Extracurricular Information

Never give up on your dreams. Looking back on my application cycle for undergrad, I was never a good test taker. My SAT score was a lot lower than I would have liked and limited my school choice. Having said that, this LSAT score also did not come easy.

I took the test three times, June 09, September 09 and again in December 09. Let my application cycle be encouragement to those who are currently struggling with this whole process. My original diagnostic was 146 which I knew already put me at a huge disadvantage. Nonetheless, hard work and determination always pays off. Don't let people get you down by telling you that 20 point improvements are impossible because I'm proof that it can be done. Never settle because in truth you only get to do this once... make it count.

Three years ago I would have never thought that I would have the opportunity to attend a school like Emory or to even be part of the competitive applicant pool. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting for their cycles to end and to those of you applying in the future, I wish you the best.

Additional Information

1/04/10 - and so it begins...

1/19/10 - Florida State status checker changed to "decision by mail." Definitely wasn't expecting decisions to start coming so soon, hopefully it's good news.

1/21/10 - In at Florida State via phone call and email. Not sure how I feel about spending another 3 years in Tallahassee, but my first acceptance nonetheless! Hopefully some decent scholarship money will follow.

1/22/10 - Florida status checker changed to "decision letter in transit." Apparently these letters don't actually go out on the date listed via the status checker so this might take a while. Calling the admissions office and asking what the decision was didn't get me anywhere either, guess I have to wait for this one.

1/25/10 - In at Miami via snail mail. I also called them wondering what the status of my application was earlier in the day and the lady on the phone told me that I was in. Miami's tuition is pretty steep, but admissions said scholarship information usually arrives 2-3 weeks after an offer of admission.

1/29/10 - In at Minnesota via phone call. My first t20 acceptance feels nice. However, after I got off the phone with the dean I checked the weather in Minnesota... I don't think I could handle -6º.

1/30/10 - In at Florida via snail mail. Letter finally got here. No mention of scholarship money, but apparently Florida doesn't send that information with the initial offer of admission, though I hear they're pretty stingy with money overall.

2/04/10 - Minnesota packet arrived with $18k/yr scholarship. There was no mention of scholarship money when I received my admit phone call so it was a pleasant surprise to be offered a nice junk of change. Going to hold on to this one for now.

2/12/10 - $12k for 1L from Florida State. Pretty disappointing scholarship offer. Letter said that I could apply for other scholarships after 1L but that doesn't sound too promising. I don't think there's any chance now that I'd attend Florida State over Florida regardless.

2/16/10 - In at WUSTL via email. I was getting worried about this one having watched my status checker update "complete" several times. There was mention of scholarship awards being determined at a later date so hopefully something good will come.

2/25/10 - $20k/yr at WUSTL via email. AWESOME! Beats my Minnesota offer and it's from a higher ranked school. I don't know if I would want to practice in the midwest but it certainly gives some leveraging power for other schools.

3/04/10 - In at Emory with $20k/yr. Absolutely THRILLED! This totally made my spring break and you bet I went out and celebrated. The letter was scanned and emailed to me due to a mess-up with my original admissions packet. I was scared that I missed the train on this one. Emory had essentially been silent except for an "application complete" email on 1/19/10. Emory is by far my first choice, above even those schools ranked higher on my list. I'm pretty sure this is where I'll be attending in the fall!

3/08/10 - Withdrew from Florida State, Minnesota and WUSTL. Hope my spots go to someone dying to get in!

3/09/10 - Withdrew from Notre Dame, Boston University and Cornell before a decision was reached. I wouldn't choose any of them over my current offers. Also withdrew from Miami due to the lack of any scholarship offers whatsoever.

3/10/10 - Emory snail mail packet arrived today with a paper copy of my acceptance letter and information about ASW. This is definitely the one.

3/11/10 - Wtihdrew from Vanderbilt and mailed my first seat deposit to Emory! My cycle is finally over and what a long ride it's been. I'm keeping my UF application open so that I can attend the ASW that I've already registered for but they'd have to pave the streets in gold over there in Gainesville to get me to give up Emory.

Yeah .. I'd be looking a lot closer if they came through with a scholarship offer!! :) I'm going to wait about a week to see if anything comes and then send an e-mail asking, haha, we'll see how that works! Pretty exciting though. MissVik218
