Additional info & updates

***Scholarships listed above are the 3 year totals, except St. Thomas (it is a one year scholarship, with ability to increase amount after first year).

-Received fee waivers (some automatic, some asked for) from all law schools except UF, which I did not ask because they say they only give them to people with 160 LSAT and 3.5 GPA.

-UF, Tulane, FIU, and Stetson are all reach schools, but I received fee waivers so why not give it a shot? St. Thomas is my top choice that isn't a reach school. On that note, I would choose Tulane over any of them.

-Received emails from Charlotte and Arizona Summit that I may qualify for a $12,000 yearly merit scholarship if I apply there, but I would like to see if I can get into more prestigious law schools.

-11/3/14: Working on personal statement and still waiting for one letter of recommendation to be submitted until I send in my applications.

-12/31/14: Applications submitted to all 9 law schools. Now we play the waiting game.

-1/15/15: Accepted to the St. Thomas University of Law, via the online status checker!

-1/16/15: Accepted to the Florida Coastal School of Law via email! I was also offered $12,000 per year.

-1/20/15: Rejected from Stetson via email. After 2 acceptances, it sucked to get a rejection letter.

-1/21/15: FIU has made a decision and it was sent via the mail.

-1/23/15: Status for Nova Southeastern has changed to "With Committee" on the status checker.

-1/26/15: Received the letter from FIU and it says that there is a hold on my application for further review. It says it is not a "waitlist," but they will reevaluate my application as more applications roll in to compare mine against the others. I guess it is better than a full on rejection letter.

-1/26/15: Accepted to the Barry University School of Law via the online status checker!

-1/27/15: Received an email from Barry that they offered me $10,000 per year, a $1,000 book stipend, and a MacBook Air.

-1/30/15: Accepted to the Nova Southeastern Shepard Broad Law Center via online admissions letter!

-2/3/15: Accepted to the Ave Maria University School of Law via the online status checker! They also sent me an email offering me $15,000 per year.

-2/5/15: Rejected from Tulane via the online status checker. I know I didn't have the numbers, but I'm pretty upset still. Tulane was by far my first choice.

-2/6/15: Florida Coastal matched my scholarship offer from Ave Maria for $15,000/year.

-2/9/15: Barry just emailed and offered me a $2,000 Dean's Award grant for the first year.

-2/16/15: My application to UF has been submitted into comparative review.

-2/17/15: I received an email from St. Thomas that they are offering me a $7,500 scholarship for the first year, with the ability to increase that number if I finish the first or second year in the top 20% of my class. (It is reflected in the above chart that the 7,500 is just for one year.)

-3/5/15: I received an email from Ave Maria stating that my scholarship has been increased from $15,000 per year, to $21,000 per year. While that is very enticing, I am leaning towards St. Thomas at the moment. Once I hear back from UF and FIU, I will make my decision, but as of now, it looks like I am heading to St. Thomas!

-3/26/15: I have paid my seat deposit to the St. Thomas University School of Law, in hopes of completing the joint J.D./MBA of Sport Administration degree program! I have notified all the other schools I have been admitted to, and FIU, that I declined their offer, so I hope I freed up some space if anyone was waitlisted at those schools.

-4/13/15: Just received a letter in the mail from St. Thomas saying they have increased my scholarship to $10,000 per year, as long as I keep a 2.6 cumulative GPA at the end of my first year! There is a chance to increase the scholarship if I finish in the top 20% of my class in the first or second year.

-4/24/15: Waitlisted at UF via the online status checker. Surprised it wasn't an all-out rejection, but it seems as though there are a lot of people in front of me on the waitlist. Oh well!

-5/11/15: Withdrew application from UF. It is pretty annoying that they drag out their process so much so I just said screw it. I'm going to a law school where I feel comfortable, and I probably didn't even have a chance at UF anyways. I just do not understand why they take so long for everything.

Thanks! I tried to comment on your page, but for some reason it wouldn't let me. Good luck to you too. Did you get your scholarship offer from St. Thomas in the mail? I haven't gotten an email or snail mail since I got accepted via the status checker. I'm hoping I also get some money there. It would be nice to get a joint degree there.

Oh, it's alright! I got it through snail mail. It would. It looks like such a nice campus/school.

Hey, did you attach a document explaining your LSAT score?

Tuesday, September 23 2014 at 04:03 PM

I didn't, but looking back on it, I should've. I thought an addendum would just give excuses but it seems they work for people. I regret not attaching one.

how you like thomas
