Additional info & updates

Decided to include a little information in hopes that I can ease at least one person's anxieties. Because if you're anything like me you've probably bitten your nails down to nubs!

So as you can see, my numbers are nothing to write home about. However, I will admit that I am able to pretty effectively explain my UGPA, as it was the result of some pretty tragic events at that point in my life. I am currently in graduate school at a top ranked university with nearly a 4.0 so I believed that may have helped my application quite a bit. I can almost guarantee that my "soft factors" (personal statement, LOR, extracurriculars) are the main selling points of my application. I spent a great deal of time--nearly 4 mths to be exact--on what ended up being a 2.5 page personal statement. (I told you guys I'm an anxious, obsessive person! lol.) My recommenders were all professors or former teachers in some capacity. I thought that was the best route to go in case they doubted my classroom performance.

I took an LSAT prep course with Princeton Review and was able to decent score and reduce my test anxiety. I only took the LSAT once (Dec 2011).

Hmmm...what else? I have a pretty decent resume with lots of volunteer and public service activity, so perhaps that's been helpful too.

Any other questions...ask!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

****************************************************
1/23/12 - Got my first acceptance email today from American! Shocked is not even the word!!! Especially since I just submitted the app 2 weeks ago. Whew. Glad I can stop having those "what if I never get into law school" thoughts.

1/23/12 - Man, helping that little old lady across the street this weekend must have earned me some extra pts with St. Peter. In at Temple!

1/26/12 - And my week just keeps getting better. In at Howard with a $22,500 scholarship! (Strict stipulations...top 15% of class).

1/27/12 - Got my acceptance packages in the mail today from Temple and American. Shocked to find out I got a $10,000 renewable from Temple (no stipulations). American doesn't inform about scholarships until March. Also applied for their Public Interest Scholarship. *fingers crossed*

1/30/12 - This Monday isn't nearly as good as last monday. Out at Northwestern. Not that I didn't see that coming.

2/1/12 - Howard packet came today. No new info there.

***crickets***

2/15/12 - Waitlisted at Georgia. I'm actually pleasantly surprised by that one. I thought for sure I'd be getting an outright no. Must have impressed them at least a tad. Small victories. lol

2/17/12 - Out at NYU. This one blows! Although it was totally expected, I was praying for some divine intervention. Must have submitted my prayer request too late. lol

2/17/12 - Acceptance email from Catholic! My online status also says a scholarship offer was mailed to me. Wonder how much it's for??? *rubbing hands together like the Grinch*

2/18/12 - Scholarship info from Catholic. 10,500/yr. Not sure what (if any) the stipulations are.

2/20/12 - Invited to interview with Catholic to increase scholarship.

2/22/12 - In at Mercer via status checker. Letter in the mail. No scholarship info yet.

2/27/12 - This wait is LITERALLY driving me insane! This has ceased being "exciting" and crossed clean over into "down right nerve wracking". I mean, truthfully, I'm not expecting too many more acceptances, but it'd be nice to get it over with already!

3/1/12 - In at Southern via snail mail

3/2/12 - Waitlisted at Fordham via OSC. Grrrrr!!!

3/5/12 - Withdrew from Mercer. Received packet in the mail...no scholarship offered (confirmed via phone...all schollys gone) and I wouldn't pay sticker. It was my "safety safety".

3/12/12 - Found out that LSAC never sent Fordham my LORs. That could explain the waitlist. Might change things...might not. Also sent in a last minute app to GA State.

3/15/12 - Status checker for Stanford changed to decision letter sent. No seat deposit updates. Safe to assume that's a ding. Duh!

No from Harvard. Total no brainer.

Waitlisted at Northeastern. Actually kinda shocked by this one. O well. Will likely withdraw soon.

3/22/12 - Waitlisted at Emory. In other news...Tulane and UCLA are taking their sweet, precious time. It's been over 2 mths now. I wish they would send these [more than likely] denials already so I can move on with my life!

3/28/12 - Accepted at Tulane. Letter and scholarship offer in the mail. UPDATE: $25k renewable scholarship.

4/5/12 - Been submitting withdrawals this week. Leaning heavily towards Tulane. Campus visit scheduled for this upcoming Monday.

Made the final decision to attend Tulane. Super excited!

UPDATE: 4/30/12 - TOTALLY shocked (and slightly annoyed) by the last minute waitlist offer from UCLA. Was WAY beyond a reach school, so I'm grateful to not get the ding...yet. But I waited over 3 months!!! Anywho.

I think it would help people a lot if you identified whether you applied as a URM. My guess is that you did.

Well done

Tulane is a great school. I know some guy who went there who ended up clerking for a US Court of Appeals judge and for the US Attorney's Office. From the looks of it, he'll end up being an academic as he is now working with a law professor. Anyhow, I think you would help a lot of people by identifying your gender and your race. I think law schools strive for diversity, which makes them consider your gender and race as factor along with your extracurriculars, your background, your GPA and your LSAT (granted, not all of the listed factors have equal weight). But anyhow, congrats! I know the feeling of what you went through. Especially the waitlists from UGA and UCLA. I got waitlisted by Cornell and know exactly how it feels to not be outright rejected...a small victory to savour.
