Additional info & updates

"Received" = the date the school send me an e-mail confirming receipt. In some cases there was no notification until "complete."

Harvard: 1/14: I never received a "complete" e-mail, but I received T. Stock's phone call e-mail, so I assume that means my file is complete. 1/16: T. Stock called. Let the nail biting begin. 1/19: "Complete" e-mail received. 1/26: Missed a call from 617 area code. Panicked, called voicemail, got Toby's message saying I'm in. Woohoo! 1/30: Received huge BOX with a big red binder.

Columbia: Big envelope received 1/25. Letter dated 1/23, postmarked 1/23. Hamilton Fellowship (full tuition x 3 years = ~$125k). Blue binder (admit handbook) received 1/30.

NYU: Manila envelope received 1/26 or 1/27. Postmarked 1/19: four days earlier than Columbia letter, but delivered later. (Odd?)

Boalt: I called for my decision and was dinged over the phone. Letter came 3 weeks later.

Stanford: Faye Deal called, 6/15!

Law school spies are everywhere. There are documented cases, for example, of U Texas matching applicants to their LSN profiles, and using the information against the applicants!

It's too late to change the name.
Sunday, November 06 2005 at 07:00 PM

Had I known better, I would have chosen differently. But given this name, it is even more important to hide the numbers.

dear annoyed

Why the sour words? My LSAT isn't false. It might be blurred a bit. I don't see why you're complaining, because you can't even see the graphs for this cycle yet. Rest assured that after I receive my decisions, I will post my exact numbers.

lol
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

don't pay attention to annoyed. If they really had a legitmate concern they should have left their real info and then you could have contacted them privatley!! Yeah, I know that 32 schools is alot, but I honestly have no idea where I will get in and $$ is an issue for me, so I am definetly spreading my net wide.

LSAT

Yeah I would just leave your LSAT posted. Anything 170+ is like 98th percentile, so it doesn't really make a difference.

now I'm curious...

"...using the information against the applicants?" In what way?

Law school spies
Sunday, November 06 2005 at 07:00 PM

In particular, there are two documented cases of spying by the University of Texas. 1: An admissions officer approached an admitted student at an event and identified him by name. Then the admissions officer proceeded to name all of the schools the student had been admitted to, and asked "What can we do to get you to come to UT?" A situation that was perhaps ultimately harmless but very awkward. 2: Texas admissions officers questioned one applicant's self-reported URM status because of ambiguities relating to his ancestry and cultural identity as an adopted child. Without mentioning anything to the applicant, UT admissions officers tracked him down on LSN and proceeded to call all of the other schools he had applied to in order to complain about him. Fortunately, most or all of the other schools sided with the applicant because he had explained his racial and cultural background in a detailed addendum. The applicant found out about the calls made by UT when one of the other schools advised him they had received such a call.

Correct me if I'm wrong ....
Thursday, December 29 2005 at 07:00 PM

But (1) You aren't applying to Texas?? (2) Situation #1 doesn't just seem harmless, but looks to me like a fine opportunity to get some extra $$$ thrown one's way?? (3) If Texas is looking here I sing the Eyes every night and think Vince Young and Earl Campbell are the two greatest football players ever and Darrell Royal was the greatest coach ever!!!

(1) UT isn't necessarily the only one doing spying; they're just the only ones who have been caught. (2) Or less money, if school X instead takes the approach "this applicant already got into school Y, which he ranked higher, so let's yield protect and reject him, or at least not waste our limited scholarship offers on him."

Geez, and you said MY lsn profile was intense...

snooping adcom
Thursday, November 17 2005 at 07:00 PM

The thing I really worry about is an adcom using our LSN profiles to give our yield-protecting denials. Good luck with the T. Stock interview. Mine was very low key--I'm sure you'll do great!

Congrats
Thursday, September 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

On Columbia . . . What a feat to receive a scholarship from them!!

congrats
Friday, September 02 2005 at 08:00 PM

on columbia and the hamilton! i'm sure there's a bunch of Tstock love waiting for you very soon as well... just out of curiosity, what factors do you think helped you get the hamilton? i'm sure what you deem "nothing extraordinary" for extracurriculars is probably spectacular for the rest of us...

Woo hoo!
Sunday, December 04 2005 at 07:00 PM

Congratulations on Harvard!

congrats

on harvard and columbia! (ps it was nice to *meet* you this week!) you deserve every acceptance you get :)

Re: The Hamilton
Sunday, November 06 2005 at 07:00 PM

My best guesses for things that stood out: 1. Essay, maybe. Addressed diversity. 2. LORs, probably. I never saw them, but the parts of my application that I saw/wrote were good but not sensational, so by process of elimination I think my LORs must have been strong. 3. Maybe LSAT, since Columbia seems to emphasize that.

