Hello all! The purpose of my profile is to record my law school application process and help any other students interested in applying for law school with similar numbers. I haven't seen many profiles that identify as Asian, so I would like to add to the diversity of this community. If you have any questions regarding my profile or any of my applications, please feel free to contact me :).
My belief is that a student can get into decent law schools with a high GPA and a low LSAT score. Standardized tests were never a strength for me, and you will see in some of my applications I will attach an Addendum that includes my previous SAT scores (1670/2400) and compares it to my strong academic performance in college that followed. I hope that this profile gives hope to those with a low LSAT score, but have an excellent academic background, personal statement, as well as extracurricular activities. The point is, standardized tests are not always a strong predictor of one's academic success. We'll see what schools believe in the same concept.
12/5/2009 - December LSAT taken.
12/28/2009 - Scores received: 151. Much better than my average in the 140's. For those of you who want advice on getting a higher score than your averages on practice tests: On the day of testing, go in excited and confident. You have no idea how much your state of mind can affect your success.
1/7/2010 - Saint Thomas (North Miami) application completed.
1/8/2010 - Florida Coastal and Stetson applications completed.
1/10/2010 - Florida International University, Northeastern, and South Texas applications completed.
1/11/2010 - Certification letters for Stetson, FIU, and Northeastern sent via snail mail.
- All applications were transmitted to the universities by LSAC, 8-10 working days for paper applications and almost immediately for PDF applications.
- 3:20 PM - Accepted at Florida Coastal! Within only a few hours of receiving my application, I received a glorious e-mail that I had been accepted at Florida Coastal with a generous Governor's Scholarship of $15,000. At least I have my safety.
1/12/2010 - William and Mary sent me an e-mail yesterday about study abroad programs at Keio University in Tokyo. While it was a generic e-mail for all International Relations majors, I intend to apply with my addendum attached. Their LSAT averages are extremely high and it may seem like I don't have a chance, but it doesn't hurt to try.
- William and Mary application sent with addendum. Fingers crossed!
2/19/2010 - Accepted at South Texas :) I wasn't really expecting to go there, plus they didn't give me a scholarship. But I will admit it's nice to have choices! I remember when I first applied for college, FIU was the only school that accepted me. I'm still loyal to my alma mater and all it has done for me!
2/25/2010 - Status update from Stetson...Ticker says the decision was mailed today and I should receive the letter within 4-6 days! We'll see...I've been having some good luck, and so far I'm 3 for 3! But I'm also expecting the worst with Stetson since my LSAT score isn't remarkable.
3/1/2010 - Accepted at Stetson!! I really wasn't expecting this...now I really have to make a tough decision :(
3/19/2010 - Rejected at William and Mary. I was expecting this, I applied to a variety of schools and this one was a longshot :) I'm not too upset though, it was worth a try ;)
3/22/2010 - Waitlisted at Northeastern. Not bad, it's better than a flat out "no" but I think I will stay on the list.
3/22/2010 - Accepted at Florida International University, my alma mater! Acceptance came in via e-mail, with a hardcopy letter to follow. This ends my application cycle :) Good luck to all of you! I will be withdrawing from schools as soon as I make my decision. FIU's seat deposit is due April 1st. I better make a choice soon.
Are you ready for 1L of a journey??? Absolutely. I am graduating this semester possibly with summa cum laude. My undergrad career has been full of wonderful experiences and personal growth, and I owe it all to FIU, my alma mater. I vow to try my hardest in law school, take advantage of everything that is put on my plate, and to become the best at whatever I may choose to become.
So did you decide to attend FIU?
