Additional info & updates

I've been using this site to research schools for over a year. I'm excited to finally get into the meat of the application process. I will try to get this section updated as I take the LSAT, finish my PS, submit my apps, and hear back. Good luck to everyone else this cycle!

9/27
Finishing last minute studying for the October LSAT. I think the wait is going to kill me, but it'll be nice to have some free time back.

10/1
Took the LSAT. Almost arrived late do to a marathon that blocked my access to the testing center, but I made it there fine. Test seemed average. Don't really know what to expect. Kinda mad that it takes so long to get the score back, but oh well.

10/24
Finally got my LSAT score back. I got a 155. I had been getting a 153 on practice tests, so it was higher than expected. That being said, I plan on taking it again in December. Any score increase could bring more scholarship $.

10/26
Just got a fee waiver from the University of Richmond! Looks like a great school. I might just have to add it to the list.

12/ 8
Handed two professors the recommendation directions from LSAC along with stamped envelopes. Hopefully, they'll fill them out quickly.

1/3
My Professor sent in my first Recommendation to LSAC today. Hope it gets there soon.

1/9
First Recommendation finally posted on LSAC.

1/12
Second Recommendation has been sent to LSAC. Time to wait on it to be posted.

1/23
Been working on my PS all weekend. I need a break.

1/25
Took my 7th version of my PS to the writing Lab at school to get critiqued. Not too bad. Just need some minor fixes.

1/27
Finally Decided that the PS is done. Will be submitting a bunch of apps in the next couple of days. I'll post the results as they come.

2/6
Submitted five more apps today. Syracuse sent me an email describing the financial aid process and encouraging me to start now. Don't know if that says anything about my chances, but with the tuition at over 45k/yr, I'd better start filling out some of the paperwork.

2/9
Added a couple applications today. I applied to Charleston, Denver, Catholic and St. Mary's. Also, the status checkers tell me that I am in committee at Santa Clara and Tulsa.

2/10
Just added 3 more. Thats probably it. The last three were to Oklahoma, Richmond and SMU.

2/12
Got admitted to Cleveland State! Also got a $5/yr scholarship. Not too big, but tuition is crazy low to begin with. With the scholarship, tuition will only be $13K/yr!!!

2/17
Found out via the status checker that I was admitted to Ave Maria! What a great location. Also like their integration of faith and the law. But the great thing is the 30k/yr scholarship I'll be receiving. Thats amazing. I can wait to get the details in the mail.

2/22
Status Checker on St. Mary's website says that a decision has been made and that I will be notified via snail mail of the decision. Seems stupid to have a status checker that doesn't tell the actual decision. Oh well, should be good news.

Later today, I got a voice mail from the Dean of Students at University of Nebraska College of Law telling me I'm admitted! Pretty nice. Nebraska was a bit of a reach school at 33%. I can't wait to hear about any scholarships. This might be a contender. I used to live in Nebraska and I love Lincoln. Plus, its one of my wife's favorite choices.

2/23
I got an admit E-mail from Miami this morning! This makes me 4 for 4!!!

With my early success, even with schools that were listed as Weak Consider, I've decided to go ahead and submit my application to Notre Dame. It is my dream school. I had held up submitting my app because I thought it was too much of a reach, but what the heck. I have a fee waiver, so it'll only cost me $16 for LSAC to process the application. Here goes nothing.

During work I missed a phone call from the Dean of Admissions at Charleston School of Law. I'm admitted. They will be sending a letter tomorrow with information on scholarships.

2/27
Full Mail Box today! Got an amit letter from St. Mary's. Plus an $8K/year scholarship. But the renewal of the scholarship is only guaranteed if I am in the top 10% of the class. So, I don't know if it is even much of an option for me.

Then I got a couple large white envelops from Charleston Law. It contained my admit package, but not info on scholarships as of yet.

I had to go pick up a package from my apartment manager and was glad to see a huge white package from Syracuse. It contained my admit letter and a free t-shirt and bumper sticker. Pretty Cool! Its really close to my family, so its definitely in the running.

2/29
Got my Admit letter from Nebraska. Doesn't seem to be any scholarship $ there. Too bad. I really liked Lincoln, but I don't know if I like it for full tuition.

