Extra Curricular Information

I'm guessing that I am an atypical prospective law student. I worked nearly 60 hours per week throughout my undergrad (took about 7 years). Couldn't do much in the way of EC activities, but am Chairman of the Conservation Commission in my town (served for many years prior),and am a member of The Watershed Advisory Committee as well. I also serve as a Union Steward for AFSCME.

Hoping an improved LSAT score, and other factors will culminate in an acceptance this cycle.

Additional info & updates

I'm giving another go this cycle. I've increased my LSAT score, worked out a new PS, and have made influential contacts at 2 schools that I'm applying to. With any luck, I'll make it! I'm a little nervous about how admissions judges reapplicants, but we'll see. If anyone knows how reapplicants are looked upon, please advise. Good luck to all!

3/9/09- Received my first acceptance today from New England School of Law! After coming up short in the 08 cycle, this feels great! Got a nice telephone call just before lunch congratulating me on my acceptance, and informing me that the letter was just mailed. It would be nice to see a little help with the $$.

3/11/09- Got a call from WNEC congratulating me on my acceptance! Had an uplifting conversation with the Assistant Dean of Admissions. Told her she made my day, and she added to it by offering a $10,000 per year Merit Scholarship. I did not expect that! All in all I had a good week. I hope the trend continues, but I know the dreaded rejections and waitlists are coming.

3/20/09- The wait on my 4 remaining apps is killing me. Seat deposit due dates are rapidly approaching and I'd like to be able to make a final decision before spending any more money.

3/20/09- Part 2! -Got a letter in the mail today from NESL informing me I qualify for a $7500 Merit Scholarship. A bright spot in an otherwise terrible week!

4/4/09- Still waiting on my 4 remaining apps. What's the deal?

4/9/09- Got the dreaded Northeastern rejection in the mail today. This was somewhat expected with a 152 lsat. As Northeastern is a pretty liberal school, I held out hope that my soft factors would carry me in, but alas this was not so. I'm ok with it.

4/10/09- After much deliberation, I've decided to withdraw from WNEC. They offered a great scholarship, but due to it's distance from me (I have to commute), I just don't think it fits right now.

4/10/09- Accepted Dean's Scholarship and sent my first seat deposit to New England Law Boston today. I'm still waiting out the last few apps, but it's doubtful I'll change my mind at this time, unless adcomms at Suffolk or BC are feeling generous! Now I can start worrying about getting the loans. I've never taken out a student loan before, and am paranoid that I won't get enough money.

4/22/09- Loans are all processed and I'm going. I got every loan I applied for. I even got a subsidized Stafford which shocked me. I've been told I make "too much money" to qualify for so many things in the past, I just assumed every penny would be Unsubsidized. I'm loaned out to the gills now:)

4/22/09- Received a call from the Director of Admissions at RWU today informing me that I've been accepted. Waiting on Scholarship info though. It would take a massive offer to get me to go there though.

4/30/09- B.C. rejection. Small envelope. This was expected due to my lsat score, but I held out hope.

5/4/09- $5k per year Scholarship from RWU. Small white envelope.

5/5/09- Suffolk rejection. Small envelope. A little surprised that it wasn't a waitlist, or evening division acceptance, but at this point it doesn't really matter. It is their loss for sure.

***All money is for 3 years.

The cycle has come to an end. Barring any major developments or increase in Scholarship from RWU, I will be attending New England Law at the end of the summer. I'm happy with the results. I went 3/6 this cycle with money from all 3 schools where I was accepted. To complain or whine about which schools didn't accept me would be ridiculous. The bottom line is I'll be 35 years old in about a month, got Scholarships, and am ACTUALLY GOING TO LAW SCHOOL!!!! Changing my career to something I expect to love, and will embrace wholeheartedly. Good luck to all who made it, and to those who didn't remember to keep the Faith, Providence will see you through (that... and some hardcore efforts on your part!). Good luck!!!

Good to see you on here. This cycle is taking a while! Applying so early just makes the wait that much more agonizing. G/L, I think you are going to get what you want, and more!

Most likely going to end up at NYLS unless one of the waitlists comes through. Still considering WNEC but I'm not sure if its the best fit for me given my personal considerations. What do you think of NESL? I've been hard pressed to find a lot of info about it and I haven't made it up there yet to visit. Best of luck with your decision.

Congrats

Thanks for the congrats, and the wonderful motivational words!!! It is hard doing this after we have all of these responsibilities, but I guess everything happens for a reason! I find that I am more determined than ever to come out on top! Good luck in the fall!

Thanks for letting me know about the merit scholarship information. I seem to be in the same boat as you. Still waiting to hear back from most of the schools, but seat deposits are due relatively soon. Good luck!

Congrats man ! NESL is a good school. Like you, I'm finally going to law school and I'm 43! I put it of years ago for great business opportunites and I'm finally going this time. It sounds like we both share the same enthusiasm. You're not alone in the non-traditional journey - everyone's path is different. If you ever want to talk, just drop me a note. Let the fun begin. Peace. Russ
