admission, despite the better scholarship offer of Iowa. In visiting the two schools, I was impressed with Minnesota's staff, facility, and programs, especially their clinical offerings. Iowa was disappointing to me, so money aside, I think Minnesota is the better fit.

The only thing that is going to stop me now from becoming a Golden Gopher is if Cornell decides to accept me and give me a huge scholarship. That being said, I'm looking forward to Minnesota!

Your story is quite familiar, though you ended up with better grades than I coming out the other side. Still, your news from Iowa is heartening. Best of luck!

quick question: i am waiting for a response re: UNC wait list, and I was curious how you received yours. As a side note, if not UNC, I will be attending UofM as well. Thanks,
