Additional info & updates

2/4: I just got a letter stating that I've been wait listed at Northeastern. Bummer, because it's another top choice. I'm wondering how the wait list works???

2/17: Today I went to sit in on a class at the U of U. It was a really interesting class (Victims Rights), nice professor (former judge) and friendly students (2L/3Ls). Admissions told me that I would probably have to wait until mid-March to hear of a decision. I also got wait listed at U of San Francisco. I'll stay on the wait list and see how everything turns out. San Francisco would be a fun place to live and they seem to be rather selective for a T3, so I'm happy with a WL.

2/27: IN AT VERMONT!!! Am so excited about this...takes a load off my back to be in at a great environmental law program. I got an email saying congrats and my official letter is in the mail.

3/10: I got a letter today from Miami stating that my application has been reviewed and is being put on hold until late April. A decision cannot be made at this time. Does anyone know if this is the same as a waitlist? I'm a little confused. *Graph indicates wait listed, but it is actually a hold.*

3/18: Waitlisted at U of U. Major bummer...I'm staying on the wait list though and riding it out. Time to write another LOCI. Sigh.

3/26: Wait listed at William and Mary!!!!!!!! I was expecting a rejection based on the rest of my cycle, but I'm keeping a positive attitude and sending in a LOCI!

Impressions of VLS and W&M after visiting...

VLS: I was incredibly impressed with the environmental law faculty and various programs that they offer throughout the year. They also highly suggested completing the Masters of Environmental Law Policy during your first summer which I would definitely do if I was accepted. The school is very isolated so I would definitely recommend visiting before you go out to the school to make sure you like it. I think I would be very happy there and I know that I would receive an excellent education. However, as far as things to do....I'd definitely be ready to leave after 3 years to experience a city with more to offer then little South Royalton.

W&M: I loved loved loved the school and the area of Williamsburg. Colonial Williamsburg is quaint with lots of shops, a few bars, and places to eat. 10 min away there is a Target, and other more commercial strip malls etc. The students that I spoke with had nothing but wonderful things to say about their education, job prospects, student life etc. You can tell that it is a well-established institution and they pride themselves on their history. If I got off the WL I would most definitely attend over VLS simply because there is more to do and I would be happy there for 3 years-no doubt about it.

4/13: Officially Wait List Queen! Just opened my mail and have been placed on the WL at Suffolk and Miami. I really can't get over how much weight is placed on this stinkin' LSAT.

7/27: Got a call today from Dean Aguilar at U of Utah. I'M IN!! and not a day too soon....was going to leave for Vermont in two days. My how life throws us unexpected surprises. YAY!!!!

Sorry about your waitlist at Northeastern. We have a couple of the same schools, so I will keep an eye on your profile. Good luck with the rest of your cycle! PS: If you don't mind me asking, are you a URM?

In my opinion, waitlists are as good as denials. To be frank with you, I am unsure about their waitlist process.

Do you know any info about Northeastern? Did you apply to University of Utah School of Law? I applied there as well. We will stay in touch.

USF

Congrats on waitlist at USF. I was waitlisted last year in March. I applied in October. I decided to stay on the waitlist. In August (the day of orientation day), they denied me. The committee told me that I had a good chance of attending there.

Why do we have to wait until mid March for a decision at Utah? I would not mind attending U of U. Is this school pretty lsat concentrated? Is your first choice Northeastern? Where would you ultimately like to go to law school?

Not staying on the waitlist at U of SF. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!

good luck on USF

you have an excellent GPA. good luck on USF. it is one of my top choices. they are very selective for a school outside the top 100. i have yet to hear anything from them. i hope we can become classmates. you must be write a loci/addendum emphasizing that GPA, if you haven't already done so. GOOD LUCK

I really just tried to put as much of myself into my PS and Optional Essays. I talked about my motivation throughout UG and whatnot and tried to give them a sense of who I am. Best of luck to you!

Congrats on Vermont! I bet that first acceptance feels great! (I wouldn't know, though). Are you interested in environmental law?

Hi thanks for the congrats, and good luck to you! Once Utah sends me some info, I plan to withdraw, don't worry!

Do you think that you will be attending Vermont? I am staying on the waitlist at U of U. I am going to ride it out as well. Are you going to submit a deposit to Vermont? When is it due my friend?

WOW, congrats on the William & Mary waitlist! That's awesome! Hopefully you will be able to get in off of it! Good luck with the rest of your cycle!

No, I am pretty sure I will be attending BYU. Even if U of U and WM accepts me. Good luck with your cycle! I hope it turns out well for you!

Hey, I should not have been so blunt, but generally I prefer urban areas to rural areas. The school itself is pretty cool though and the students were very friendly to me. I wish you all the best!

Thanks!

Congrats to you as well. AU is prohibitively expensive. I am a fan of DC, but deep down I think I'm a Carolina boy. As of now, it's Wake for me unless UNC comes through with a last minute miracle.

Sure thing...I plan on going forward with a bunch of withdrawals this coming week. (To be honest, I haven't even filled out the W&M waitlist form.) Best of luck to you...W&M is truly gorgeous.

Thanks. Right now, it looks like I'm heading off to Villanova. I'm going to be withdrawing from Northeastern, so best of luck sliding in off of the WL there.

I really liked VLS, I think I'll be going there in the fall. Unless by some miracle I get into UofO then I'll have a tough decision to make. But most my other schools are reaches anyway. VLS will be a drastic change in setting for me though (from Berkeley)! What did you think?

Miami
Tuesday, February 17 2009 at 07:00 PM

The tour was extremely basic (and a little unorganized) and we were not given an opportunity to mingle with the faculty. The guy that gave us a tour is a 2L who spent most of the time waving at his buddies. Overall, I'm sure the quality of education one will receive at UM would be outstanding. They have deep alumni connections and are in a prime spot to provide tons of quality exposure to different areas of law. While I'm confident that I would be able to excel academically, I don't think that the environment as a whole is geared towards my dynamic. Nonetheless (and this may be a little selfish on my part) I'm still going to return that card and ask that they keep me on the waitlist. We have family and housing already set up down there so should UM offer me a break on tuition, it may make more logistical sense for me to go there. I hope this helps!!

Miami

Hi, I notice you are waitlisted at Miami. I was placed on hold until finally I got in and that is where I will attend. I visited the school from California and spoke to the admissions director after taking a campus tour. I then write a letter of continued interest two weeks later and submitted an additional personal statement. Lol basically I bombarded them with correspondence so they knew I was really interested. I suggest doing the same to greatly increase your chances of getting off the waitlist. Our numbers are nearly identical and I'm confident Miami will take you. Good luck with the twilight stage of your cycle.

Congrats!!!

Looks like we will be attending together this Fall.
