Additional info & updates

Obviously didn't apply myself during college. But I'm hoping that a few years of successful legal work experience and a one-shot LSAT result will give some splitter-friendly schools a reason to give me a shot. Strong softs and recs, for what it's worth.

I think my GPA makes me an interesting case study on just how splitter-friendly schools can be. Even if I get dinged from every school, I hope this will help future applicants!

UPDATE (May 10, 2013)
Currently deciding between $$$ at UCI (I'm a CA kid), or sticker at Northwestern. I'm still riding out the UVA waitlist, but I definitely feel lucky with some of the accepts I've gotten. Heck, I didn't think I'd get $$$ anywhere, or even a sniff from the T14 going in. A few notes for future super-splitters:

- Unlike our reverse-splitter comrades, we don't have the option of improving our GPA. I've been very happy with my solution, which is to get some successful work experience for at least a couple years, and then in your essays, addenda, and interviews, hammer home how you've developed discipline and self-accountability (otherwise, you would've just gotten fired!). In other words, while you can't wipe away your GPA, you hope to be judged as much as possible by your present accomplishments which highlight your growth.

- Apply early, and apply often! My one regret is that I didn't blanket the rest of the T7-14 and T15-30.

- Go out of your way to make yourself visible. I visited and pinged GWU and NU before receiving any decision, just on the off-chance they might remember that guy that visited when they evaluate the pile of apps. We already have a handicap with our GPA, so any little way you can scrap your way closer to the top of the pile (and the attention of the adcomms) is advisable.

- When sacrificing animals to the adcomms in an attempt to curry favor, stay away from fire alarms and cops.

UPDATE (July 17, 2013)
Got a full-ride re-offer from WUSTL, managed to squeeze $10k/year from Northwestern out of that. Then got pulled off the GULC waitlist with $20k/yr(!), which I then used to get my NU scholly to $15k/yr. The moral of the story is, for ultra-splitters, the game isn't over when the first wave of deposits are due. Brace yourself for a long summer.

But in the end, looking back on it, I could not be happier with how my cycle went. I came in hoping to squeeze into a T1, but am now going to NU with some money to boot. I got into Georgetown as well, and got big money/full rides from top 20 schools like WUSTL and UMN. Truly thankful to be that lucky.

Cusenation commented on December 4, 2012 about my chances. Pretty much nailed it. Somebody get that user some lotto tickets.

good luck, and congrats at the acceptance to Washington @ St. Louis. I'm a pretty close split to yours (170 /2.77) and managed a GWU acceptance.

Congrats!

I have almost identical stats, with virtually identical results. The lone exception (northwestern) being pretty huge. It sounds like your years working after college paid off. Hopefully Johann will show me some love and make me the next pope (that's what the picture is in the tweets, right?)
