scholarships are the average award per year. My goal was to go to a good regional school while minimizing debt. I applied to schools with either affordable in-state tuition or with generous public interest scholarships. I was very impressed with FSU and Tulane. The collegial atmosphere at FSU and the beauty of the campus were a welcome surprise. The admissions office did a great job of making my family and me feel like we could be a part of the community. I liked Tulane because of the amazing city of New Orleans and the impressive academics and reputation of the law school in the city and region. Miami was surprisingly impressive. I don't know why they are not ranked higher. There are some very bright people down there doing great things. It's a great school. Maybe a little larger than it should be though. I also liked CU, but felt it wasn't a great fit for my family. It's a great school with a personable dean and really bright students. Denver was a draw because the city is wonderful, the new building is top-notch, the professors are a good mix of working professionals and academics and they are strong in the areas that interest me most (international and public interest law). Denver was ultimately the best fit. I hope this is helpful info when thinking about where to apply and how to minimize debt.

One more thing. If you get into a school and aren't pleased with their scholarship by all means ask them to increase it (courteously and professionally). I did this only with schools I was legitimately interested in. It worked at two of my top choices.
