Additional info & updates

8/22: Fee waivers are coming in, some requested, some through CRS. Asked for one from Duke and in addition to receiving one, got placed on their Priority Track list, which I didn't expect. At this point, Duke is threatening Cornell for number one choice.

9/16: More waivers, one to Michigan, one to UPenn. The Michigan one gives me more confidence about Duke, since they have the same LSAT numbers. Visited Cornell and Fordham. Really liked Cornell, thought Fordham was okay. Visiting Duke in a week.

9/25: Duke was incredible. What was already my favorite program just became my number-one choice.

9/30: BU offered fee waiver. Decided to make that the last safety school instead of BC. If I don't apply to Northwestern, which is looking very likely, I'll have 8 schools fee waived, four I'm paying for.

10/1: Sent the Duke Priority Track app out first, response will be in by next Friday 10/11, fingers crossed.

10/7: Northwestern sent a waiver a few days ago. So much for applying to an even 12 schools. I like everything about Northwestern except for the fact that they don't do the J.D./L.L.M., but they're such a great school I had to give it a shot. Just a few more apps to get out.

10/11: In at Duke!

10/14: Columbus Day group interview with Georgetown. The Dean of Admissions said now that we've done the interview, our answers will be coming "very shortly."

10/22 Interview on the phone with UVA, happened almost out of the blue.

10/23 In at UVA via phone call, at Georgetown via snail mail. Loving the early responses!

10/24 Interview with Northwestern. Should be getting the answer fairly soon.

10/29 Columbia went out. Now its just about getting the JD/MES application in for Penn.

11/1 Trick or treat? Got a merit-based waiver from U-Chicago last night. I have to give it a shot.

3/10 Really enjoyed Cornell accepted students weekend, wish Duke and UVA had given higher offers.

3/19 Northwestern comes out of nowhere with 30K a year. This changes everything.

3/23 This week I will report the Northwestern offer to Duke, Cornell and UVA. By the end of this week I think I will know where I'm going to school.

3/24 UVa will keep their offer at $45,000 but Cornell decided to match Northwestern's offer of $90,000.

4/4 Duke went up by $4,000. Not enough. Pretty sure I know where I'm going now but need to sleep on it for a few nights.

4/6 Took the weekend to think it over and I'm going with my original reaction, Cornell University Law School. This has been such a journey. I can't wait for the real trip to get started.

Good luck on Duke! Seems like that's your number one school.

Thanks

Appreciate it. Actually got a letter from them last night. Thinking it was "the" letter I got very nervous...until I opened it and found it was a thank you note for my visit a few weeks ago. They really make the extra effort to strike up a dialogue with applicants. That being said I wish it was the other letter.

Amazing cycle!!! Congratz and good luck! Do you feel like visiting the campuses was essential to choosing?

Yes I'd say it's important. Georgetown was one of the first schools we (fiance and I) visited and the atmosphere was a real turn-off. I felt the same way when I went to Fordham. On the other hand I loved Duke and Cornell. I'd say accepted students weekends are even more critical because that will more often than not allow you to sit in on a class, speak to students, explore housing options AND get the overall law school tour.

With them it was one of those "let us know if you wish to remain on the waitlist" kind of things and I let it lapse. I was already in at my top choices. Is that where you want to go?
