Additional info & updates

- St. Thomas: $18,000 merit scholarship. News via e-mail.

- Richmond: Call from Dean

- Only U of Miami and Georgia State required an "evaluation" of my transcript through WES. A costly hassle. In any casy, my GPA actually went UP!

- Mercer: thin envelope. No mention of $$

- LSU: thin envelope.

- USC: large envelope

- Stetson: large white envelope

- 1/31 Good day! Acceptances from both Kentucky (very pleased) and Penn State arrived in large envelopes. Handwritten note from Kentucky Dean concerning my PS. For those non-trads out there with so-so numbers: a strong PS can *definitely* make a difference. Now, if the Seahawks can win the show, my week will be complete!

- 2/10 McGeorge acceptance arrived in a large envelope, courtesy of a DHL courier. How's that for service! Hadn't contemplated them as a real contender, but now I'm interested in their National Security Law program. Does anyone have any info on this? Comments would be appreciated!

- 2/16 Notification via snail mail of $12,000 Dean's scholarship from McGeorge.

- 2/27 Nova acceptance via e-mail. Received a very small envelope from Ole Miss and my heart sank (the good news always comes in a big package). But no, it was an invitation to the open house for admitted students! Apparently, it arrived before my actual acceptance. Called the school and they confirmed it: In at Ole Miss!

- 3/3 In at Case! Good news received via e-mail. Package to follow...

- 3/14 E-mail from Arkansas with the good news. Only $9,000 tuition for out-of-staters? Sounds like a good deal.

- 3/20 Strange way to find out about my acceptance at FSU: an e-mail welcoming me to their admitted students day. Really? Without a letter of acceptance? Phoned and confirmed the good news: yep, in at FSU!

- 3/20 Supplemental entry...Received $9,000 scholarship from LSU. Unfortunately, I got the award *after* I'd already withdrawn. Maybe I shouldn't have pulled the trigger so quickly! The same mailbox trip also yielded a thin, foreboding envelope from Tennessee...They gunned me! Not even a waitlist! I was so devastated I couldn't even follow the paternity test results on Maury Pauvich...Ha! I'd actually forgotten about them until that letter. In any case, that officially ends my 2005/06 cycle. All told, I can't complain. The schools have really been great (minus the Volunteers, of course). Now the big question:

***Where the heck do I go?***

USC is a real good school; better than soem rankings -- certainly as good as UT,better than most on your list. Good luck.

Wow, I bet Jakarta was pretty cool. I may go to Japan. I just found out that I am granted an interview for the JET Program. I have heard that the social life can be a bit crazy too.

FSU
Tuesday, December 13 2005 at 07:00 PM

Yeah. Those bastards. I'm dying to get into UF or FSU. All 3 years there will be cheaper than one year at Stetson. Plus, they are ranked higher, obviously. I may have to hope for a transfer, which sucks because i'm sure a lot of people at Stetson are thinking the same thing. Probably less so than at St Thomas but the competition will still be rough. I stared at that damn FSU letter for about 10 minutes before I opened it to no avail. Maybe that changed it from a rejection, though. Oh well, I'm just gonna write my obligatory "you are my top choice" letter, add a few things they might not know about me and give them a second chance.

UoP

Congrats! Don't know much about the NSL Program, but from what I've heard from grads and faculty, its a great school. Best of luck from a fellow canuck!

St. Thomas
Monday, September 26 2005 at 08:00 PM

Hey, have you withdrawn from St. Thomas yet? I didn't see a W next to your profile, just curious. I've been getting rejected left and right. Well, email me sometime. Keep in touch. Thanks.

Thanks for the W
Monday, September 26 2005 at 08:00 PM

Hey, Thanks for the W. I guess I put Cooley as #1 on my list because I knew I could get in there. I organized the list by likelihood of acceptance. So far I'm on the money, I guess I should get a masters in Stats. So far I'm still waiting on Nova, but I think I'll get the Conditional program, which I've rule out. In the end it will have to be St. Thomas or Cooley. but we'll see. Keep in touch and thanks again.

Case/UoP

Yea, a bit curious about why I haven't heard from case...stil waiting. At this point, I'm debating between Hofstra and UoP still. Definitely not staying in Canada. Making the decision this weekend though...I'll let you know! Where are you going? Case?

FSU Hold

My letter also so said "hold status" like bluntmark's. They said they would let me know no latter than the end of May. Thanks for the info.

thank you

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. You had an excellent LSAT score. What a great performance record on acceptances, as well! Are you doing this as a second career later in life? Do you have a family? I have an 11 year old son...really hoping that he will do fine. We will have to leave his school and neighborhood to go to law school in a different city, but I think most children are pretty adaptable. My biggest concern right now is student loan debt for the duration of my legal education; however, God always comes through. PS: Did you take a prep course? I now wish that I had invested in that...

Congrats on FSU

Did you do anything in particular to get in off waitlist? How strongly are you considering FSU vs. your many other solid admits?

RE: FSU

Thanks for the kind words. I called and was informed that a decision had been made today and I kindly asked if they could tell me over the phone because their admit day is next friday and if I knew today that I could arrange the visit. On paper I like FSU the most (international law, business law, land use, and exposure to government, not to mention abroad program at Oxford). I want to be debt averse and have much to consider. Toledo gave me a full scholarship (contingent on 3.3 gpa), which is my hometown (I visit this weekend). I like Villanova a lot, which is only 20 min. from where I work (law building isn't so great and as of now I haven't got scholarship = $43,000 per year. FSU as long as I can transfer residency, which is being challenged in the courts but looks like it will be okay, I will only need to borrow $70,000. I would like to get back to the South as I did my undergrad at Emory and I think Florida's economy (baby boomers retiring) will offer much in the way of a legal career.

Hey man, Email me @ briggle@economy.com. I would like to discuss the condo situation. Yes, I am about to write an offer in the Midtown area although some data I have create some reservations. It'd be good to run our analysis/decision by one another.
