They asked me for the same thing... then gave me half tuition PLUS 8,500 for my first year. I think they just want to see if you are serious.

We have similar numbers and applied to a few of the same schools. Good luck on your cycle! And from what I've heard, a Why MSU statement definitely isn't a bad thing. I didn't have to do one, but I know it's a pretty common thing.
