Additional info & updates

7/1/13:
Hey my name's E.J., I'm 24 years old (turning 25 this year). I'll be applying to law schools for the 2013-2014 application cycle. No preference for any of my list of schools, and I will likely attend whichever school accepts me. Considering my low LSAT score, I'm expecting only to be accepted into about less than half from my list of 20. As of this moment, my dream school would be Chicago or Berkeley. We'll see, I'll be crossing my fingers for the best possible outcome. Anyways, that's all for now, I will keep you all updated.

10/29/13:
Well, my October LSAT score came out yesterday and it was pretty much the same result as June. Pretty disappointing. I decided to send in an Early Decision application to UChicago. I'm hoping Berkeley informs me of a yes/no decision by April. On a side note, I'm becoming more and more comfortable with the thought of staying in Southern California (i.e. UCLA/USC) if given the option. Anyways, stay tuned everyone.

11/7/13:
I had my interview today for Northwestern. I'm really amazed by the alumni network and the level of professionalism/camaraderie within the Northwestern community. I would say that my experience definitely was a positive moment, and I will definitely take a trip out to Evanston should I receive the opportunity to.

12/20/13:
Accepted into USC! Haven't heard back yet from UCLA or Berkeley. But the Cali schools seem like my primary options. No word yet on scholarship $$$ from USC.

12/23/13:
Rejected from University of Chicago Early Decision. Looking back at where I was in the summer, it would've been nice to be at Chicago, but now not so much. Maybe that's the best thing for both parties.

1/16/14:
Waitlisted at Virginia! So you say there's a chance...

1/17/14:
Rejected by Harvard. No surprises there.

2/6/14:
Put on hold by Northwestern.

2/11/14:
Rejected by Penn. After I worked so hard on all those supplemental essays...

2/17/14:
Waitlisted at Duke. So you say there's another chance...

2/18/14:
Expected Stanford rejection via mail.

2/19/14:
Acceptance from Boston College! A very good option to have should I wish to practice in the New England region. One of my close friends currently lives in Boston as well.

2/24/14:
Just a short update. Financial aid will likely be the deciding factor for the law school that I attend (whether I stay in LA or leave Cali).

2/25/14:
Yale rejection (this was the most obvious to predict lol) but a Columbia waitlist/hold (this was a big surprise).

3/2/14:
Raised my LSAT (taken in February) one point from 163 to 164. Woot Woot! Every point counts.

3/12/14:
Accepted into Minnesota! Depending on their financial aid package (I've heard they've been very generous this cycle), they might strongly come into play here. I have some relatives in Minneapolis which would reduce cost of living. On a random note, I'm a cold weather type :P

3/21/14:
As of now, USC and Minnesota are my top two choices. I will elaborate upon this later at the end of my cycle. Financial aid is the largest factor in my upcoming decision to attend a school and these two schools have answered the call.

3/24/14: Rejected by UC Berkeley, my beloved alma mater. Looks like Golden Bears don't look after other Golden Bears :(

3/24/14: On the same day as the Berkeley rejection, I just got the call from BU. Still waiting on their financial aid package, but they could come into play here as well. It would be a great experience to live in Boston for 3 years.

3/27/14:
Accepted to Emory via email! I love Atlanta! Personal message from the Dean as well. Scholarship information to come later.

4/1/14:
Waitlisted at Washington in St. Louis. Bummer. They would've been a top candidate with a decent scholarship. I will be withdrawing. I've also decided to withdraw from BU and BC because of higher scholarship amounts available at other schools.

4/13/14:
Accepted via phone call into UCLA! ~$65K financial aid package.

4/16/14:
Waitlisted at NYU! What a pleasant surprise. Even if it's a very slim chance, I'm happy that I still have a shot. Also, USC just bumped their scholarship to $105K.

4/26/14:
Withdrawn from Emory and Minnesota.

4/29/14:
Deposited at UCLA. Withdrew from USC. This was a really tough choice. USC offered ~$20K cheaper overall COA, smaller class size, and deeper professional connections. But I went with my gut feeling.

5/9/14:
Put on reserve/waitlist at Cornell. Because it's so late in the admissions process, I withdrew my application.

5/14/14:
Put on waitlist at Vanderbilt. Because it's so late in the admissions process, I withdrew my application.

5/21/14:
Put on waitlist at Northwestern. Because it's so late in the admissions process, I withdrew my application.

5/23/14:
Withdrew from both Virginia and Duke respectively. This just leaves my Columbia and NYU waitlist outcomes TBD. As of now, I will be heading to UCLA Law.

Congratulations on USC! Sometimes things work out how they do for a reason. Now you won't have to battle the snow, lucky!

Thanks E.J!

Congrats on USC and I hope you snag a T14 as well. I am very acquainted with your numbers, as my first LSAT score was a 163 as well. Getting in to USC must have been a relief!

Sorry about Stanford, but you (and I) have been waitlisted at some pretty bomb places! Looks like its going to be a looong summer amiright?

LOL thanks for your comment!

Hi! Thanks for posting congratulations on my wall. Congrats to you on USC and BC! I hope you hear back from the other schools soon! I am in a tough boat of USC vs UCLA too. Have you submitted your FAFSA yet? Schools won't start sending offers till that has been submitted. Also, for UCLA specifically, I didn't get an offer until I informed them I couldn't apply for the need-based grants. So there is that - also UCLA says they open up their aid pool again later in the cycle when people withdraw applications and some money opens up. Both have really strong merits and pretty significant cons (at least according to my decision metric). I'm going to visit them shortly, so pretty excited to figure them out by the "feeling" I get! If I dislike both (which I doubt) definitely going to give UW or GW a chance at winning my affections <3
