Additional info & updates

I have a master's degree in political science and have worked in national politics and government, in various capacities, for 6-7 years. Unclear yet if that will make much of a difference.

12-20-12: In at Minnesota via phone!!! Follow up mail included $24K per year...

12-28-12: In at Brooklyn via status checker!!! Apparently some scholarship money will also come, to be sent in the mail...

1-8-13: In at Michigan via status checker!!! The work experience and extracurricular stuff must have really made a difference, because I wasn't too confident of getting in. Immediately rockets to the top of my list...

1-9-13: In at Cardozo via phone!!! Scholly info per year and depending on the maintenance of a 2.5 GPA...

1-23-13: Waitlisted by UVA. Given my Michigan acceptance, I'm not inclined to go there anyway, but it does seem to confirm that I'm outperforming my numbers...

2-4-13: In at Texas via phone!!! Official letter to come, but the admissions folks gave me a courtesy call. Not optimistic about scholarship money, but I'll wait and see...

2-12-13: Held at Northwestern. It's definitely a school I'm excited about, and to their credit they seem to move fast on waitlisted kids instead of leaving them hanging forever, so I'm going to be assertive about trying to get in in the second round...

2-13-13: Rejected at Cal-Berkeley. First flat-out rejection of this cycle, and I'm disappointed, but not shocked. Still have some great options...

2-20-13: Rejected at Columbia. Not at all surprised, although they did pull the douche move of giving me a fee waiver just so they could reject me and have their selectivity numbers go up...

2-25-13: In at UCLA!!! They accepted me into their Epstein Public Policy Program, which is really exciting. Need to learn more and think seriously about this school, but at the moment, it's a two-horse race between Michigan and UCLA pending further acceptances...

3-15-13: UCLA comes through with a very generous $120,000 scholarship (over three years). That plus a great LRAP for public interest makes them really, really intriguing...

3-20-13: After informing Michigan of UCLA's offer, UM comes back to me with $75,000 (again, over three years)! That confirms what I was already feeling -- Michigan's the choice! Despite some mild disappointments (rejected at NYU, Northwestern's long and annoying hold process), I'm really psyched about how my cycle went, and how it turned out.

My app was held at nwestern too! How were you notified about being waitlisted?

When did you hear about scholarship money from UT? I inquired about it and was told my GPA was below their standards, but our numbers are roughly the same.

I think it came with my admission packet, or at least very shortly thereafter.
