Extra Curricular Information

I read somewhere that great softs won't get you in, but not having them will keep you out. I think this is fairly accurate, unless you won the Nobel Peace Prize or cured cancer. So I won't go into detail on these. But I do have all the things (more or less) you'd expect to see (leadership positions, volunteer work, law-related internships, study abroad, etc)

Additional info & updates

12/3 - Eggnog lattes are back at Starbucks, and the admissions season is in full swing! I was originally expecting to get my first decisions in mid-December, so my pre-Halloween acceptance from Georgetown was a very big (and very pleasant) surprise. Since Gtown, I've gotten one decision a week: Ohio State, Michigan, Vanderbilt, and, just a few hours ago via phone call, Boston U. Good luck to everyone and I'll update as I get more decisions.

12/7 - NYU! I'm in shock, and so happy.

12/9 - The one-a-week theory is officially out the window. 2 days after NYU, I get a call from Minnesota and an e-mail from Boalt. I was pretty sure I hadn't gotten into Berkeley, because they've been making calls for weeks now. The man from Minnesota mentioned that a scholarship would be coming with the mailing.

12/14 - My Minnesota letter came today, including a
$30,000/yr scholarship, renewable each year. I also got a letter today from Boston U, offering me the exact same amount.

12/17 - In at Cornell via phone call (I called them). Also, e-mail from Penn requesting my Fall grades. Had a mini-heart attack when I thought it was a waitlist/rejection. There is still hope...for now.

12/29 - In at U Chicago via phone call! Happy New Year!

1/5 - Held at Harvard. The e-mail said I can expect a final decision anytime between now and late Spring. I'm still thrilled it wasn't a rejection/waitlist e-mail (yet).

1/23 - In at GW via snail mail.

1/25 - Dean's Scholarship at Michigan for $10,000/yr, awarded for my participation in Teach For America. I was strongly considering them before I got this letter, so I'm very happy.
UPDATE: In at USC. My status checker has said "decision finalized" for a week. I still haven't received a letter in the mail, but I just got an e-mail for admitted students, so I'm assuming I'm admitted!

2/3 - held by Northwestern. I know some people get bummed when they're held, but I'm thrilled to still be in the game. I'm a Chi-town girl at heart.

2/24 - Awarded $30,000 by Chicago (10k/yr). Also received an invitation to apply for a Dean's scholarship at NYU, but I'm deferring so I can't actually pursue that now.

2/26 - Withdrew from Berkeley. It's a great school, but it's not for me, and there are too many people dying to go there for me to hold the spot any longer.

3/1 - 72K (24k/yr) merit scholly from Vandy! Letter via snail mail.

3/11 - Waitlisted at Penn. Also interviewed for a dean's scholarship at Georgetown. They said they will notify me by 3/15.

4/16 - Waitlist e-mail from Harvard (on a Saturday!)

4/26 - Sent in my binding enrollment agreement to NYU!!!! Thus ends my cycle. I couldn't be happier, NYU was always my dream school. Good luck to everyone else!
