Update March 2018: After getting waitlisted from GW and USC, and rejected from other grad school apps, I decided to apply to some more "safety" schools - although as an international student nothing is a safety. I got a lot of advice on my app and how to better tune it to US admissions committees. I then applied to Emory, Arizona, Colorado, Indiana and Wake Forest with the new application.

Emory scholarship came enclosed with acceptance email

UC Davis scholarship came via separate email the day after acceptance

Received Indiana and Arizona State within an hour of each other, scholarships enclosed. Absolutely blown away by both.

5th April - unsolicited scholarship increase from ASU

11th April - (partly) unsolicited scholarship increase from ASU

13th April - declined Colorado, UC Davis; withdrew from UCLA, GW and Wake Forest
