Additional info & updates

10/24/07
Waitlisted from Duke Priority Track. Maybe due to GPA, maybe due to only one academic rec in at time of review. Maybe due to something else which will also screw me with other schools.

11/17/07
Accepted at William & Mary via large Priority Mail envelope. Scholarship is over two years with C average.

11/26/07
Off-campus Georgetown interview (in Miami). Online status says 'Interview' as of 11/29/07.

12/4/07
Still waiting on some GULC word--nothing in the mail and nothing on the status checker. However, I was pleasantly surprised to go to 'decision' at Vandy and UMich. If one of them shames me like Duke did, I won't be pleased.

12/7/07
Accepted to Michigan for summer start via large envelope. Checked 'summer or fall start' on application, though I very much wanted summer. Since I got it, my cycle is basically over.

Also, today I made the bold move of withdrawing my ED GW application. Since I've not yet been admitted (not sure if I had a chance for the full ride, anyway), there is no issue. UMich > GW for free.

12/8/07
Accepted to Vanderbilt via ridiculous box with tons of materials. Acceptance letter wasn't in box, which is amusing.

12/11/07
Notified of Cornell acceptance by way of email. Materials should be en route.

12/13/07
Received Cornell materials.

12/14/07
Received Georgetown deferral dated 12/7. Letter states that decision will be reached by 2/15/08.

12/18/07
Accepted to BC via large envelope.

1/15/08
Received notification of UCLA waitlist via snail mail. No biggie.

2/4/08
Small envelope rejection courtesy of Columbia. $12 well spent.

Early March
While out of country, snail mail word of Vandy scholarship was delivered to permanent address. I wanted more from them, but they've earned a visit nonetheless.

Mid- and late-March
Nice scholarships from Cornell and BC. Neither letter specified, but I highly doubt the Cornell one is merit-based. I'm quite pleased and hope Michigan sends along something similar and/or will negotiate.

4/2/08
While at the Michigan ASW I received an email notification of Duke acceptance to JD/MA in Philosophy. It's tempting.

I sent in a LOCI and 'Why Duke?' essay (which concentrated on Philosophy faculty) sometime in Feb, and visited in early March.

Whatt? How have you been waitlisted already at Duke? It's not even November yet. This seems odd to me...I've never heard of someone getting waitlisted before November. How did Duke notify you of this?

Sorry if this sounds ignorant...but how did you even go about applying "Priority track"...because I applied on Sept. 1st and would have loved that option. Would you mind explaining a bit because I'm kind of in the dark. Thanks man.

Oh okay

gotcha, thanks for the clarification. And keep your head up, you've got solid numbers and you're going to get into a great school. Good luck, I'll be keeping an eye on your cycle.

I wouldn't let the Duke waitlist get you down. It's got to be your GPA. You are at their median LSAT (169 for last year's class) but substantially below their median GPA. (Luckily other schools don't emphasize GPA as much). I just wanted to point this out so you don't have anxiety about some hidden X factor in your app.

Congratulations

Ann Arbor is beautiful in June. Have you visited campus yet? We have similar numbers, and I just wanted to say awesome job on the acceptance, stay in touch!

Congrats!
