Extra Curricular Information

Vice president, then president, of the undergraduate linguistics club (yes, there is such a thing at my school). Undergraduate research apprenticeship (the project director is one of my recommenders). Honors thesis (advisor is also one of my recommenders). Actor (and, once, vocal coach) in six shows at junior college before transferring to my degree-granting school. Treasurer of the drama club at junior college. Four years' full-time work experience before and during school.

Additional info & updates

Six pass/fail classes: three were not offered for letter grades (two were optional research-oriented classes), three were offered for letter grades (and I just chose not to take them for letter grades, for sundry reasons). Details in two paragraphs in my addendum.

Ugh... so disappointed in that LSAT score. I'll be applying to most (all?) schools now, let them all know that I'm retaking (I have to, since the applications say 'list all dates on which you took, or will take, the LSAT'), and let the chips fall where they may.

23 Oct.: E-mail from Chicago: they will hold my application until my December score is available in January, and I won't secure a place in the rolling admissions queue until then. :(

25 Oct.: E-mail from Cornell: if I want an Early Action decision based on my current LSAT and GPA (and everything else, of course), mention it in an addendum. Otherwise, they wouldn't consider me for Early Action since I'll be retaking the LSAT.

31 Oct.: Apps in to Cornell and Northwestern. No option on either LSAC or Cornell application websites to submit fee waiver info! And I took the time to go through Cornell's on-line app (as opposed to LSAC's, thinking there would be a fee waiver option, but there wasn't), and there wasn't anywhere to submit my addendum. Harumph. Northwestern's application should be good, though.

2 Nov.: Response from admissions office at Cornell -- apparently this sort of thing happens a lot, so they said to mail my fee waiver letter and addendum to them at their postal address, which I did.

14 Nov.: Complete at Cornell & Northwestern (by online status update check).

24 Nov.: Status at Cornell now 'early action deferred' (meaning my application wasn't complete on time). WTF?! It said 'complete' on the 14th (a day before their deadline for EA).

17 Dec.: William & Mary acceptance by e-mail. Formal written offer letter (and graduate fellowship offer letter) by Priority Mail.

29 Dec.: Deferral letter from Cornell -- now in with the regular applicant pool in February.

7 Jan.: Deferral letter from Northwestern (PDF download from their status check website; notified about the availability of the decision by e-mail) -- will hear from them again when they review deferred applicants in April-May(!).

Also 7 Jan.: UW acceptance by mail (small white envelope -- total fake-out) along with scholarship application.

18 Jan: Acceptance at W&L by e-mail.

Early Feb: Rejection at Michigan (small white envelope). Waitlist at Notre Dame (also small white envelope). Michigan was expected, ND less so -- they rank with UW, which is welcoming me with open arms.

20 Feb: Accepted at BU (phone call from the admissions office). First T20 admit! First discretionary admit (I think)! This stalls the expansion of my lust for UW: I prefer Seattle to Boston, but the career prospects might be better with a JD from BU. But UW pwns the PNW, and that's where I see myself settling down, so... shit. And I still have 10 schools to hear from.

The Need Access application sucks ass.

21 Feb: Rejection from Boalt (small white envelope). It's beginning to look a lot like UW...

03 Mar: Waitlist at Georgetown (small white envelope).

05 Mar: Accepted at USC, but no money.

19 Mar: USC even sent me a letter saying they wouldn't be giving me money. Suck it.

Good luck with every other school besides UW! You don't want to go there anyways...

Would you go to UW over BU and SC? I'm considering the same schools too, with Fordham thrown into the mix.

Because UW is the coolest dougmatic. Hope to see you there, I'll be the cool guy in the front row (provided I make it through the arduous secondary review process)

Congrats!
