Extra Curricular Information

I'm bored at work so I guess I'll do this now.

Nothing that impressive. I worked 20-35 hours a week every year of undergrad (except my first year, 15-20). Involved in a couple of ECs on campus that I loved, but no leadership positions. Was in a difficult program that involved a very competitive application process my second year. Studied abroad, and stayed in Europe to bartend for the summer after. I liked it so much I moved back after graduation to waitress/bartend/travel after I graduated in '04. Got a "real adult job" about 1 year ago, for a subsidiary of an antitrust law firm.

Additional info & updates

Fee waivers: Northwestern, Columbia, Penn and William and Mary

I wrote the "Why Penn" and "Why NWU" essays, but not the optional essay at GULC. Perhaps I should have.

UVa: Plain cream envelope, arrived 3/6/06.

3/10/06: Gtown status changed to Decision. Fingers crossed.

3/16/06: "Preferred Waitlist" at Gtown. Since my chances of getting into Penn, Boalt Hall, or Columbia are slim to nil, I thought it was going to come down to a decision between Gtown and UVa. But now.......?

3/17/06: In at William and Mary, big Priority Mail package, with a small (but v. much appreciated) scholarship offer for my first year.

3/21/06: Phone call from Karen Britton (sp?) at Tennessee congratulating me on the acceptance letter I have yet to receive. Second phone call later that day to tell me about the scholarship. Nicest person ever.

3/30/06: Email from A. Howard at Emory inviting me to an accepted students gathering for people in the DC area. Says packet should be in the mail. Crossing my fingers for $$.... More than that, it is just really nice to have one less "Pending" application!

4/7/06: Email from Northwestern - waitlist. Well, at least it's not a rejection. So glad to have finally gotten another decision, although I obviously wish it wasn't a waitlist. I have a feeling it's waitlists/rejections from here on in. :(

4/8/06: Letter from BC, Priority Waitlist. Damn, I hate to sound like an ass but I'm a tad bit surprised. This one hits right in the gut, as it proves my theory from above. Sigh. At least I'm excited about Virginia!

4/10/06: Rah! Stupid Boalt, couldn't you have just waitlisted me? I was really hoping to get through this process with no rejections. Ah well. Boalt was my #1 choice but at least I never fooled myself into thinking I could actually get in with my UGPA. :(

4/12/06: Withdrew from William and Mary. I really wanted to keep all school options open until I sent in my first deposit, but they emailed me reminding me a decision needed to be made by Friday, so I just went ahead and got it over with. I hope my spot helps someone on the waitlist!

Later that same day: Withdrew from Tennessee, after an email similar to W&M's.

Even later that same day: Came home to find a letter from Texas offering me a Dean's Scholarship. Crazy! Completely unexpected.

4/17/06: Sent in deposit to UVa. Barring a full-scholarship miracle from Columbia or Penn (ha ha), I am going to be part of the Virginia Law Class of 2009. Woo!

4/20/06: Oh, the best holiday ever! National High Five Day! www.nationalhighfiveday.com. Why, what did you think I meant?

Withdrew from Texas.

Reserve at COLUMBIA! Ok, I know it's not as good as an acceptance but I will take it, yes indeed. Now if I get in I just don't know what I'll do.

Oh Penn won't you please end my suffering soon?

and I have quite a bit of experience in various fields. I use to have more information about myself but people started to try to figure out who I was. So, I'm going to try to remain as annoymous as possible by not giving anymore details than I've already provided.

congrats

I got into Georgetown and Northwestern last year with scores very similar to yours... but didn't pull Charlottesville. So congrats and good luck with the rest of the field. The responses seem to be coming in much slower this year than last, hope UNC says something soon...

"Preferred" really does mean Preferred; there's a non-Preferred. But it's still a waitlist, of course. Good luck.

Haha, I am getting that from a lot of people. No worries, I'm pretty sure that's exactly what I'm going to do.
