I wish I didn't mess up on Logic Games... :(

I know I'm an auto-reject at NYU, but why not waste $75?

**********

Brooklyn Law 3/03: The dreaded waitlist. I am officially depressed.

Fordham 2/28: Just checked the online status checker: "Denied" - Ouch. Kinda wish I would have waited for the gentle letdown via the snail-mail rejection letter.

Cardozo 2/25: "After careful review..." Waitlisted. I knew it was coming as I compared LSN stats. My entire application is reduced to my LSAT score. Why all the pretense? Do I sound a bit jaded? Sorry.

Rutgers - Newark: 2/11: No scholarship $$. Nada.

St. John's 2/11: Acceptance letter in the mail. I'm disturbed...no scholarship package. Not a penny.

ARG - St. John's seems to have an arbitrary 160 LSAT cutoff for scholarship money...take a good look at the LSN stats. This really makes my decision very difficult...

St. John's 2/7: Accepted

NYLS 1/26: Dean's Scholarship: $25,000

Congrats on NYLS - and all the $$ along with it!! How did they notify you? Good luck with the rest - this is a great sign for things to come!

Same Deal
Sunday, January 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

I got the same offer from the NYLS. Though they called it a Trustee Scholarship I think. Just waondering what your thoughts are on it. I got into Cardozo for instance, but there's no 25k offer... Trying to decide whether to take the money or the better ranking... We applied to mostly the same schools, too. You must also be from NYC.

BTW

That's some kinda GPA!

Brooklyn v. Fordham v. Cardozo
Sunday, January 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

I don't expect to get into Fordham for one! But, I also get the sense that Brooklyn has the clinical training I'm looking for in addition to a great LRAP program. Plus, it's just a short bike or subway ride from my apt. Of course, if I get into Fordham, Ill take a serious look at it. The Cardozo May program affords the exact same opportunities as fall admission. Your first year is split up into trimesters, so your load is a little lighter than the other JDs. Starting 2nd year, you go full time.

I just called St. John's. They have a menu option to check on your status. You leave your name, number, social, and someone calls back to let you know. They got back to me within a half hour. It is def easier to get into the cardozo may program. It doesn't affect their US News numbers, so they can take someone with a low LSAT or GPA (me) without it hurting their ranking.

May Program
Sunday, January 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

There can't be any harm in calling their admissions dept. and asking if you could be considered for the May program as well. It really gives you an advantage over other 1Ls. That being said, if I had to choose btwn. Cardozo and the NY Law right now, I'd probably go to NY Law, because of the money. I want to do public interest, so I have to be really careful about the debt.

They finally updated it today. Congrats on St. John's. I still haven't heard from them! WTF? I thought they were a layup.

St. John's
Tuesday, December 06 2005 at 07:00 PM

Nope, they didn't offer me any $$. I was actually a little surprised since I saw a bunch of people on LSN with lower index numbers who at least were offered 5K/yr. Crazy!

St. John's
Sunday, January 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

Not sure. I'm beginning to think they might not even accept me! I would have thought I'd have word by now. And money-wise, they may make an offer later on... Anyway, did you really want to commute to Jamaica every day?

St. John's
Friday, January 06 2006 at 07:00 PM

Any update on scholarship money? I'm in the same boat as you, with a 3.3 index and no money mentioned in my acceptance letter. I'm pretty shocked, because I know people personally with a 3.4 who received 20k annually...he received his scholarship offer about a week after he got his acceptance letter, but that doesn't seem to be the trend. Let me know what happens...I only got in about a week ago but if I don't hear about some cash in a few days I plan on calling. Boo :(

Cardozo
Tuesday, December 27 2005 at 07:00 PM

Out of the schools I've heard from, I'd probably pick Cardozo. It would be May start, although that wouldn't be ideal for me because I'm supposed to be abroad for most of the summer so it would nix those plans. I applied anyway, though, because I definitely wanted the option and thought I had a better chance if I applied for May. I'm really hoping to get into Brooklyn or Fordham (looong shot). What are you top choices? Good luck with the rest of your apps!

Right You Are

I'm in at SJ

St. John's
Tuesday, December 06 2005 at 07:00 PM

It's so strange to think that they really might have a 160 LSAT scholarship cutoff. So, for me, one point is the difference between full tuition and nada? Weirrrrd. Cardozo is looking like my best offer yet. I'm actually excited about it!!

St. J & Brooklyn
Sunday, January 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

Yes, it's a hefty amount, and puts St. John's back in the running. NYLS is pretty much done for. I know I went complete on the 30th or 31st because they had been missing 1 thing from me, which I fed exed to get there on the 30th. I then called them a couple of days later. I must have been complete by the 31st, because that's their cut off for 1st rnd. of admissions.

Choices
Sunday, January 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

St. John's just went to the top, I think. They did a great PR job at their open house, and right now I'm sold. Now, if Brooklyn or Cardozo offers a big chunk of $, I may swing back their way. I wouldn't give up on getting some $ yet. As time goes on, and students turn down scholarships, more money will be available.

