Additional info & updates

Accepted on 9/11 (2006), of all days. Small envelope, so phew... That was a little scary at first... but I'm psyched.

Will matriculate as a part-time day student (on the 4-year plan) beginning January 2007. May switch to P/T evening next year if my boss (me) ultimately needs me to. But for now, it's P/T day. Good luck to all applying. See you in class.

During latest LSAT (Dec 05) there was an irregularity in the testing room during the 1st section of the exam. Reported it to LSAC and requested my letter be put in my file. LSAC offered a free retake, or I could have cancelled it, but I'm far too busy to take it again, so I said 'score it' already... Score wasn't so great. 148... However, I made a 152 about 12 years ago (so I averaged them... wishful thinking). Still have the old score report, in case the school will consider it.

IMHO, the LSAT is well overdue for an overhaul, or better, the shredder. It only accounts for predicting 20% of L1 students' GPAs and has almost no correlation to bar passage rates. This tightwad-timed, monopoly-driven test has little, if anything to do with the daily work routine of attorneys... drawing up contracts, briefing cases, researching precedents, etc. The Ph.Ds and other zombie primates that write the LSAT have months and years to cook up their little games, reading selections and questions, then expect it to be the magic bullet when in fact it's measuring everything but what counts most in the legal profession--Intelligence, not speed. Give me a break.

And no, don't worry. I won't be the outspoken annoying non-trad L1 guy that you either love or hate in your Civ Pro class. Anonymity online is my only safeguard for voicing my vehement distaste for LSAC. Otherwise, I'm chill.

Peace, and good luck to all. Thanks for listening.

Are you going to apply to Charlotte School of Law? Your numbers are right in their target range. (I'm going in the fall, so I thought I'd ask.) FYI, the application is free if you do it online. Good luck with your apps!

Haha, I'm sure that if they do announce the location to us on Tuesday, then they'll make it public on Wednesday, like they did when they announce the dean. But, if they don't, I'll let you know. You're wise to get your ducks in a row before you begin. That is what I did also. God knows you will have enough on your mind when you start school, and it would be nice to not have to worry about your business as well. But, don't let the desire fizzle out--I think this is too big a dream to let go. By the way, have we met at any of the CSL meetings? You can email me directly, if you'd like. If you go to "view my profile" it should reveal my email address. Good luck! Joan
