Additional info & updates

First year of college was horrible. Went to a big school in the Southwest...nearly flunked out due to apathy and an inability to cope with the notion of having a learning disability (diagnosed with slight LD during the later part of my senior year of HS).

Transferred to JC...built up confidence and explored new ways of mastering my disability. Transferred to a small private school in the bay area. Didn't PEAK till the last year of college when the As started rolling.

UPDATE 3/18/06 - IN at Gonzaga, Golden Gate, Whitter. Attending Gonzaga's open house April 1st...anyone gonna roll?

Debating whether to apply to Southwestern/California Western/UoP as their application deadlines haven't passed. Do you guys think its worth the shot?

3/28/06 - Ding from SCU. Standard thin white envelope. Boo.

4/2/06 - Sent in letter of continued interest last week to Chapman. They immediately sent back "sorry, u are still on the waitlist" letter via snail mail. Sheesh.

4/14 - dissed at usf, seattle. standard white envelope. i hate standard white envelopes. truly believe the law school admissions process is solely based on numbers...

4/21 - thin white envelope from Cal Western...what the hell i got rejec...what?! accepted! Who gives thin envelopes for acceptances? I guess Cal Western does...

Question: Im wanting to practice in CA, specifically the Bay Area, but anywhere in CA would suffice...would Gonzaga still be the smartest place to attend with regard to CA placements? Or am I better off with a 4th tier law CA lawschool like Cal Western or Chapman?

Ill be up there for their open house on the 1st. Want to get a sense of SPokane. So far, at least, that is where I will be, but still waiting on a few slow ass admin departments...

It's never too late if you don't mind spending the money and waiting for an answer. As long as the deadline hasn't past I say go for it! Good luck

Yeah, when I write it out, it helps to firm it all up in my mind. :) So, about you: well, judging from your scores + your posted extracurr. and academic backgrounds (use latter progress as a strength), I think applying at CalWestern at least is worth it--they've accepted many with scores like yours, and besides, as you can tell from my reveiws, it 's a great school. VERY personable, if you are looking for that sort of thing. You have great extracurrs. Good luck at Santa Clara! I think I'll prefer SoCal, but you have a great shot--and it seems to fit for you. Keep me informed! Best!

g'luck to you too

Thanks for the well wishes. I am counting on at least one adcomm out there who will see past the numbers. I'm sure you will find one too! Best, Holly

I think its too late even though thier deadlines have not officially passed. An admin person told me that by this time of year they pretty much have filled up their class and are waiting to begin to hear back from those they offered admission to. Technically there are still openings, but the competition for those remianing seats is very high. Anyway, if you dont mind going to Gonzaga, it outranks all those others (except in the quality of life department) Were you able to score some Google IPOs a couple years back when you were an assistant there? That should pay for a few years of law school if so!

thank you

Hey thanks. I wa so surprised. Check out Gonzaga...Spokane isn't a bad town and Gonzaga is underrated. People love it here in Washington. Our current governor went there!

I've got to add my support for Gonzaga. I love the school and Spokane is pretty cool too! I know a girl who went to law school at Gonzaga and LOVED it and all the undergrads that I know that go there love it too. I almost went there for UG, but changed my mind at the last minute and went to a nearby school instead.

Thanks for the comment

Yeh, I'll take the LSAT in June and apply for the midyear programs, if I don't get into a somewhat decent school. You got rejected from DePaul too? Join the crowd. Good luck with the rest, though!

thanks...and congrats!

hey, thanks for the post! and congratulations on the schools you've been accepted to! right now, i'm stuck between UC Davis and USF because Hastings REFUSES to let their applicants know in a timely manner (grr). kind of worried about job prospects out of USFlaw, as well as the international/human rights law programs at the schools, so any insight would be wonderful! keep it touch!

Sorry to hear about SCU

Same here, actually. But with your background, I'm surprised... They seem to be very, very concerned about numbers this time 'round, though... so.. screw em. Good luck with the rest of your apps! And hey, you've got GoldenGate in your backyard!

CalW

Hello. Sounds like CalW would be the better choice--if you want to work in SD. They are the #2 out of 3 in the city, so as long as the job market remains good, you should be employable. Everyone I've talked to has shared similar thoughts; there are some very loyal firms that reach out to CalW grads. But the problem, I suppose, is that the degree doesn't seem to reach much out of the area, and this--coupled with the weather, I'm sure--means many don't want to leave the area! Though according to stats, looks like quite a few do head to NV. $$ seems lower on avg. out of CalW than say, SW in LA--my other option right now; but SW is at the bottom of the heap in massive LA. So there's definite advantages to CalW. The more I play this law school game, the more I see the very name of a school carrying weight; Gonzaga is a good school therein. But consider the CA Bar stats that 6/20, or 30%, of 'Zaga grads passed the CA bar in July 05. CalW hovers around 60%. So yeah, if you want a position in SD, I think CalW is the way to go! Maybe I'll see you there! Email me if you want more specif. info or if I can help more, Best of luck!!