Thanks
Sunday, January 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

Great link...didn't know about that site. Illuminating. For me, it might not be such a big deal. I have no interest in white shoe or corporate. I want to practice criminal. And there, the differentiation largely melts away. I have to dig a bit deeper but SJU is way up on its ability to turn out trial lawyers.

Cardozo
Sunday, January 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

I'm sorry. I can't believe they waitlisted you! A 4.06 with a classics major? WTF else do they want? Two more stinkin LSAT points? Are you going for the summer program, too?

Fordham
Tuesday, December 06 2005 at 07:00 PM

Tepi, I'm sorry to hear about the Fordham decision. It's hard to resist the status checker. Come to 'dozo with me! After May '07, it'll be just as if we were accepted! ;)

St. Johns
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

I'm sorry to read that St. Johns hasn't offered you a scholarship. I'm in a similar situation with St. Johns - I have similar numbers as you, and index well within their admit range, but still haven't been accepted. I applied in November 2005. I'm watching people with lower indexes and who applied later get admitted with scholarships. At this point I'll be lucky to get in, but any kind of scholarship is highly doubtful. Very disappointing as St. Johns was a bit of a dream school for me. I have a feeling they might have a scholarship cutoff at 160. Best of luck to you as your admissions cycle winds down. Any ideas about where you'll be going?

Brooklyn
Tuesday, December 06 2005 at 07:00 PM

I was annoyed, but now I'm fine. Most likely I will withdraw. I'm just a little irked that I paid $65 for "no final disposition" on my app. GRR. Damn, I really wish you could do Cardozo May. Maybe you could write specifically to Dean Schwartz about your situation?

WL
Tuesday, December 27 2005 at 07:00 PM

:( I was hoping you'd make the cut at Brooklyn. I'm finishing up a masters as well, I won't even have graduated by then if I start in May!

plans
Saturday, December 03 2005 at 07:00 PM

My plan is to hope against hope that Fordham PT or GW PT works out all the while getting ready to start Cardozo in 70 something days. I'm going to ask to stay on the WL but I really can't accept anything after the last week in April so I doubt that will work out. What are you thinking at this point?

Brooklyn
Monday, May 30 2005 at 08:00 PM

I'm so sorry about Brooklyn. That totally sucks (although you're not out for the count). Would you consider going PT? I expect to be laughed onto Bklyn's reject list any day now. Good luck with the rest - St. John's and Rutgers, are great schools!

grad school
Tuesday, December 27 2005 at 07:00 PM

I\\\'ll be finishing it, just I think there is some overlap between officially finishing where I am now and starting Cardozo.

That sucks
Sunday, January 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

I've been liking Brooklyn less and less these days. Everything with them is a pain. An A+ in classics should be enough for them no matter what your lsat--it's not like you majored in communications! Have you asked for PT consideration?

Oh
Sunday, January 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

And St. John's is still on the top of my list.

damn
Sunday, November 13 2005 at 07:00 PM

you don't get a degree in classics without being damn intelligent. i think it's regretful that your whole application boils down to your LSAT score. did you apply part-time anywhere? i think you would have gotten into Fordham PT

Cardozo/Dean Schwartz
Tuesday, December 06 2005 at 07:00 PM

I was thinking that you could let him know that you would love to be considered for the May program but have a conflict with finishing your M.A. I don't know if he'd give you special consideration but who knows? At the very least, you'd be expressing a strong interest to attend and that doesn't hurt. I guess I tend to think of Cardozo as pretty accomodating if they feel you really want to attend. I wrote them a letter the very same day I received the waitlist and mailed it the next morning, telling them I was very interested in attending. A week later was when I got the call about May. Just an idea (admittedly a little half-baked).

Cardozo
Tuesday, December 06 2005 at 07:00 PM

Were u waitlisted for the May program at Cardozo? Wondering b/c your profile doesn't say PT

Schwartz
Sunday, January 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

I concur with notgood. Dean Schwartz is very accomodating and will not be irritated to talk to you like people in so many other admissions depts. Also, I found him easy to get a hold of. I think every tiome I called, he was there. Good luck.

Cardozo
Monday, January 02 2006 at 07:00 PM

Did Cardozo mention anything to you in their WL letter about being considered for the May program?

Fordham
Tuesday, December 06 2005 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the congrats -- I'm as surprised as anyone! SJU has an awesome program (I'd go with them over NYLS) but keep yourself on the waitlist for Cardozo and/or Brooklyn. Might as well, right? At any rate, you will do well because you clearly have the intellectual stamina to kick ass over those darn high LSAT splitters. ;)

rutgers
Sunday, February 05 2006 at 07:00 PM

is rutgers your top choice at the moment? just asking, if it isnt and your not planning to attend, could you please inform the admissions office?
