2/7: All applications complete

2/10: Accepted Tennessee Knoxville, scholarship info to be sent in the coming weeks.

2/14: Accepted Penn State, upwards of 90k scholarship.

2/17: Accepted University of Miami, scholarship info to be sent in coming weeks.

2/20: Accepted University of Kentucky, scholarship info in the mail. Same with Syracuse

2/21: Accepted Colorado Boulder, scholarship info in the mail. First top 40 or so acceptance

2/25: Accepted University of Minnesota. Extremely excited right now, first top 20 acceptance. Received call from dean of admissions.

2/26: Accepted Pepperdine. 60K Dean scholarship, great location.

2/27: Accepted Alabama. Call from the Dean of Admissions and received large scholarship. 2nd top 25 school this week!

2/28: Accepted via email to University of Georgia. Very surprised, especially since email said "you are invited to admitted students weekend" and that I was added to the Facebook group prior to actually getting an acceptance email. Very happy though love Athens.

2/28: received scholarship information from Minnesota, 25k a year renewable, extremely pleased with the $ total

2/28: accepted University of Maryland, scholarship info in the mail, great day.

3/3: accepted University of Wisconsin, scholarship info in the mail.

3/3: accepted University of Florida, scholarship info in the mail. Received scholarship info from Colorado: Full Tuition! Received scholarship info from Miami Fl: 75k

3/4: first non acceptance of the cycle: Georgetown. Seems to be an extremely difficult cycle for GULC, still somewhat disappointed though it was clearly a reach.

3/4: accepted Michigan State, very large scholarship, but lowly ranked compared to other acceptances

3/5: accepted Cardozo, close to full tuition scholarship

3/6: accepted University of Indiana with scholarship. Their deadline to commit for next year is absurdly soon (April 1) so I will be visiting next weekend.

3/6: now officially accepted to 3 top 25 (Minnesota, Alabama, Indiana) 4 top 30 (Georgia) and 8 top 42 (Wisconsin, Colorado, Maryland, Florida) schools. No idea where to go, if anybody knows anything specifically about any of the aforementioned schools and wouldn't mind messaging me, I would appreciate it immensely. I will be taking a slew or campus visits, so I can be a resource as well. Thank you

3/6: accepted North Carolina. Huge news for me as they're one of my top choices, and considered one of the most difficult public universities to get in to out of state in the country. Scholarship info in the mail

3/7: accepted Wake Forest with 90% tuition scholarship. Definite visit

3/7: accepted Washimgton & Lee, scholarship info in the mail

3/14: accepted American university, scholarship info in the mail.

3/17: received scholarship info from W&L, awarded larger scholarship from IU Bloomington

3/24: Notification scholarship increase pending from Alabama. Accepted to Iowa, scholarship in the mail, rejected by Berkley (is anybody surprised by that?) Going to be a big week

3/31: Accepted lat week by Emory, Villanova. Rejected today by Michigan, knew it was coming but still very unfortunate. For now it looks like the decision will come down to UNC (joint degree program with Masters at Duke) Emory, the Big 10 schools, and waiting on GW, Fordham, BC, BU, USC. Anybody have any suggestions?

4/2: $ increases from IU, Wisconsin, American and Alabama. Alabama is a very serious option, top 25 school, lowest out of state tuition in the top 40, and that scholarship is well over 80%

4/7: accepted with full tuition scholarship to Illinois. Really attractive offer, very surprised. Narrowing things down to final 5

4/9: accepted University of Arizona with full tuition scholarship, plus books and living stipend.

4/14: accepted Boston College, scholarship info in the mail.

4/21: Final 5: BC, UNC (with masters program at Duke) Emory. Haven't heard from: GW, BU, USC, Fordham, Wash U

4/30: Accepted BU, final 4 of BC, BU, Emory, USC.

5/7: A lot has changed. Georgia came through with essentially a full scholarship today (17.5k a year plus instate tuition which is about 18k total) Alabama raised my total scholarship to about 93k BU and BC both have put my scholarships under review for enhancement

5/12: Scholarship bumps from BC & BU, my decision is coming down to BU/BC/GW. But to be honest, BU is in the lead. I hope this profile can be a useful resource for future applicants

7/6: Indiana bump to 40k/yr, but far too late. Lease signed, headed to BU

Just wondering what people think from my profile should be my target/reach schools

Friday, January 10 2014 at 02:47 PM

the Law School Predictor site can be somewhat helpful with figuring out your odds of acceptance.

