ADHD- LEARNING DISABLED SECTION

TAKING THE LSAT WITH ACCOMMODATIONS, IF YOU HAVE A LEARNING DISABILITY: DO IT!! AND DO IT NOW!!

LSAC requires anyone seeking extra time or accommodation for a LD to follow very specific guidelines. So don't even think about submitting a one page sob story to LSAC in order to get extra time, It just won't work. This is how I got the time and a half I so desperately needed:

1. You better be equipped with professional-grade documentation of your specific Learning Disability (they even have codes for each specific one) in ADDITION to a detailed explanation as to how your specific disability has impacted your learning experience.

2. Submit photocopies of actual standardized test results from back in the day when you were not being treated. I submitted 2 ACT scores from two different years that were of course horrible.

3. You better have proof to show that with accomodation you make marked improvement in whatever you undertake/have been undertaking.

I am a multi-LSAT test taker, having an EXTREMELY low, abysmal score (think Cooley material) followed by an exceptional one (think Cornell 25%tile ish) after receiving LSAT test accommodations.

Additional info & updates

So many people just put garbage/lies on their LSN profiles. This profile is being made available for the sole purpose of actually HELPING those applicants who are in the same/similar circumstances who are attempting to gauge where they mind end up.

Stay Tuned I'll update and add new stuff as I hear (not that there's a whole lotta new stuff left) but for now here are the raw decisions as they were handed down. And nope, I really haven't heard from UCLA yet.

Since I had absolutely no idea where I would end up because of my unique set of factors-as you can see I applied to quite a range of schools and did so as soon as I possibly could. Just a word on applying early if you're a borderline applicant, it doesn't help. No matter how much a school may say it gives you some sort of "edge," it doesn't. All they do is defer or waitlist you after its become clear that they have no rational reason for keeping your file for as long as they have without making a decision. And the "decision" is most likely going to be a hold, because they want to keep it for further review until they've seen it in light of all of the other applicants and start to get a feel for what their class could potentially end up looking like.

If you're a slam dunk applicant and apply early however, you'll get the decision you want. But if not, get used to waiting.

Thus far I've received decisions from everyone except for UCLA. And I think its going on about the 6 month mark for them. UCLA has a special committee that if you're lucky- will invite you to forward your file on for their review. I suspect A, this is why my application is taking so long with them and B, why I wasn't an auto-reject in the first place. So I'm definitely NOT complaining.

UC-Berkeley was another huge surprise. I was ultimately rejected-- but when I got their deferral email I was incredibly shocked.

I was rejected fairly quickly from those schools that claim to value diversity despite the numbers i.e. UMich, UChicago and Yale. But of course it's not like they are in the habit of accepting lower than 170+ scores anyway. So overall not very surprised.

SCHOOLS THAT PISSED ME OFF
__________________________________________________

The two results that did shock me were getting waitlisted at Maryland (which pissed me off so much I quickly withdrew), and getting outright rejected at Boston College.

UMaryland pissed me off so much, I actually called their office to ask them why when my numbers were so way above their medians did they waitlist me?! The woman on the phone was snooty and completely rude and informed me that it wasn't all about the numbers. Um okay... so what was it... too much diversity for ya?

And BC? Whatever I guess. I've been lurking around LSD some, I've learned that this is not a new or suprising thing for those with decent and above decent numbers anyway, so I felt a bit better.

I must say that the University of Washington admissions office probably pissed me off the most. They require a Dean's certification for every single solitary educational institution you graduated from. So it was a definite pain in the ass to send it to my undergrad, and my grad and make sure it got to the right people and then having to send and resend it to them because they lost it. Even personally emailing an admissions officer who acted all gung-ho about getting me to submit everything so she could admit me... and then after 3 months of this back and forth they finally let me know that they could review my application. 2 weeks later, big fat rejection.

I'm hoping University of Illinois and ND will come through later on in the cycle when they need to fill some spots. I was waitlisted at GW too but I just can't see myself in D.C... Not because I'm privy to anything there, but probably because I'm not at ALL... I've heard nothing and know nothing about that area of the U.S., so eh, let's see if I get off the waitlist... and then we'll talk about me venturing out of the midwest for once :) Speaking of ND what a freakin' drop in the 2008 USNEWS Law school rankings. Talk about finally getting found out about being overrated. Wow.

I wrote a follow-up letter for University of Illinois mostly because I think getting deferred is better than being waitlisted and so therefore I have not done the same for ND.

So why was I waitlisted at WashU and rejected from other lesser ranked schools? Because I'm from the Loo... and I wrote a Why WashU reflecting that. If I could pick one waitlist that I had the most possible chance of getting off of, WashU would be it. They have been known to go to their waitlist often since the majority of their early admits (the 170+ers) applied to WashU as a backup safety. And after they get into the Yale, Harvard and Berkeley's WashU is quickly taken out of the running. Even though it is highly ranked and other 170+ers might continue to consider it if given enough of a scholarship, no one wants to go to St. Louis and be stuck working there (as they are still struggling to make a national name for themselves). And if they do, getting money from UMich vs. getting money from WashU in St. Louis is a no-brainer that I fully agree with. Therefore, I'm fairly confident that someone like me, who doesn't mind going to school and working in St. Louis afterward, with strong ties to the local community- will get a spot when/if one should open up.

Schools that were hella cool were OSU and Depaul. Can't say enough. Kept in touch, gave me money and had people call me on the teley. Schools that should have been hella cool but were kinda slow w/communication and the offers were MSU and Indiana.