Got waitlisted from SUNY Buffalo. Noticed it on status check. This is disappointing because its so close to home. Oh well, its not exactly a rejection.

3/1
It is only 11am and I have already heard from two schools today. ADMIT at St. Thomas and WAITLISTED at Catholic. St. Thomas is only an option because it would mean that we wouldn't have to move. As for Catholic, I love DC, but I don't know about the cost of living.

3/9
Got admitted at Tulsa. Kinda figured I'd get in, but its still good news.

3/11
Tulsa's admit letter included a $14K/yr scholarship!!! Pretty nice, but I don't know if it'll be enough to sway me.

I'm getting a little anxious about hearing back from Syracuse on my aid package. I really love the school, but its so expensive. So, I sent off an e-mail to financial aid to see when they are going to be sending them out. Hope it'll be soon.

3/15
First news in a couple of days is being WAITLISTED at Texas Tech. Oh well, still haven't got my first rejection, so I can't complain.

3/16
Admitted at Seattle!!! Great news. I've got friends in the Northwest and I like everything I've heard about the school.

3/20
1st Denial. Got Dinged at Houston. Oh well. Thats how it goes. I do like Texas, but I still have SMU to hear back from.

Syracuse finally posted their award profile. Only $8K/year. Which pretty much eliminates it as a possibility. Tuition is just too high. That sucks, it was one of my favorites.

South Carolina's status check says: "Decision Letter Mailed". Don't know if thats a bad sign or not. I guess I'll find out in a couple days when the letter arrives in the mail.

Staying positive and looking forward to hearing back from the rest of the schools.

3/24
Waitlisted at South Carolina. That sucks, I was have good memories of living in Columbia. Oh well. These Waitlistings are pilling up, don't quite know what to make of that.

3/27
In at New Mexico via e-mail.

3/31
Since tomorrow is the deposit date for a lot of my schools, I've culled the list a bit. I've withdrawn from Syracuse, St. Mary's, St. Thomas, Texas Tech, Florida International, Catholic and Miami. Miami was a tough decision because its the highest rankings school to which I've been admitted. But the cost of living is too high and I'm not very interested in the school.

4/2
Lots of news today! Finally got my admit packet from Seattle. They're offering $9K/yr (renewable if I stay in top 25% of class) and an addition $3K for the first year. Not too bad.

Also, found out I got WAITLISTED at Richmond. I was convinced I'd get DENIED, so a waitlist isn't a bad result. I'm just trying to decide how long I can wait to hear back.

4/6
Waitlisted at Denver. Oh well...Wife and I have pretty much decided on Nebraska. We think we might be able to get Residency status. So, as long as I don't get into Notre Dame or Alabama, I'm going to be a Cornhusker next year!

4/12
DENIED at SMU. That sucks. I'm not doing too well in Texas this cycles. 2 deny, 1 waitlist and one acceptance (that I already withdrew from). Oh well, thats how it goes.

Notre Dame's status checker says DECISION MADE. It says that information is never sent via e-mail or the status checker. I'm pretty sure I got denied, but since it is my top choice, I'll hold hope until I get the letter in the mail.

4/14
DENIED at Notre Dame. I figured as much, but it still sucks to fin our for sure.

4/16
WAITLISTED at Mississippi. Kinda shocked, but oh well.

Hey when did your second personal statement take to post? My first one posted right away but I must have caught a rush with the second. I think it was sent on the 18th or 20th and it STILL hasn't posted. Can't see how that is normal and I had it resubmitted, but just out of curiosity... how long did yours take?

wallflower1987: I think you mean second recommendation. If so, it was sent on February 12th and was posted on LSAC on the 23rd. If you do mean personal statement, it should take any time to post. You just upload it every time you submit an application. You would just choose the other personal statement when applying. Good Luck on all your applications

We applied to many of the same schools. Good luck on your cycle.

I was wondering if you've removed yourself from some of the school lists yet. Or were you waiting longer to remove yourself for other reasons?

Monday, September 26 2011 at 08:00 PM

Midwestprincesse: I'm just waiting to here back from everyone before I make a decision. Thats unless a deposit date forces me to make a decision earlier.
