Yeah, I applied right at the deadlines, too. (I couldn't afford to apply any sooner.) From what I heard from Fordham, it's a huge handicap this year (especially in NY, where absolutely everyone is applying). If you're interested: Fordham notifies by e-mail, but I think Columbia is only snail mail.

J - Just in case you come back to check this: The money from USF is renewable for the subsequent two years (thus full three) provided one receives a 3.0 (I think, although it might have been a 3.25). As for your second question, I attended a luncheon for scholarship recipients, and from what I could tell, most of us were interested in public interest of some kind and had at least a bit of experience to back that up. It didn't seem like coincidence, although I assume sufficient numbers are needed in order to be considered.
