Did appalachian offer you any money?

Nailbiting time

Well, I got accepted at the two schools that invited me to apply. I really have no intention of attending either. I've got to believe that even with my numbers, at least 4 of the other 26 (yeah, I know, insane) schools I applied to will accept me. Called to do some application status checks today, everything seems cool, although Penn State, after putting me on hold, said that my brownsheets never arrived and they had to print them off the net, and that my file was now complete. I hope this delay doesn't screw me there, because I am really interested in that school. Willamette was really friendly, and told me that my application was currently in committee, and that I should hear in a week, two at most. Pitt, which I have little real hope of getting into, also told me it was in committee and I should know by April 1st. Also in committee at Seton Hall. So now, the mailbox watch becomes even more nerve-wracking....

George Mason - wankers!

These wankers invited me to apply, and rejected me. Fine by me, I don't really want to live in that part of the country anyway...

Slowly going mad...

Rejection from Oregon - no surprise there, it was the least likely by the numbers. Called Willamette, since I see that several people with my numbers or worse have been accepted over the past few days who applied at the same time as I did, but still nothing here from them. They told me a decision has been made, and that it will be sent out tomorrow. Of course, they are not allowed to disclose over the phone. Grrr, I guess I will know by the end of the week.

I would take ONU over App any day!

ONU

Yeah, I agree it is better, but I am holding out for any of the others I applied to. I really don't want to move back to crap weather. Not even one little bit. (From Boston, lived in Minneapolis.) I like to be able to go out and hike year-round. :-)

Willamette yes! The pressure is off
Saturday, February 25 2006 at 07:00 PM

Phew! I really like this school, so if I get in nowhere else, I am content. :-)

Congrats on Willamette! That's where I'm heading in the fall, and I'm really looking foward to it. Maybe I'll see you there in August! :)

I really liked the campus. It was very pretty. Good if you are looking at state gov't. I have narrowed down to Willamette and Seattle Un. as of now. I'll e-mail you more later, when I'm not at work! Also, my GPA for undergrad was actually a 3.5. The low overall was from a stint at another university 10 years ago. I think that factored into the scholarship.

About the money - I'm assuming the reason I got so much was because I applied early. I've noticed that as it gets later and later in the cycle, people with our numbers and even higher are getting less and less from them. Maybe they'll send out updated scholarship stuff for the people who were admitted recently after the first deposit deadline passes. Also, you might want to call the admissions office - I've called a few times and went in to visit, and every time the people I've talked to have been really helpful. They can probably give you an idea of whether you're being considered for a scholarship.

Appeal worked!
Saturday, February 25 2006 at 07:00 PM

Well, Willamette gave me $8000.00 renawable on appeal, which sure beats the previous zero. Still waiting to hear from the bulk of schools, but at least today's mail brought this good news.

Waitlist USF, in at Penn State!
Saturday, February 25 2006 at 07:00 PM

Letter from USF, ,medium wait, I had a feeling it was a waitlist. Penn State, email offering me a place in the class! Really happy about Penn State.

CONGRATS! Tier 2. You've really improved from App.

SLU, et al.
Sunday, March 05 2006 at 07:00 PM

I was waitlisted at SLU also, but they called me this week to offer a seat in the full time program. So maybe they will call you also. As for going there, its still uncertain, just because my wife is unsure about financing it entirely in loans. Akron still has a lot of appeal.

yay

Willamette looks good. Have you visited? It is a seriously gorgeous campus.

no $ for me
Monday, March 27 2006 at 07:00 PM

darn it willamette won't give me more $

Pitt!!!!
Saturday, February 25 2006 at 07:00 PM

Oh yeah! Pitt, here I come!

USF - weird
Saturday, February 25 2006 at 07:00 PM

After rejecting me off the wait list, I got a call Friday offering me a place in the class. I explained that two weeks ago, I might have considered it, but I already had moved to Pittsburgh. Oh well. Pitt is a better school anyway, but my wife would have loved to stay in the Bay Area (I am sick to death of it), but there is a large Filipino community there, and that is really important to her, so I am sad for her that it didn't come sooner, because I would have stayed for her sake.