Well...
Friday, January 13 2006 at 07:00 PM

Well, you're clearly exceptionally smart, but I also think you're crazy. Maybe only a little crazy, but still crazy, in that 'I keep guns in case the commies come' sort of way. Super congrats on Harvard! With your numbers I doubt you'll be turned away anywhere - best luck to you, you're already choosing from the best, so you know you can't make a wrong choice! Congrats!

Thanks for the supportive words
Sunday, November 06 2005 at 07:00 PM

but I fully expect to be dinged at S and Y.

looking for someplace to withdraw from?
Sunday, October 02 2005 at 08:00 PM

Withdraw from Georgetown and NYU. You seem to rank them both below Harvard and Columbia...so get rid of them, for starters. Focus on Harvard and think really, really hard about that full ride to Columbia. If NY is the place for you for three years, go there...I don't think you will ever have a problem getting a job to pay loans back, either way. But it is nice to have the option not to!

Congrats
Monday, December 19 2005 at 07:00 PM

and wow these people hating on you are annoying. Do they really need to sit around on LSN and bitch people out about not wanting to expose themselves! I changed my numbers too b/c of the same thing even tho it would be pretty easy to find us out, might as well not make it obvious. Good luck with the rest of your apps, and great job so far. With any luck, I'll see you at Cal!

heh

I think it's cool how you update your account every day or so in order to get more hits and make the Most Viewed list.

Yay to being a top user!

You can thank me later ; )

Congratulations
Monday, September 19 2005 at 08:00 PM

I'd like to congratulate you on your acceptance to the Top 50 LSN Users. But don't rest on your laurels: get out there and break the T14, the T5, and even the HYS barrier!

hamilton...
Thursday, February 09 2006 at 07:00 PM

hey...our numbers are really similar and i saw that you got the hamilton fellowship. congrats. i didn't get it, but would've loved to. my decision would be pretty much over now if that had happened. were there any other factors (besides numbers) that you think helped you get the hamilton offer?

I speak only the truth

I know your profile is rife with skepticism so I will allay your fears and explain, exactly, how I know these dates. First, I called all the schools that languished in finally sending me a confirmation of an exact completion date for my file. Second, in doing that, I took the necessary step and asked when, if at all, I would receive a decision. Third, the dates posted are dates that the adcomms at schools I called told me. Fourth, those are specific postmark dates that adcomms told me, given my completion date, that I should expect the committee to send out a final decision. Enjoy your final semester of college and congratulations on Harvard and the full ride to Columbia. With those decisions you should just go to Yale, if you are accepted.

Congrats
Sunday, January 08 2006 at 07:00 PM

on the great acceptances. You're clearly not going to choose Duke over some of those other options you've got -- please consider withdrawing to help out your fellow applicants!

trust me...
Sunday, November 06 2005 at 07:00 PM

i already withdrew from 2/5 of the schools i got into. i'm clearly not collecting acceptances just to sit on them. so i will w/draw from Duke as soon as I am sure that I am NOT going.

Boalt
Thursday, September 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

Still kind of shocked they rejected you.. but given your personal rankings, your on to bigger and better things. Best of luck!

Boalt
Friday, September 16 2005 at 08:00 PM

Sorry for you too, but considering your offers from Harvard and Columbia I'm guessing you won't lose any sleep :P. Congrats, I've lost respect for Berkeley after seeing how many they've rejected.

boalt
Thursday, September 29 2005 at 08:00 PM

your stats definitely prove my theory that boalt is a not-at-all-by-the-numbers kind of place...best of luck for whichever school you choose! plenty of good options.

Suspicion
Tuesday, March 21 2006 at 07:00 PM

It's not baseless. I've noticed on countless member profiles', contact from Law School Admissions staff in one way shape, or form. I noticed an interviewer from HLS, contact a prospective student regarding his interview. He was looking to help him, not hurt him though.

LS contacts
Sunday, November 06 2005 at 07:00 PM

oh, I'm 99.9% sure the messages from "Toby Stock" on LSN to set up interviews are fakes.

LS concacts
Sunday, November 06 2005 at 07:00 PM

So I'm more concerned about real, less benevolent use of LSN by LS adcomms.

Muahahaha
Monday, November 28 2005 at 07:00 PM

I'm about to overtake you in the LSN top 50. But if you put in a good word to T-murder at the big H I'll back off.

are you going to post your real numbers
Saturday, November 26 2005 at 07:00 PM

,,,now that the cycle is over? Also, are you a URM?

yale
Sunday, August 21 2005 at 08:00 PM

I can't believe yale rejected you. I guess you won't be sending them any alumni contributions. Why do you think they did that?? Maybe your GPA. They are all about 3.9 or higher, but i mean you go to yale already, they shoudl have put that into consideration.

Did you ever make a decision
Saturday, October 01 2005 at 08:00 PM

About Stanford? Are you going to join us in paradise or are you sticking with HLS?