Tuesday, February 11 2014 at 04:27 PM

Yea but it leaves out some key factors: for instance by 3.3 at the top public university in the world is probably valued more than a 3.3 from for instance Michigan State, or Florida International etc. Also, resume, letters of rec, are completely omitted.

Your GPA is your GPA is your GPA. All else being equal, a law school will take a 3.5 from the University of Eastern Wyoming over a 3.3 from Cornell. That being said, a 3.3 isn't the end of the world in this cycle, especially since your LSAT is >90 percentile. If you have good LORs or a good PS you can possibly attain something in the 8-12 range.

I guess it depends on the school. my pre law advisor at u of m explained that most schools use a "grade inflation" calculator based on average lsat score. So, for instance, the average lsat score for my class at u of m is a 158, at our biggest instate rival MSU it is 149. Since almost all classes are curbed, an "average" grade of a B when the average "competition" is a 149, is not as valuable as an average grade when the competition is a 158.

Great cycle going so far ...IMO you should get in everywhere except Michigan, Berkeley, USC. You probably have a 25% chance at either of them...which is still good. I see you IN at Georgetown because of your Undergrad softs and how nicely it fits with them. They take lower GPAs and 165 keeps you in the ballgame. If your softs are any indication of what you want to do with your life, then this fall I should see you at Georgetown....even if you get in anywhere else. Good luck with the rest of your cycle.

Hey man, I just saw the Georgetown update. Make sure to hit them with an LOCI every 3-4 weeks. There are so many people that have been accepted that are going to Withdraw and head somewhere else... Good Luck! Oh and congrats on the $$ at Colorado. (Alabama too). These schools are ranked up there (especially Alabama nowadays) and you can def use that 120k and 64k for leverage at some of the higher schools you should be accepted to.

Yea it was a disappointment, but not totally unexpected obviously. Thank you for the advice, definitely not giving up hope on Georgetown, but I made a big mistake applying so late In the cycle. I was shocked by the $ amounts at Alabama, Minnesota and Colorado, necessitates a lot of traveling this month.

Hey man how it's been a long time ...see you still have some more decisions to make. I know you asked for some information a while ago on some of the schools in deciding... I did horrible on the LSAT but I'm very knowledgeable about how the law school game works and basically every school/market there is. You have some great offers in you have a very good LSAT score.... With the schools and you've gotten into in the ones you haven't it doesn't really look like you're going to be going to a top 14 school therefore what it really comes down to is the location you can see yourself in. For instance North Carolina I know is a great school however if you plan on going to North Carolina and suddenly want to move to California they don't really respect North Carolina because it's not their market it's not the region. You would be in the same pile of applicants that went to a tier 3/4 school in California. The top 14 name alone gets you in the door nationally instead of just regionally so what it really comes down to is the location you want to be in and also the scholarship money. However if you got a scholarship from a school that you don't really see yourself going to well just withdraw the application because there's no use of going to that school if you would just going be unhappy for the rest of your life. Yes it is not just a given fact that if someone goes to North Carolina loves it there and then wants to move to California because they love it there as well... yes they can be successful however it's up to that person to do that though and it's more difficult. If you really wanted to go to Georgetown or Michigan or Berkeley then if I were you because you have such a good score there is room for improvement evacuee you can already test well on it ...and I would just retake the LSAT in October and send the exact same applications in October. Even with a score of 165 you can get into those schools but you probably won't have those full ride scholarships of you apply early. But if you're want to live in North Carolina or go to wake forest or you know have your full ride at Colorado and you want to live in those states well you're ready to go why not go to the university that everyone local loves and pay nothing to go there. The local community will not care if you went to those still very good local schools or if you went to Georgetown all they're going to care about is how good you are your job and how nice you are really haha. Many people do not know before they go to law school where they want to live 5, 10, 15 years down the road so going to a top 14/15 school helps them with that choice because that name alone will enable them to move 12 years from now and still have good employment prospects... If your are working for someone else of course. Sorry for the really long comment or rant but you have a very bright future and I think you mainly need to figure out if you know where you want to live and work for the long term and how much debt you are fine with or if it even matters in the long run. Take care, good luck, the cycle isn't over!!

Thank you for the advice, you've been a great resource and help throughout this process. I am happy with my choices so I don't think a retake is in my future, going to ride a couple wait lists and make a final decision. Good luck at georgetown and congrats!
